  1. I always always prefill both filters on my ISL and nary a problem
  2. Adams, I don't get it. He asked if it was a good deal etc You could put a GM Crewcab 4X4 behind that 42 foot bus and still be legal anywhere in NA for gawds sake. I have friend who lives next door to me with a 45 Provost and dodge dually one ton and has been in CA for years and nary a worry. In fact almost all 400 MH in my resort are 43-45 with large toads. its not a consideration at all and nothing to do with what the Op is asking for information on
  3. OK like I said if the unit has been maintained and has all the new up to date type oils and coolants and trans filters etc and is in the shape indicated you really can't go wrong at 80K with the old toad included. However I personally recommend getting a real good RV guy to do a total inspection and also run all the slides in/out several times and go through the jack deployment a couple times etc etc
  4. Yes, you still need the converter for the rear (analog) TV. Connect it right at the rear TV.
  5. Allegiance, I said 80K is high mileage because it is what it is. that's high mileage for a 2004 era diesel pusher when compared to whats out there. look at most all out there and there between 30 and 60K. it was a comment that really meant nothing just my view/observation of things. Take two IDENTICAL Motorhomes one is 40K mileage and one is 80+K mileage are you trying to tell us that there both worth the same identical money-- ain't going to happen. All in All it seems like a nice unit and a decent price. Just need the OP to report back on answers to my questions to be definitive in my opinion of price etc.
  6. desertdeals, We're not talking about the same situations or conditions. Brakes are only required on both axles if over 6100 lbs also towing a trailer behind a large DPMH has different requirements brake wise over say pulling the same trailer behind a small pick up. Brakes are not required on a toad weighing less than 4400lbs and is less than 40% of the gross vehicle weight rating of the MH The other thing is you can't just say Canada. We have ten provinces and every one has different laws. The ones I am familiar with are BC. So in some provinces your friend is correct and in others not so. I should have clarified I was talking BC. Also note he was not stopped at the border. Border patrol are not MOT and have no jurisdiction regarding brakes on trailer axles etc I been through the border hundreds of times over the years and have never once heard of or seen any border guard do a mechanical inspection or inquire.
  7. The state that you have as your drivers license dictates what kind of license is required and NOT the state your visiting, so check your local DMV for correct license. 500HP is very very nice Big plus..80K is high miles but if super clean and properly serviced and new tires it sounds like a reasonable deal. Its a upper end unit Does it have a dish washer? How many hours on the gen set? all and all sounds like a killer unit to me especially with the toad thrown in. I would track down a person whom knows diesel pushers inside and out and pay him to do a full inspection. Also get the actual owner to personally run the slides in and out a couple times each and same with the jacks. Find out if the trans has 295 Allison oil and has the new filters, make sure the aquahot has been serviced.make sure its got the Cummins lifetime coolant etc. If all this has been done then that means the guy really really looked after this unit.
  8. sounds reasonable with the toad. How many slides? What motor? How many" miles"? Have the old out of date TV.s been upgraded? What year are the tires? Dish washer? Washer/dryer? Hours on gent set? Type of fridge?
  9. The 6.5 GM turbo diesel was a disaster.
  10. Where in the US can you earn 8% after income tax with no risk/?? You may be able to get 8% before tax but what about risk factor. Its not like your 40 here (what were discussing) never borrow money against a depreciating asset if your not working unless you have millions in offshore accounts.
  11. Desert deals that is incorrect. For example a 4 wheel 2 axle trailer has to have brakes on at least one axle unless over a certain weight A trailer made out of a pickup box requires no brakes,A small snowmobile trailer requires no brakes etc. Toads in BC do not require supplemental brake unless over 4000 lbs . there are other exceptions. I would not pull a toad with a gasser without a supplemental brake system personally. I currently pull a Grand Vitara 4x4 with my 41ft Allegro bus without a system as the two stage engine brake and chassis air brakes are sufficient
  12. To each their own. I take a walk around + temp feel when I stop for a P break etc. l know how they look at ride height etc 22.5 x295 tires don't lose air or go flat very often. I have done it this way for 10+ years and never had a problem. I also don't put many miles on per year. I sit in one spot for months on end. I agree TPMS is a great system just something I am not that interested in.
  13. I have read at least 100 posts over the various forum regarding AC/AP. The current MH I have had for 3 years and the rear tires have never lost air and the front ones I added 10 lbs when I got it and are about the same.So am I lucky? I think these people that check AP every day actually are the cause of their own low AP to some degree/?. I check mine twice-3 times a year I bought a battery boost/160AC combo from Costco and it will add 2-3 lbs in a reasonable time.its $70.00
  14. I would never ever even consider nor would recommend any one ever have a mortgage/loan on a motorhome if their either retired and or retired and living full time in the MH. If your retired and need a mortgage/loan to own a motorhome then you should not be retired.
  15. Yes, turtle I have already posted the instructions several posts and days ago.
  16. Hey JIm, I guess if you want to spend a few grand on smart phones and ipads and a couple hundred a month to run them all to locate a propane dealer its a free world. I don't see the reasons and have no need. My laptop computer does everything I need and for under 50$ Per month my almost free trac phone makes the same phone calls as your $800 smart phone. Its not about afford to me its what's a waste and whats not. What you do ( my opinion) is waste $$ and what I do is conserve$$. The end of the day your happy spending money and I am happy that I am saving money. The real interesting angle is I get to my destinations and through my days without a single hardship and don't require a smart phone to do so. Like we say different stokes for different folks. And yes it cost a lot more to go first class.
  17. Personally when traveling in my MH I would sooner have the (EG) Verizon USB air stick and use my lap top at least its got a screen you can see and a keyboard us can type on. You can get this for under 50$ PM. If I need to actually talk to someone I use the $29.00 trac phone that cost like 5.00 per month. Paying 600-800 for a smart phone and like $75-100PM to use it does not make good $$$ sense to me and the screen is so small its hard to see and the keyboard is useless to try and type a email message. Just my opinion and I have looked at lots of them.
  18. What does one "really" need a smart phone for? What real good reason? I have yet to see any real good reason for one? Just more money taken out of ones budget that really serves no needable purpose. have read many replys and its what one wants to spend money on.For the times I need email or weather updates or gps direction over and above the two units I have or whatever its a waste of money 100 or more PM I use my laptop just about anywhere these days if I really need some internet informations to each their own.I Just seem to be able to travel all over with no problems without one I find that of the 100% of the people with them about 80% of the useage is just bs(not required)
  19. Walt, I am curious how you would know its a better cooler?
  20. I seriously doubt there is a 12V heater alive that would heat a basement in a motorhome sufficiently in 8 degree weather. Ok I did nit think 12v heaters would heat a big area like that when its that cold but I guess they do
  21. Its entirely possible there could be some stuff somewhere that could freeze. Really depends how cold and how long its exposed without heat. Assuming the basement factory heat ducts are installed properly and all the water lines are contained in properly heated areas, you should be ok. The way the factory installs stuff with such carelessness one never knows for sure and Fleetwood were never known to be good from my long experience with them. One area to be concerned is if you have a ice maker make sure that water supply line is blown out and no water gets through as basement heat or not the solenoid will freeze and break. Remember if its say 15 above and sitting still with heat on is one thing and driving down the road at 60MPH is a entirely different deal.
  22. My dad was a mechanic and he taught me this deal back in 1965. I have used it very successfully over the years I have found the HID lite conversions work very well. I have them on my high beams now. I have them set for high beam on all the time I don't get flashed and can see pretty good at nite.
  23. Park vehicle about 15-20 feet from garage door or block wall. Have one person sit in front middle of MH and eyeball the center of the door or wall as another person marks where this center site is on the wall or door. Measure from ground to center of headlight, then measure from center of headlight to center of MH front or vice versa Transpose these same measurements onto door or wall. make a X where these measurements intersect on each right and left .Turn lights onto low beam and adjust till low beam centers on the X on each side.Vola your lights will be adjusted where you need them.
  24. I offered some solid guidance in my opinion about what a new buyer should be well aware of. One being that there are lots of better buys and better built motor homes out there than what he has suggested as his first buy. One being the Beaver Motor home. It matters not if Beaver is not in business. There are tons of parts available and most stuff is generic in nature... Just so your aware I own a 2008 Allegro bus for 2 years. My point was and is don't just take a set dollar amount and a certain model without being aware there is a very good possibility that there is a better MH available for the same or less money. I think the newer Phaetons (2012 and newer) are superb units and there huge market share shows(reflects) this position. What I suggested and firmly stand by it is (for example) a 2006 Beaver PT motorhome at $150K is so far above the quality of a 2008 Phaeton its not even comparable. I have owned and worked on several different Diesel pushers. In fact I still own and have owned a large RV dealership since 1985 and have been in the general automotive/RV repair business since 1969.
  25. Allegiance40C, that's exactly what I was saying. I have bought/sold/ owned and worked on several different makes and models of diesel pushers so I am talking from BIG time experience nothing at all to do with what I currently own. Its real world findings from a person in the business over the years.
