  1. I have heard about a method to install a Smart Charger on my coach. I have a receptacle in the engine compartment for the heater. It only has power when on shore power or generator. A friend told me he had known someone that had connected a Smart Charger to his chassis batteries and plugged it into the outlet. He said that each time he was on shore power the Smart Charger would maintain the batteries levels and not over charge them. I am going to give it a try and will let you know the results. Hope this isn't one of those, "A friend of mines third cousin, twice remove on his step father's brothers side, best friend told that it was rumored that it be so." Herman
  2. Joe, if Strats had Coach Net they might tow it to you. Would that work? Herman
  3. Thanks to all. Now let get this topic back on course, ARE YOU A VETERAN? Thank each and everyone of you and God Bless America! Herman
  4. I agree that the OP was at fault and Not AMCO. Sorry rggarrott, you seem to be a smart fellow, you have a computer and possibly a smart phone with a calendar. If I have something special I need to remember it goes on the calendar and I receive a reminder. Plus I have a wife that is on to of each and every bill we have. Might I suggest that since you are on the road for extended periods that you have important bill put on auto pay. We have many of our bills on auto pay and paperless monthly statements. I get emails of bills due plus drafts that have been drawn for those on auto pay. It sounds like AMCO went ahead and covered the claim, am I wrong? Herman
  5. Gil, Your quite welcome. I enjoy FMCA and am glad to help where ever I can. Herman
  6. There are two solenoids, one that controls the instrument and one that control the starting. If the solenoid for the starting function is bad the engine will not start however the instruments will function. If the solenoid that controls the instruments goes out all contact to the instrument will be lost but the engine will still start and run. On my coach the two solenoids can be found in the electrical panel in front of the front tire on the drivers side. A volt meter or a test light can be used to check out both. On each solenoid there should be two large lugs and one or two small lugs. With the key turned on test for power on both large lugs. You should have power to both, I using a volt meter you should have 12 volts + on each lug. If not then check for for power to the small lugs. If two small lugs you should have a Black and a White wire. On my coach the white is ground and the black should be 12 volt power. If only one small lug then it will be power and the solenoids case will be its ground. If you have 12 vols to one of the small lugs and no power to one side of the large lugs then you have a bad solenoid and it should be replaced. When purchasing a replacement solenoid be sure that you get a "12 volt Continuous Solenoid". That is a must. Hope I have explained well enough how to test the solenoids. Herman
  7. Five, I understand what you say about ANC running out of space. My suggestion should be to cut out Foreign Aid to our enemies and purchase as much land around the ANC so our deserving veterans reverie the proper respect they were promised. Now back off my soap box. Herman
  8. Having a battery with low water will expose the plates to the atmosphere and cause the area exposed to dry out and flake off. Those flakes will, over time, build up and short out the plates. This was called in the past a "Sulfaited Battery". Until really bad, the battery will jump start and start all day long but left over night the battery will discharge. A Sulfaited Battery is gone and should be replaced. Herman
  9. Pop, A call to AH and ask about having a tech looking at your unit. It being in a 2016 unit, it should be still under warranty and they would be the ones to correct any issues if the unit is the problem or it is Thor. I can never hurts to explore each and every avenue to resolve your issue. It appears that Thor could care less about bad advertising and customer relations, where Aqua Hot might care enough to help satisfy a customer for Customer Relations and their reputation. Herman
  10. Mongo says, Engine with no DEF "Good Thing", Engine with DEF Not so good Thing. I would never argue with Mongo. God bless the EPA. Herman
  11. Once a month I check and top off all 4 6 volt batteries in the coach and all six batteries in the Golf Cart. I have a pump up sprayer filled with distilled water. I took a pump up sprayer and cut off the spray head. I purchase my distilled water at Dollar General, some time about $0.50 per gallon but most of the time right at $1.00. Herman
  12. If you have a need to know just drive today down US Hwy 287 from Amarillo, Texas to Wichita Falls, Texas, Going east bound with a 25+ south wind. Great learning experience. Steering wheel at 1:00 o'clock for many and many miles. Herman
  13. Could low transmission fluid cause the same warning? Herman
  14. Micheal, For some reason there are a lot more RV parks in the Hill Country than most other parts of the state that can handle larger groups of Motor Homes. I have heard of some chapters holding Rallies in Texarkana, AR. The Four States Fair Grounds has a circle that has 64 full hook ups. 32 30 amp and 32 50 amps. There has been changes in management so a call to Brent would be helpful. 870-773-2941 Herman
  15. One problem I found in our coach was the vents. The vents were not AQs fault but the mfg. In the rear the vents really put out the air when on. In the front we have three vents and the air came out really strong out of the one under the front consul, but the other two barely put out any air at all. What I found was that those two the AQ registers and the vents were not aligned properly. The fans were blowing but the air was diverted away by misalignment. I made some modified duct work to route the air out. Those two now produce better air flow but still not as well as the other. Another thing I found was the registers needed a good cleaning. Got-it-done. Toasty warm here in Amarillo with the outside temp at 48 degrees. One of our warmest mornings in some time. Herman
  16. I believe the Maxxforce engine is the same one used in the International Trucks. International Trucks are made and sold most everyday all over the country. I have two friends that both have Monaco's Made by Navistar with Maxxforce engines and each have said they find no issues with the engines. One has had many problems with their coach while the other has had very few. I personally love the Monaco product but would not consider purchasing one made after 2008. Herman
  17. Pops, My suggestion would be to call Aqua Hot and find a tech in your area. Thor, although it seems they have some good techs, they don't know a lot about the operations of the AQ. The AQ is a great heating system but it need tinder loving care all the time. The system work the same as the old hot water and radiator systems in older homes and buildings. Each zone has its own hot water pump. When there is a demand for heat and the unit haven't been turned on for several hours or days, it first must heat the water. The pumps and the fans will come on but will not be warm until the water get hot. So for a while you will think the unit isn't operation up to snuff. The unit must be exercise ever month and serviced once a year. One other thing, the unit has a over flow tank. The tank has a cold and hot level mark. The tank must be up to the cold line when cool and not in use. When hot it should rise to the Hot level. If low on coolant the pumps will work and the fans will blow but it will not heat properly. I have the worlds best tech in Lloyd DeGerald that service my unit each year. Herman
  18. Micheal, As Carl mentioned, Canton Civic Center. They have enough full hookups for a Six-State rally minus the Seminar rooms. Lone Star has held many rallies there. However the last time I checked they had leased out the concession room (kitchen) there and it could not be used. One thing folks don't know about Canton is that although the city does own the Civic Center and a lot of the RV parking, most of the buildings and sheds are owned by Carl Lewis and not the city. I have heard that there is the Waco Fair grounds (I believe that is what it is called) in Waco. I understand they have spaces and at least one meeting room. Also there is Coffee Creek in Santos. It is just off I-20 1/4 mile north on Hwy 271. (Weatherford/Mineral Wells area) Lots of hook ups and 2 meeting rooms with kitchens. Call because I understand they have been sold and have new management. It is wonderful that the RRR's continue to grow, as they have. However that begins to limit where to have a Rally. If you find any other locations let us know. Herman
  19. Carl, Thanks for the suggestions. Although sites with hookups is a very good thing there are a numbers of other things that need to be considered. We need space to seat 700 to 800 people for entertainment, space for 60 to 80 Vendors, 7 to 10 spaces for seminars plus space to feed breakfast and hold the ice cream social with the Chapter Fair. Also the cost per site per day is very important. If a location meet these requirements we would be more than happy to have the Site Selection Committee go and make a visit. One of the goals of our current Executive Board is to get the Rally cost down. Thanks for your insights. Herman Mullins SCA SRA Southern Region Vice President
  20. Bill, I am so sorry to hear of your mother's passing. God rest her soul as she joins you father and the rest of her family. Thanks for all the service your family has given. Sincerely, Herman
  21. Steve, Welcome to the Forum. Thank you for your service. And congratulations on coming out of Nam safely. That was a ruff place for chopper pilots. Be sure to make time for the Meet & Greet Meeting we have at each National Convention. It is a chance to put a face to the folks you have heard from here on the Forum. Day, Time and Place will be posted here as we get closer to the Convention. Herman
  22. Tom & Colleen, Welcome to the Forum. When going to any national rally always stay the night before you are scheduled to go in at a RV park. You can empty your holding tanks and fill up your water tank. Also be sure to have full propane and fuel. At a FMCA National you have an opportunity to make new and wonderful freinds, shop in the Vendor and even purchase a new or pre-owned motor home. There's good entertainment. So come to Indianapolis for a great time. Herman
  23. Patrick, Is it by some chance a 2007 Monaco Signature? Paul Everett? Beware is all I will say. If you want more information send me a PM. Herman
