  1. Bill, the dry camp area is $30 per day (not $65) during the fiesta and $15 during the week prior to the beginning of the fiesta. Free is better but it's nice when you can see balloons flying over your RV while you are making coffee. Don
  2. So, are you going? Where are you staying? Private parks, balloon fiesta grounds, which lot? We will be in the Standard RV parking, no hook-ups. Look us up. FMCA 409608 on the ladder. Don
  3. Have you checked the breaker at the generator? Don
  4. In Lockhart, Texas Black's BBQ and Smitty's BBQ Lockhart has to be the BBQ Capitol of Texas. Don
  5. Check out the link below. I follow a blog of a couple traveling the country and they just drove 550 to Silverton. They were glad they didn't take their coach. There is a picture of the highway on this linked page. Have a safe trip. Don http://wheelingit.wordpress.com/2011/07/23/million-dollar-views-mines-brothels-silverton-co/
  6. We traveled a part of your intended route this time last year. From Grand Canyon South Rim we took Hwy 89 through Page, AZ (Lake Powell, Glen Canyon) beautiful country, then west to Glendale, UT where we stayed at Bauer's Canyon Ranch RV Park (nice small park, friendly owners) where we made home base for touring Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon, and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. If you have a big rig I would not recommend driving it through Zion National Park as there is a long tunnel through the mountain on Hwy 9 and they have to stop traffic on either end to let you through. Cedar Breaks to the north and west was not open yet. Zion and Bryce are breath taking. From this locale you could travel north and go through Salt Lake City or north and east through Denver. Enjoy your trip. Don
  7. I am not currently in the Garfield area but we bought our coach from Jon Steinbring so I have to surmise he has the motorhome you are interested in. If you need a reference we cannot speak highly enough of the Steinbring people. It was truly a great experience. Every business should operate the way Jon does. Don
  8. I do not know the answer to your question. But, I can tell you that if we need to replace our cooling unit, it won't be another Norcold. It will be an Amish Cooling Unit. They are made with thicker tubing than the Norcold units. This has, apparently, been the culprit in all the problems with failing on the Norcold units. Don
  9. Have you had any of the Norcold recall repairs done? Don
  10. Tireman9, Here is my information. Newmar Allstar, Class A, 42 ft., Spartan Chassis, mid engine Cummins ISL 400 Empty gray tank, empty black tank, 40 gals. fresh water, fuel tank full (100 gals.), no humans, empty frig., empty closets, but the basement has the usual assortment of folding chairs, 2 tables, weber grill, bag of tools (30lbs.), etc. In other words, stocked but not fully loaded for a trip. RF---5,740 LF---6,330 RR---9,150 LR---9,070 CAT scales Don
  11. Not familiar with St. Louis. Avoid the north side of Springfield. Don
  12. I enjoy the forums and magazine here and the occasional discount at RV parks, but the fuel discount is somewhat meaningless. My recent observation in south and central Texas is that Pilot and Flying J are at $3.50/gal plus or minus, and Shell stations, and others, are at $3.30. What difference does a discount at Flying J make? Don
  13. Thanks to all. Camping World does have a sale now, but the price is $136. Not bad considering the price at my local RV store is $177. Don
  14. OK, thanks for the suggestions. I have another question. I looked at a 50 amp 30 ft. extension cord today and it showed 6/3-8/1 STW. Are these numbers the wire gauge? Don
  15. Of course. I might need the 50 amp extension someday anyway. Why didn't I think of that. (probably because of cost). Definitely a semi-senior moment. Thanks, Brett. Don
  16. I am going to need to buy a 25-foot extension cord for an upcoming camping trip. Our coach is 50-amp. We will need a 30-amp extension cord. I already have a 50- to 30-amp adapter. My question is this: Do we lose any voltage by having what will end up being a 52-foot cord with a dogbone in the middle? And if we do, how much? We will already be giving up some amps. I don't want to lose voltage as well. Thank you. Don
  17. As a matter of fact I had it in for the first oil change about three months ago. They were supposed to lube also. I guess it could be a coincidence that the stain is oriented such that it looks like something has leaked since I parked it. Thanks for your reply. Don
  18. What could be the source of an oily stain on the inside of the front driver's side tire. Something has dripped straight down onto the wheel and tire since we put our motorhome in storage. Whatever leaked was not enough to reach the ground, but it is obviously not normal. Our motorhome is a Spartan Allstar Chassis, 2009. It has not been driven since mid November and is in a totally enclosed storage. I just happened to notice this stain today when doing routine battery maintenance and general inspection. I was not dressed appropriately to be able to crawl underneath to inspect closer. Many thanks for any replies and suggestions. Don
  19. Ron, If I may ask, how old is your refrigerator? Don
  20. It is OK to stay plugged in all winter. You should verify if you have an inverter/charger. If you do, the charger will keep a "float charge" on your batteries constantly. Be sure the charger is turned on. However, the constant charging may deplete the electrolyte in your wet battery cells over time (probably house batteries) so you should mark on your calendar to check the water level in your batteries at least once a month. I have an alert set on my iPhone for the first of every month to do just that. Don
  21. I just learned of a new and expanded Norcold Recall for refrigerators. Our 2009 model is included. Check out the link to see if your's is included. http://www.norcoldrecall.com/ Don
  22. It's easy to go overboard on this. We have a simple Johnson & Johnson 200 item kit that cost about $25 at Walmart. We figured with this and other items in our bathroom pantry we would be pretty much covered for most minor emergencies. Don
  23. I am checking into one of these. Apparently, Best Buy handles some of Wilson's products. I'm on my way. Don
  24. Brett, Thanks for your suggestions. They ended up replacing the TCM/ECU and I haven't had a problem since. Don
