So true. We had Coach Net through Spartan when our coach was in warranty. Used them once. Good experience. Switched to Good Sam after a few years. Had two horrible experiences. Went back to Coach Net. We have been towed three times in 12 years. In each case we called the road side assistance company, then we found a tow company ourselves after asking around, knowing what to ask for, then called assistance company back and told them our tow was on the way and they had to approve them. They have in each case. If we had waited for the assistance company to call back it would have been hours later. You have to be proactive and then stand your ground! Good Sam sent a tow truck for our towed car. The truck had to have been a classic (about 25 years old). He couldn't get his winch/boom to work and I had to give him a battery boost after I fired him. Jim and Carl, Thanks. I would enjoy the thrill and my wife would enjoy the scenery but *hit happens and I have become too much of a "what if" guy and I don't want to put us in a precarious position if something goes wrong with the rig on the climb up the pass. I might do it south to north but that white line gets mighty close to the edge in many spots going north to south. I think I'll go east like Carl suggests. Don

We will be traveling south from Canada next summer and plan to be in Montrose, CO visiting friends. Would you drive Hwy 550 south to Durango in a 42 ft. MH, towing a car on a tow dolly? Is it treacherous all the way or for just a few miles? I've heard all kinds of stories and watched some videos but can't decide if we should do it. Don

It went fine. A little expensive but we're glad they caught it. First class service at the Spartan factory and a nice parking lot with 50 amp. We only had to stay in a motel one night. They caught a few more minor issues and repaired them. We are aligned and truckin! 2,800 miles after the repair and going strong. Thenks for asking. Don

I agree. I used our TDS EFS card on a recent trip several times. At TA's I saved about 12 cents a gallon but that is about what I save using a VISA card I have which gives 5% charge back on fuel. Another time I used it at a Flying J and got penalized a dollar with no discount because they are not on the list. They need to sign up a lot more fueling places. These 25 to 30 cent discounts I heard about haven't come my way yet. I have no experience with the TCS card.

Jim, I don't blame him at all. My guess is he has already had a run in or two with the CEO at WGO and has decided to take life easy. Good for him. I just hope this new WGO guy who is replacing him doesn't kill the proverbial goose that lays golden Aire, Star and Essex eggs. And, I hope Matt's departure isn't signalling that WGO is already compromising on the Newmar quality. Don

The excuse the “moderator “ used to close the thread was that it was too political to state the facts of what is going on down here. I have property near the border and I can tell you that it’s worse than I have ever seen it. I no longer feel safe visiting any border town. Plus, I hear a significant number of illegal migrants have Covid-19. I had a Border Patrol agent tell me personally that the people coming across for the last couple of years are mostly drug smugglers or cartel members, not just people seeking a better life. Americans who live outside of this area just don’t understand how bad it is. There it is. And not one political overtone! Corpus might be OK but I wouldn’t chance any Rio Grande Valley location. Don

Carl, You are correct. The torque box has rotated causing the rods to separate from the bushing on one side and pushing in to the bushing on the other side. This caused the rear axle to shift a bit. They caught it in time. No one can tell me how this happened. Ray, Yes they have all the parts needed and will drop the axle and replace torque box and other related parts over the next couple of days. Glad we caught it when we did. Thanks for the feedback. We are at the Spartan factory in Charlotte, MI. They did an inspection and found an issue with the HBT torque box and said it needed to be replaced Anyone have any experience with this? it is a time consuming and expensive repair. Thanks in advance I don't yet even know what a torque box is. Don

Ditto here Eric. Michael and Dave are customer friendly and their crew do a great job. We also had body and paint work done, and there is no way we can tell where it was painted. I have been going there for 3 years now and wouldn't go anywhere else. Don

We tried to run both once in a state park on 30 amp but we were at the end of a loop and voltage was about 112 or less, so it didn't work out. Breakers would throw and generator would start, etc. We do have a built in surge protector and EMS.

So, what I hear most of you saying is that the Soft Start devices are a waste of time and money?

bm02tj, Thanks for the reply. My understanding is the problem with 2-15,000btu ac units and 30 amp plug-in is that while one unit can kick on and run, using about 12 amps, if the other unit is needed and then kicks on, the start-up amperage kicks the total to above 30 amps and throws a breaker. Whereas, with a soft start unit, the start-up amperage is diminished to a point the second unit can start up without the initial spike in amps and then both can run in the 25 amp range. Is this correct? Don

We're going to be in areas of the country early summer where there are mostly state parks with 30 amp service. We need 50 amp to run both ACs. What are your thoughts/experiences with these Soft/Easy Start devices. Are they worth it? Do they work as advertised? Which brand do you recommend or which brand to stay away from? Thanks. Don
