It is a pain to check the sight bowl after every fill up and a lot of owners do not check it as frequently as we should, myself included. I do by my fuel from locations that pump large quantities of fuel and stretch out the intervals some between fill ups. We travel in some nasty weather in the Northeast, so getting under the coach in the snow and cold is not relay on my to do list all the time. Must admit that I have had some water in the sight bowl over the last 10 plus years though. Rich.

Gary, Along with the connections at the transfer relay you might want to check all the shore power wiring connections from the shore power cable to the relay connections. There could be a loose or corroded connection anywhere in the wiring. Hot sides, neutral or ground. The fact that the relay locks and does not chatter when the generator is running leads me to think its worth checking. Rich.

Windshield Separating From Its Rubber Seal
dickandlois replied to goncolgo's topic in General Discussion
This issue turns up no a number of coaches. I have had the same problem with mine. The way I have mine repaired is to have the windshield removed and replaced. (R an R) The cost out of pocket for me has been $100.00 to remove and replace the windshield using the same seal. This is on a coach with a split windshield. The seals can dry out over time and become stiff. Some times the opening is a little over sized and the seals will slowly separate from the fiberglass as the coach flexes. A good glass shop should be able to give you a good idea, on how to fix the opening. Rich. -
Michael, You mentioned that the refrigerator works when directly wired, bypassing the safety circuit. Have you demonstrated this to the Service center? Could you get some help from an electrician with the proper tools to read the current drawn by the refrigerator when its operating. That information can be compared to the maximum current allowed by the sensor that is failing. Second- what is the specified current requirement listed in the specifications for the model your have. This is where I would start to find an answer to the problem. Rich.

Gary, I sent you some information in a (PM) Private Message that should show up in your personal email. I hope that it helps in your quest for a solution to the problem. Keep me in the loop and pass along your findings. This information leads to a sight that covers the HWH system that might be real close to the system your working on. Rich.- 14 replies

I'm A Newbie-- Just Bought Our First Winnebago
dickandlois replied to DjDonnyD's topic in Buying an RV
With family in FL. they could get you the required paper work by mail unless their laws are different. The different requirements sometimes make things more interesting to say the least. Should the state have temporary tags or transporter tags you should be able to work out a solution. You will need to meet all there requirements regarding insurance. There will be items you need to cover to get the coach ready for a long road trip. Tires, Brakes, Cooling system, Oil and filters, and fuel system are just a few. Rich.- 2 replies

Spartan Chassis, 2005 Newmar Kountry Star Sway Issue
dickandlois replied to BSonthego's topic in Chassis
Brett mentioned that having the Vin number information would be helpful and the Model number. Ben have you checked to see if your coach is listed on this recall? 2005 NEWMAR KOUNTRY STAR RECALL - #06V280000 RECALL FOR STEERING CERTAIN CHASSIS MAY HAVE BEEN EQUIPPED WITH INCORRECT STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFTS. THE SPLINE CAN STRIP WHILE THE STEERING WHEEL IS BEING TURNED. 2005 NEWMAR KOUNTRY STAR RECALL - #05V263000 RECALL FOR SERVICE BRAKES, AIR : SUPPLY ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES EQUIPPED WITH AMETEK NGI GAUGES, THE AIR GAUGES ARE NOT PROPERLY CALIBRATED AND THE LOW AIR WARNING INDICATOR MAY BE ACTIVATED WHEN ACTUAL AIR RESERVOIR PRESSURE READINGS ARE BELOW THE FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD REQUIRED RANGE OF 60 TO 65PSI. 2005 NEWMAR KOUNTRY STAR RECALL - #04V403000 RECALL FOR SEAT BELTS : FRONT : ANCHORAGE ON CERTAIN MOTOR HOMES, DURING MANUFACTURING, THE SEAT BELT SHOULDER HARNESS ATTACHMENT LOCATION FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT WAS NOT PROPERLY WELDED OR ATTACHED. Marvin, interesting challenge. Could you give me the length of the gap between the wash / nut combination and the frame Rail. Think you might be able to grip the exposed bolt with a pair of vice grips to hold the bolt so you could use a cutoff wheel and a Dremel Tool to cut two slots in the nut and washer so you could then remove the nut in 2 half's. Being very careful so to limit damage to the bolt threads. Then with the proper sized die cut new threads on the exposed bolt to the best of ones ability. I have used a 6 point deep well socket to turn a die down on the threads, then place washers on the section you can not thread. One might be able to use some JB Weld to hold (lock) the washers to the bolt keep the threads clean, then tighten the nut. if it tightens down enough to cause the hidden bolt head to grip the back side of the frame rail, one should be able to torque it down enough to keep it tight. This is a slow process, but it works. To get enough room to work, removing the tire might be necessary. This requires the coach to be parked on a level surface, with a good concrete base and 2 good Jake Stands under the axle. 6 ton truck stands at least. Check the front axle wight on your coach and use bigger stands if needed. The tires are heavy to remove and handle !!!! Think ahead on how your going to approach the problem, walk away and then look and think some more. Only going to get one shot at getting a good fix on this one from the information you have posted. Rich.

It sounds like a seal issue, but could you tell us where the leak is located. Fuel filter, fuel line, fuel pump area? Thinking the leak is in / or on the low pressure side of the fuel system if it seals up when the engine warms up. The other possibility is a leak in the fuel return path. Rich.

Replacing Norcold 1210 with Residential Refrigerator
dickandlois replied to PrairieDog1951's topic in Systems and Appliances
Elmer, Think you might have a raised pedestal that the fridge sets on, this allows space for the water and heat runs. One can remove the leveling pads if the floor is level in relation to the floor. You the can place screws through the holes used for the levelers to fasten it to the top of the pedestal. Tight spot so a right angle Philips screw driver is required (Ratcheting screw driver) works the best. Place washers under the screw heads to cover the hole and allow you to use a smaller screw size. Too long of a screw and it can cause damage to the items under the pedestal. You can use Velcro loop(s) around the handles to keep the doors closed should things shift and push on the doors. Some bottom freezers have a lock, requiring you to lift up and pull out to open it. How does yours work? You might want to do some changes to the AC wiring to the outlet for the fridge so it can run off the inverter. This would require information on just how your coach circuits are wired. Rich. -
Hi Mike, We have used GMAC through Good Sams over the last 20 years and have been very pleased with there service and price. They use a sliding scale for mileage and then where you home address is located. We have used it 3 times over that period of 20 years. The price has gone up but only by about 20.00 Dollars. must also say a good driving record and good credit score helps. We have a higher deductible so if we have a clam, and even if its a little over the deductible we pay out of pocket. Rich.

Dave, Think this link will get to the manual for your engine information. Timing info. starts on page 37. http://www.cumminson...ls/927-0754.pdf This link is to the Generator section Manual. http://www.cumminsonan.com/www/pdf/manuals/900-0196.pdf They are about as old as we are !!! Good luck. Rich.

Bounder, Welcome !! By wire do you mean the Vacuum line? When timing the engine from the bottom marker ---3. Motor homes chassis with the timing pointer on the bottom, Bottom left side of engine looking from the front. This procedure works better with two people to set the distributor. This requires using the #5 or #8 plug wire to trigger the time light. Check the timing mark first before setting timing, using both plugs to check the timing before proceeding. Plug numbering Left (Drivers side) 1,3,5 and 7, Right side 2,4,6, and 8 The # 1 plug wire is used to set timing when using the top marker reference. Taken from my post-- 454 Engine Ignition Information-- Expanded Hope this helps. Rich.

While doing a little web surfing I stumbled into this little gem and just had to pass the information on. This is a link to a Catalog that list a number of parts used in Fleetwood, National and Tiffin Motor Coaches. They are listed by Make,Model and Year. Link. http://www.rometruckparts.com/catalogs/DENSO%20RV%202012.pdf Hope you find it useful! Rich.

Dwesr, Contact the chassis manufacturer and see if you can get the chassis wiring for the cruse control circuit. It is installed by them. Most often there is an interface circuit(board) mounted under the dash, (drivers side) that connects the the OFF, ON and SET buttons from the steering wheel controls to the Engine ECM. Quite often the problem is a broken wire or switch in the Smart Stick Switch(s) or Steering Wheel Mounted Switch connection(s) and the interface board mentioned above. Rich.

Norcold Problems Starting On Propane
dickandlois replied to QuiGonJohn's topic in Systems and Appliances
Patsy, The burner should light to heat the ammonia tank. Once it is active and the set temperature inside the refrigerator is reached, the flame should go out and relight when the thermostat calls for cooling. Have you cleaned all the board(s) contacts? use an eraser to clean the contacts. The other item(s) that comes to mind is the temperature control board or a thermocouple issue. Edit 11:18 PM Your model has a Thermocouple interrupter on the gas valve, is should turn off the gas supply when the set temperature is reached inside the refrigerator. This item my be the problem, the thermocouple inside the fridge directly controls this valve !!!! I will review some of my notes to see what I'm overlooking. Rich. -
If There is an aluminum rail or beam above the fender well and the well is steel, you need to use stainless steel bolts. Try to isolate the two dissembler materials as they react with each other and this cases an electrolysis reaction that degrades the bolts and the material. Over time this degrades them both and salt accelerates the reaction. Always wondered why coach manufactures did not add a PVC barrier between them and use stainless steel bolts and rivets. AH yes that thing called add on cost to do it. !!! Rich.

Larry, Regarding the carpet, If you are concerned about stains or mildew there is a trick you can try. With the carpet damp thoroughly rub in some Borax (The Plain / Pure Kind) into the area, let it dry and vacuum it. Finish off with a vinegar / water solution. Think its 1/4cup to 10 /12 cups. Not real strong. Repeat the treatment if necessary to remove the stain. This will also remove the mildew order from the rugs.. Borax also is good to clear flees from the rug if you have pets, just spread some around and let it set for an hr or so. You Just need to vacuum the rugs Real Good. it will bother the pets nose if not cleaned up well and can get in there eyes. Rich.
