  1. I am very serious. One has to choose whether to be comfortable with a proven trans configuration for trouble free towing or go with an automatic that may or may not make it to the next stop. The manufacturers don't tow their vehicles on their test tracks or on the street they do a little spinning on the chassis dyno and thats it. Its up to the public to do the long distance testing. Reason being is that the toad market is so small.
  2. My suggestion is to not be an early adopter and let the model be out and tested for a year or two and see the results before making a decision on which vehicle to buy. I recomend a manual trans or 4 wheel drive that can be shifted into neutral. I have towed a Chevy Silverado 1/2 ton with a 5 speed manual for over 95,000 mile without any problems.
  3. Thats why there is fine print at the bottom saying words to the effect than changes can be made without obligation for units previously mfg.
  4. We always stay at Eagles Nest campground in Pigeon Forge. Stayed there for 2 to 3 months for 4 times in the past 5 years because we worked part time at Dollywood. Clean and well maintained with a laundromat.
  5. If it's harder to keep cool when traveling than sitting still, check to see if there are air leaks under the dash from the outside.
  6. The remote switch or the wiring maybe bad. Current doesn't run through the switch when the unit is running. If my memory serves me correct, if the circuit board doesn't recognize voltage through the regulator it will not keep running. We have replace a number of regulators in our Onan service shop. So many that I carry a spare regulator with me when I travel.
  7. My recommendation is to stick with a vehicle that needs the fewest modifications to make it towable. Aside from the normal tow bar and brake system and maybe pulling a fuse or two that should be it. Shift into neutral on an automatic four wheel drive or into neutral on a standard trans. It seems that the more devices you have the more problems crop up. I tow a 1/2 ton Chev Silverado p/u which has a 5 speed manual transmission, for over 95,000 miles and no problems.
  8. Be sure to check battery voltage at the terminal of the battery, both positive and negative and not at the cable next to the battery.
  9. It's like carrying a fire extinguiser you hope to never use it.
  10. Disconnect the linkage on the motor arm and see if there is a bind going out by pulling out the steps manually. Its a dc motor which the polarity reverses the direction so if the motor runs one direction it should run the other direction too. It may have bad brushes.
  11. Be sure the flange which screws into the tank is sealed and the gasket or the sealer is non leaking at the base flange. There shouldn't be too much pressure in that area. Check to make sure the vent system is not blocked in any way.
  12. Much better than the other day when we were laying out the parking in in the rain! Parked 152 coaches yesterday and 140 today in family electric. Shouldn't have too many left for tomorrow.
  13. I parked a Road Trek in family electric yesterday at Lake Park and the member rode his bike to the fairgrounds and back today.
  14. I have towed a 99 Silverado 1500 for about 95,000 miles. It's a V/6 with a 5 speed. In the bed is a 92 gallon diesel tank. I get 11 mpg with a diesel pusher and added to the fuel capacity on the mh and can go coast to coast without refueling.
  15. Your Holiday Rambler will make it across the country just fine, however from his point of view, and I'm with him, I "need" a diesel power to make it!
  16. Test voltage at the solenoid when red button is pressed. Volt meter black lead on the solenoid case and red to small terninal. If voltage is present and no click solenoid is bad, if no voltage try black to chassis ground.
  17. Its a nice way to go. Done it several times,as recently as last summer, up and back.
  18. I use Spray Nine Greez Off. It loosens the grease and dirt and can be flushed with a garden hose. I have a rear mount radiator which needs cleaning every year. This product is the best for cleaning chassis, engines, transmissions etc. Grease just rinses off.
  19. If it is like the past, generators will be started at 9:00 am on the first day of electric. We like you to arrive without your toad hooked up but if that's not possible we will let you unhook in the area. Sometimes we can park you before you unhook but please don't count on that. Looking forward to seeing you and many others. I'm the one in the red hat with the crew parking family electric.
  20. Front to back of the coach is more critical. Look at the coils. They are on a flat plane with the slope going down fore and aft.
  21. Go to a hardware store or Home Depot, Lowes and get the right brass fittings. They have reducers or what ever you need to make it work.
  22. I have been using a strong magnet on the oil filter for about 7 years. Its so strong its almost impossible to remove. You have to slide it off. I have put 115,000 miles so far. I can't remember the manufacturer but I got it at a trade show.
  23. The tank came out of a 98 discovery on a freightliner chassis. It has a remote fill with the switch to close the valve at the tank so you can fill the tank with the remote fill fitting. The other plumbing is straight forward, just a tee as the valve position control which tank you are using.
