Backing Up The Coach With The Toad Attached
wayne77590 replied to CarlAda's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
More likely to damage the car than the tow bar as the wheels will turn in the opposite direction of the intended turn damaging the front end steering system. -
Thanks Bill.

I use a realtor lock box for RV door access keys. DW doesn't like to carry heavy objects in her purse so many a time she puts here set in the glove box of the TOAD. The TOAD has key-less entry and we can get in anytime for the keys from the door panel entry buttons.

RV Antenna Installation - Best Place to Drill

A little RTV sealant will help protect against rub around that hole. -
My RV did not come with a satellite dish/dome so I purchesed the Winegard Carryout. It has the same limitations as any dome, dish - full HD 1 satellite at a time. Direct - 1 satellite and no HD. The nice thing about it is that when I am parked under trees, as I am now, I can find an opening up to 50 feet in any direction. The carryout is smaller than a lot of dome antenna but the only time I loose a signal is during very heavy rains. Light rain and dew moisture does not have an affect on it even at 30-40% signal strength. I would like a traveler and it is sometime in the future. One problem with having the traveler is that I presently have only one satellite line coming into the RV. In order to have the full functionality of the traveler a second line would somehow need to be run. One dealer said hole over the recieve location through the roof. I don't like that idea so any suggestions are appreciated.

See my post. You don't have to spend hundreds of $$ for a step motor when they are available for less than $80.

Check with some of the other manufacturers, like Demco that has them up through 2015 for your model. They may have 2016, worth the call. Check with the other tow bar companies. If you can get another hole drilled in the light fixture it should be the same for installing a separate light system and no diodes needed.

RV Antenna Installation - Best Place to Drill

No, two pane laminate is a continuous piece so the conduction through the glass is okay. With the dual pane the air gap keeps the conductivity down considerably. Just for the heck of it I set up the through the glass on my side widow. I'm lucky to get out a 1/4 mile or so down the road. -
The OEM manual that cam with my RV states that there may be times when water stands on the topper. They suggest raising one side of the RV before retracting the slide. Well, that works but you need to stop and let the water drain a couple times when retracting. Works for me 'cuz I'm lazy to tighten the spring and to cheap to pay to have it done. I would think that since the manual says what to do that they properly tightened the spring but realize it will still do it. Funny, it's only the 12Ft slide and not the 23Ft slide.

With 1 watt and a wet string for an antenna it is possible to transmit around the world if conditions are right. They call it Antenna Theory and the antennas on the market have proven to work under certain conditions. You could lay a magnetic mount antenna sideways under the front hood and it would work. As well as one on the roof, no, but it would work. If you don't want any antenna sticking up over the highest part of the roof you could string a wire between two points and it would work. All you need for an antenna is a good piece of RG-58. Strip the rubber insulator back to 1/4 wavelength. Fold the braid back over the rubber insulator. Put a PL-259 on the other and and plug it into the radio. Leave the phenolic insulator on the center conductor. Find some way to mount the contraption using insulators and you have an antenna. I strung one up in a tree for CB frequencies back in the early '70's and not only communicated withing the confines of the base but many a day back to the US when conditions were right (Think skip). Make the cut back a little longer than 1/4 wavelength by a couple inches and trim it back using an SWR meter to 1:5 ratio or less but even a 2:5 ration will work just not as efficiently. It is all "Antenna Theory." If it works, use it. One of the major concerns for any antenna system is the RFI it can create. With the newer electronics in the fan-dangled machines it can cause a computer to go wacky-wack. -
The step has a current limiting switch(controller) and when it reaches the current limit it shuts off. If the step is in a bind position the current will reach the limit at will not operate. Typical problems are dirt/debree in the gear teeth or possibly a broken tooth in the motor. Unfortunately I am not where I can get to the provider that I ordered my step motor from (kwikee step) but the price was less than 75 dollars. Ordering through a dealer would have been over $200. I have seen them advertised on Amazon. Just be sure that the motor you need is the left hand motor or the right hand motor. It is how the motor is attached to the gears. I think they also make motor gear replacments for the step motor but I don't remember the details.

I'm KE5QG. I don't have HAM set up in the RV but back in the day I ran many a through the glass antenna and it was adequate. With the repeaters there shouldn't be a problems. There will be a problem if the window is double pane. High up on the front windshield should give good results. Being a line-of-site frequency is going to restrict you on the open road if there are no repeaters around. -
Regardless of tire pressure I had the Safe-T-Plus steering stabilizer installed on my coach. It is one of the better things I have done. No more road drift. No more heavy sway when 18 wheelers pass, better stability when cross winds present. Blah, blah, blah.

He has to be careful. There are so many little men running around in his head that he never knows which one is going to pop up and say something.

Dish Users Shortcut For Change Of Service Address

I got a service rep the other day that I could understand about every 5th word and then with difficulty. Sheesh, know what you mean. -
Carl, seems Winnebaggo goes with the lowest bidder especially during the downturn of 2008. I have Kwikee slide motors, electric, and Kwikee jacks, hydraulic. No telling what they may install. It was just a passing thought in case they had those items, and I think there would be certain aspects of the systems that we all share. Of course, your items are more expensive, right?
-
Many of the newer Winnebagos have a two lock switches and I'm assuming yours are electric. If hydraulic, just ignore this post. First one is the slide lock and if it is engaged the slide will not move - no juice. You can press the lock/unlock rocker and you should hear it lock/unlock. That doesn't necessarily mean it is unlocked all the way. The second and primary one is the control lock for all slides. It typical configuration (again electric I don't know about Winne's Hydraulic systems) contains a key. One way is locked and the other turn of the key is unlocked. If this is not completely in the unlock position the slide will not move. Turn the key all the way to the lock position then to the unlock position and try the slide again. Then there is always the call to the Winnebago Service Center. (800) 537-1885))

They have "Through the glass" CB antennas but make sure you don't have double pane windows. A Through the glass will get you a couple miles down the road. -
There are several safeguards to prevent the jacks from operating. The manual should tell what they are. Examples: engine needs to be running or not be running; emergency (parking) brake needs to be set; key switch to turn on and off the jack system not in the fully on position. That is about as many as I can think about of the top of my head and those will vary from coach to coach. When in doubt and you don't have the manual, call Winnebago with the serial # of the coach.

We left May 14th this year and returned September 13th this year. Four months if fine traveling.

ROFL

The older I get the less I can lift. Childhood days I could snatch 120 lbs from the floor straight up with one hand. Hard to bend over and pick up shoes now. Besides, I can just picture myself in removing the tire. As the last hole clears the last thread over backward I would go and have to wait for a good Samaritan to stop and assist me in getting the tire off my chest.

Carl, Did mike tell you how to hold the brush to brush off the cookie? Was it chocolate chip. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Joe, that is true for most states as required by Federal Law. Thanks for the post.
