I lean towards Dicor! It tends to be more flexible over a wider temperature range. The roof being made of fiberglass, silicon will not react or be detrimental. However, fiberglass has a broad expansion and contraction factor regarding temperature changes and Dicor has greater flexibility over a longer period of time. Dicor will take around 7 to 10 days to begin to firm up, but you can use the coach. Just remember to not to poke at it for a good month, much longer curing time then silicon. PenRay, Brett is correct ! The only thing I would add is, if you can order the Workshop Manual for your chassis, it is well worth the money. They cover the wiring diagrams and all the mechanical information. You can get all kinds of information in regards to what parts and there numbers with your Vin Number. The Manuals are not free,so you might want to check price. The other option is to ask them to send you the drawings for the Chassis electrical,air brake plumbing and a copy of how to read Freightliner drawings. I travel with my manuals and PDF files. When you have a problem, you have much more information then 90% of the service centers at hand. I have never had my coach brake down in the driveway. Well ! nothing major anyway. Rich.

We have from time to time put some ice(a bag full) in the black tank) when its recharged after dumping and we are going to drive fora few hrs. This has cleaned the bottom of the tank well as the ice slides around on the bottom of the tank. Also use a wand to get cleaned out after dumping between ice treatments. Rich.

John, always a good idea to have the radiator and CAC cleaned. I do mine every other year, and if I have traveled through some longer construction sites or dirt roads it gets a bath at a car or better yet truck wash while on the road. I use simple green in the spray bottle and apply it on both the inside and outside exposed areas. When at home I have access to my large air compressor to spray the engine with an old engine cleaning wand and low pressure,pressure washer. It gets a good cleaning. The Engine temperature runs at 183 to 185 on average when things are clean. Your thermostat my run hotter on the newer unit. I do know when the radiator needs some TLC, because the temp starts to run over 190 on average. With all the fan issues. Personally, I would be looking for a fan system that runs continually. Setting the speed at a point that keeps the temp at a point the engine runs well on 90 % of the grades you encounter. Rich.

Sounds like the float or the needle and seat are dirty or out of ajustment. Carburetor needs to be cleaned and repaired. This work could be done at a Small Engine repair shop. One needs information off the engine, like make, model and serial number for the service shop, so they can order the required parts. With the generators being hard to remove for repair ,the shop might be able to just remover the carburetor to repair it. The carburetor will need to be adjusted for proper operation once its been installed again. Rich.

Batteries Not Charging While Connected to Shore Power

Ty ! Bill and Brett are correct in their information. However ! you have a Bad or Bad batteries !!!! I'm concerned that you could have one of them explode on you. This is a safety issue The generator starts off the chassis batteries. The charger / inverter is powered from the 120 volts supplied from shore power or the generator. The reset you are pushing is rated at 25 amps. and trips because it sees a short in the coach batteries. The reason that your coach batteries charge when the engine is running is because the positive feed from the alternator is fused (or should be at between 100 to 150 amps) that much current into a bad battery can over heat it and it could explode !!!!!! This issue must be cleared up before you try to drive the coach home !!! The worst case(s) are a battery that Blows Up or you fry the alternator adding to the repair cost. If you are not sure how to check the batteries for the proper water levels and voltage, just ask for help from another camper at the camp ground. Pay attention to how the cables are connected, ether with good notes and drawings,a few pictures or better yet both. We have all been on your learning curve at some point and I want you to be safe and enjoy yourself. Rich. -

The only other though I have: There has to be power feeding the circuit that operates the solenoid when you turn off the key, that should not happen !! There has to be a relay someplace, maybe in the controller that gets power when you turn off the ignition key. That relay would (should be) disabled when driving, so you could not unlatch the door accidentally. When you turn off the key the circuit energizes and it should not. That leads me to think the control board has issues. There very well could be a defective diode in the solenoid circuit or the circuit that drives it or a cold solder connection on the board. Rich.

Tank And Lines Heat During Winter Driving

Do you know if your coach has the tank heater option for cold weather camping. Should it be equipped with them you can run the generator to keep the heater pads powered under the holding tanks. This helps to keep things from freezing when you get back up North until you have time to get it winterized by keeping it plunged in to a heavy power cord. Rich. -

Ty, The Button you push to reset is a circuit breaker. How old are the batteries ? Have you checked the water level in the coach batteries? Sounds like the circuit breaker is opening due to a short in one of the batteries. Do you have a meter to check the voltage of each one of the batteries? Rich. -
Think you may have a fuel filter plugged or the fuel pump has failed. Rich.

1997 Holiday Rambler Navigator. Interesting, but more of a frustration for you. The fact that the wires to the door circuit where disconnected when you purchased the coach kind of tells me there was a problem and disconnecting things was an inexpensive way out. From your description my thoughts are a bad receiver, bad ground, loose connection or pin in the power harness or a short in the wiring between the controller and the door circuit. Intermittent problems are always real hard to find. Rich.

Good Morning Joe, Well I had to think on this one and I'm not totally up to speed on how they wired you coach, but here is a link to a Power Tek box for controlling the front TV. http://pdxrv.com/catalog/i90.html The box is connected to the Ignition switch,that feeds 12 volts to the relay inside. The fact that the coach starts when you turn off the breaker,might be more just happenstance then the real problem. The 120 volt circuit should not in any way affect the starting circuit. Wish I had more information on your particular coach. Thinking its an ignition SW. issue or the neutral safety switch. Rich. Hope the fishing is good !!!

Check and see if there is a dirty contact on the door or frame that is restricting power to the solenoid. Frequent problem on some models. Rich.

Residential Refrigerator Power Requirements: UPDATE

I=P/V I (Current in amps) equals P (Power in watts) divided by V (voltage) . To start most refrigerator compressors requires somewhere between 3 to 5 amps for a medium sized unit. That is around 350 to 500 watts and one has to allow a surge current caused by the starting and run capacitor. The run current / constant current would be around 2.5 to 3 amps for an energy star unit. That equals 30 to 40 amps at 12 volts to run the units. The biggest issue comes down to the number of cycles per hr. and that is affected by the number of times the doors are opened and the temperature. Most of the coaches that are using the home stile refrigerators have gone to 6 - 6 volt deep cycle batteries. Rich. -

The set up for the Diesels is different from the OBD2. Most use VSMpc software on there computers with the proper interface box and software. There will be a round 6 or 9 pin connection near the steering wheel. Richards thoughts are valid. However, the fact that the step retracts when the ignition is off should negate that as a source of power, unless there is an issue with the switch. Thinking the power is coming from the magnetic switch at the door, and when the ignition switch is off that should open that as a power source. When one wants to retract the steps, when parked. There is generally a manual override switch in the step power circuit. Two links to some technical information on 2 different setups. Look them over,one should match your system. The circuit drawings should help pin down the problem. Chime back in when you fine the one that matches your setup. Could you post the make and model of your backup monitor. That way I might be able to find more info. regarding the wiring required or used to switch the cameras using the turn signal circuit. Rich.

Voltage level is OK. Murphy's Law, maybe just time for the Coffee maker to fail. Can not think of a good reason where the inverter would takeout the circuit board. Some speculation-- The only thing that comes to mind. What is the status of the house batteries? The batteries being low could reduce the voltage from the inverter under a higher load and an increase in current might have been the cause,but one would think that a fuse would have failed inside the coffee maker had that been the case. Was the coach plugged into shore power when the tree took out the power? Power surge could have done some damage to the charger / inverter,but unlikely because the current reading is OK. A good test of loaded power level would be to monitor the voltage from the inverter with the microwave running as the load. What is the voltage? if it is between 112 to 120 volts,the inverter system should be OK. Rich.
