Bunk....it's gives you so little additional area of support that I can't imagine it being much benefit. I will rarely get my heavy rig in an area that soft where I would need pads under my jacks anyway. I read the reviews on Amazon and it never talked about helping in soft surfaces. Makes your rv more stable was the biggy. $150 eeek.

I forgot about the magazine, most forums have a classified section. I've listed it on the Escapees forum where I've had a lot of success buying and selling.
-
Not to hijack this thread, but can someone explain to me what the real not perceived benefit of these "cool jack pads" would be?
-
I realize that FMCA doesn't currently have a classified section for members or at least I can't find it. Would that be something of interest to others? I refuse to list anything on Craigslist because of all the scammers I have to deal with.

If your switch is the same as mine, it's a goofy switch. If I understood correctly and that's a big if, it's only a two way switch. It is either on/auto or off. The auto tag dump nomenclature is the name of the switch according to the help desk. I was getting the same message whenever I applied the brakes at low speed. I have the passive steer also if that makes any difference. I cannot raise my tag, only relieve the downward force (pressure).

High winds? When do you pull over and sit it out?

Jeep Cherokee Flat Towing 2014-2018
elkhartjim replied to C4fdr's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
I have noticed the FMCA towing guide gets shorter every year. We may all eventually end up using a trailer or tow doll or towing a Wrangler.- 74 replies

High winds? When do you pull over and sit it out?
elkhartjim replied to mweiner's topic in General Discussion
Well if he was being pushed by hurricane force winds it could be possible. I would think you could shut the engine off and let the 75 mph winds push you north. Of course, after the eye passes the wind direction will change and you'll have a 75 mph headwind. There may be more than one typo in his post.- 30 replies

Yep, I remember and I somehow got what I believe was the only pull through spot. We went to some hole in the wall cafe on a bayou that had some good eatin. Glad they got the road paved for sure.

I know what you mean Herman, for years I thought I was being frugal until my wife convinced me I'm just cheap. Oh well!

High winds? When do you pull over and sit it out?
elkhartjim replied to mweiner's topic in General Discussion
Wow....sustained hurricane force winds in north Texas. I was 250 miles inland when the eye of Hurricane Ike came over and never had sustained winds higher than 40mph. Plus, I don't know how I could drive a high profile rv in a hurricane. 73 + mph: Hurricane Widespread structural damage; roofs torn off homes; weak buildings and mobile homes destroyed; large trees uprooted.- 30 replies

I think that's a given, are you trying to make another point that I'm missing? BTW, it took me a minute to figure TP was tire pressure. That usually indicates something else on my shopping list.

Now the topic has changed to wagering and beer, what will be next? I made a mistake and bought a 18 pack or I think it was 18 and had to throw the last 12 away because they went flat. Remember when a case of beer had 24 and now they call it a pack of 18. Of course the 18 cost more than the 24 did. I recently found a bottle of Markers Mark 46 that we bought during a Kentucky distillery tour some years ago, dang that's good stuff. I've since bought 2 more. Mind you this is strictly for cooking purposes. You see, I sip it will watching the DW cooks. Of course the entire time I'm thinking about using wash and wax or Bon Ami to clean the motorhome.

What about 9000# on the tag and drive 13,500#? Here again, I'm a novice but that seems way out of range. Like Joe said, I would be a little hesitant trusting Tiffin at this point. Newmar had a problem with front axle weights on the 2016 Dutch Star models and had a recall where they replaced the front axle and wheels. Please understand, I'm only wanting to gain more knowledge since I'm a first time tag owner with our Newmar. You mentioned mobile service being similar in cost to in house, I've never found that to be the case and most likely to find a qualified tech you're either going to a Freightliner shop or a major truck mechanic. I'll be interested in what you find in the Houston area. Please keep us updated.
-
I'm certainly a novice on this subject but I would be concerned with what damage, if any, has occurred in the 24,000 miles the motorhome has been driven with the weights so out of whack. Could the leak in the Allison be attributed to this weight issues? Personally, I would not want to drive the motorhome any further than absolutely necessary.
-
Same on our Newmar.

I cautioned the new sheriff when he changed the topic to Bon Amin and now you guys are running with it. Shame, shame, shame....in my best Gomez Pyle voice of course. Reminder, wash and wax is the topic so just suggest using Bon Ami as an aid to wash and wax and you're covered.

I believe it is what most of my yankee friends refer to as a crayfish. The more refined southerners refer to it as a crawfish, thus, I refer to it as a mud bug. Sugar and gasoline are about the only refined things in my life.
-
BTW Joe, you get the best flavor when you suck the head of the mud bug. Oh, and it does appear in some lawns after one of our toad stragglers. Yeah....I'm gonna make you ask.

This year you'll need to go a lot further than Port A for meals, as of last week there was only one restaurant open and some of the others are no longer there. Harvey really did a number on one our favorite places. I'm sure by next year things will be much better. According to some of the locals, the problem is getting contractors, there is a huge shortage of skilled workers in the area.

Mud bugs, poor mans lobster. So that I remain on topic, best when eaten when experiencing cabin fever.
