  1. We belong to both. At the GS rally in Phoenix they offered to upgrade to lifetime membership for $199. I went for it and they also refunded my unused portion of my current membership. GS membership gives you the Camping World discount which use to be presidents club. Also if you were at the Phoenix rally you get to go to Louisville in June for free!
  2. I changed mine from 30 amp to 50 amp about 8 years ago. If you understand electricity and are familiar with 120 volt circuits its pretty easy. I bought some of the parts at a home improvement store, such as breaker box and breakers. Some items such as line transfer switch, 50 amp cord need to come from an rv parts house.
  3. I've been using a portable induction cook top for over 3 years now with good sucess. It draws 1/2 the current and boils water in half the time. You need steel pans.
  4. As long as the awning is in good condition and is used properly there is no need for any kind of straps. I motorhomed for 36 years and over 400,000 miles in 10 motorhomes without an incident with the awning. Just make sure you have it secured correctly. I have been caught in 50 mph winds. Just make sure it is locked so the roller tube will not unwind.
  5. I had some issues with the alternator on my ISB Cummins. It originally came with a Delco which was the same physical size as an automotive one. After rebuilding it a couple of times I realized I was working it to death. I have 2 group 31's for the engine and 6 golf cart batteries for the coach. The alt was just working too hard all the time. I went to the next frame size larger Delco and had it built for 240 amp output. It has worked fine for the last 7 years and 100,000 miles.
  6. You might check to see if you have a relay (solenoid) that does the power switching for the ignition circuit. The key triggers the relay so the current load doesn't have to go through the key switch. Mine had a dead spot and it took me 2 years to figure it out. Sometimes it wouldn't start, but would still crank, but the dash was dead, and sometimes it would quit just going down the road.
  7. When I broke a hose clamp on the cac hose the engine didn't have enough power to move the coach. The hose would just blow off. I would check the waste gate, maybe stuck open.
  8. I have had a lcd tv mounted under the cabinet over my bed for years and thousands of miles. Last summer I upgraded to a led lcd for less current draw. The only tvs that don't travel well laying flat is the plasma tv. My front tv is a 40 inch led lcd Samsung which is 1.2 inches thick and is hinged at the top with gas struts to hold it up when accessing the compartment behind it. It travels in the viewing position.
  9. If you have a slide you are limited to the type of flooring that you can use. We did a lot of research on types of flooring and found out that you want all wood. Most of the flooring out there is cored with ground up paper center and the actual finish is only paper thick. Read the information on maintenence and if it says no water don't use it. We bought bamboo wood which has a wood core. Has a 50 year waranty and it scrubbable with water. The surface is about a 1/16 inch thick. It is available a Costco.
  10. I have used the road relay for 11 years and it is very usefull in the operation of the motorhome. I used it to constantly adjust my speed to acheve the best fuel milage at that moment. The warnings it gives for low oil and low pressure etc. is, in my estimation , priceless. As far as the accuracy of speed, the ecm needs to be programed with the correct rear end ratio, tire size, and revs per mile. I get 11 mpg towing a Silverado going across the country, generally running about 60 mph.
  11. Hookup cables have gone through four generations of design since coax. Composite, s-video, component, hdmi. If your not interested in High Definition why don't you just keep what you have. If you want to get broadcast TV just get a digital converter box and you old TV's will work. There is no adapter to allow coax to be used with hdmi.

  13. I wouldn't do much if anything to the engine. I went through all the stuff to get more power. Injector pump, injectors.etc. I got all the power I needed. The problem is the cooling system is not adequate to cool the engine and I ran out of gears because I had a Allison 545 4 speed. After spending a ton of money I pulled the engine and trans and replaced it with a 98 ISB 275. Changed the radiator. cac and trans cooler. Went with a MD3060 Allison which has 2 overdrive gears. I tow a Silverado and on a cross country trip last spring averaged a tick over 11 mpg.
  14. You maybe over torqueing the screws. I presume you have lubed it.
  15. Its a matter of preference. If you need more room go with the larger. If parking in some campgrounds which has a length restriction and that is important go with the shorter one. Some of the federal campground have a 30 foot limit. Most commercial campgrounds will accommodate up to 45 foot.
  16. I was told by a trucker that makes regular deliveries to Canada that all axles on the ground need brakes. It doesn't make any difference if it is a boat, utility trailer, rv trailer, car or truck, or a tow dolly. There are probably some crossings into Canada that you might slip through.
  17. I believe that with a tow dolly you will still have to toad brakes because I think in Canada and maybe some states all axles have to have brakes.
  18. We have run across some national parks with a 30 ft max limit. Need to check with each park. In re-engineering my 32 ft Spartan chassis, I changed the solid front axle for an Tuthill independent. Better ride and tighter turning radius.
  19. How's the front end alignment? Sounds like it needs more caster. Back in the 70's when we towed VW beetles we would have to put bungee cords on the steering wheel to prevent that very thing.
  20. It should work. If the awning is spring loaded, care must be exercised because when the top is removed from the arm it has spring tension on it. It is prewound some 20+ turns.
  21. When I parked the towables, some had friends in motorhomes that parked nearby.

What happened is the it was originally scheduled for around the 4th of July when the powers to be found out that the manufacturers are in vacation mode and model changeover and would not attend. The earliest available date was late in August. Some of my grand kids start back to school the second week in August, the rest by the middle of the month.
  23. I run aluminum wheels in all positions because of the trueness of the wheels and not the weight reduction. Because the wheel is much thicker at the lugs the inner dual is moved out about 3/4 inch. I needed that extra clearance when I changed axles, for the shock clearance.
  24. I was told that we would have trailers at the 2011 Perry convention and that I would have to park them. Sure enough 15 of them showed up so I parked them together at the corner of the family electric lot. I see that you can register for Indianapolis with a towable.
