    CB Usage

We have two CBs on a shelf in the basement and another one in the coach. The two in the basement have been laid out for three rummage sales and not sold. The one in the coach has been turned on twice in two years to the weather channel only.
  2. Years ago I had a friend who's face looked like he chased parked cars when he was young. Cause: trying to adjust transmission shifter while under a car supported by a jack, on a rain soaked shoulder. Like Ron White says: You can't fix STUPID.
  3. Robert, If you can determine with some degree of accuracy, where the squeak is--Try spreading the gasket away from the glass enough to spray in some greaseless Teflon spray. Both inside and outside. You don't need a lot, just enough to stop the squeak.
  4. I worked for Navistar in Waukesha, WI back in the 90s. The entire organization is suffering from internal rot. The political environment prevails. I ended up with a new supervisor that had held the SAME position for 19 years. If one did not go along with the management he was quickly ostracized. Example: I outdrove the Manufacturing Manager when I subbed in the Golf League. I was constantly harassed by him by implications at meetings after work hours (and always exonerated) about not performing duties for which I was not responsible. He was (within a year after I quit) fired for losing "too many good people". That facility was subsequently shut down and shipped to Mexico.
  5. Oops, another thought-- the two casinos, one at Bowler and the other at Keshena, both have CGs where you can stay. The one at Bowler is quite nice, with pull-through sites, trees, full hookups (in-season) and transportation to the Casino. The Keshina "CG" is the South end of the parking lot. Aesthetically very unappealing.
  6. Most of the CGs this far North have closed for the season. Freezing weather plays havoc with water lines. You might check with Pine Grove CG west of Shawano off Hwy 29 about 6 miles. Very nice, but might be closed. Same for Tilleda Falls CG--Small, but might be able to boondock. There is a CG on the North end of Shawano Lake (closed for the season?) either city, county or state. Another private CG just north of the Shawano Airport. 40 miles north of Shawano is the Boulder Lake National CG just off highway 55. Might be open for boondocking. High Cliff State Park CG around the east end of Lake Winnebago is probably closed but check it anyway .
  7. Hey W6pea, Just a thought: I was watching Holmes on Homes awhile back and I saw a satellite dish mounted to a 18"x18" patio block. Maybe work for you?? Definitely cheaper than a tripod, more stable, and less likely that someone will walk off with it.
  8. Walgreen's best disolves readily and is a lot less expensive than the highly touted RV tissues. Just use a decent amount of water each time.

    Fuel Mileage

We had a 1996 Georgie Boy Class C (31') with the Ford 460 V8 and towed a 1996 Geo Tracker. We averaged 4.5 MPG. We now have a 1989 Foretravel class A 36' with a 8.2 Detroit Diesel and tow the Geo. We average 8.55 MPG. We have gotten as high as 11.94 MPG coming home from TX with a 30-60 MPH tailwind!!
  10. For what it's worth: We had a screen room for a Class C. Put it up once where we had a leased campsite. Too much hassle, some bugs still got in, wind was a worry, had to take it down wet, took up way too much room, and had a "slight" smell to the fabric and mildew (previous owner put away wet). We have a 12'x12' screenhouse now. We put it up once in the last four years. It went to TX with us twice-never needed-for five months at a time. Unless you are going to camp in the deep woods forget it. You can usually drag the picnic table under your awning and use some bug spray such as Yard Guard if the bugs bother you.
  11. Your fire extinguisher makes a good defense. Just open a window and spray. If the individual does not leave "clunk" him over the head with the canister. Being blinded by the spray and hurting from the clout should discourage anyone. Also, no law against carrying a "loaded" fire extinguisher--in any state or country.
  12. neilcarol, I doubt anyone can help you with just the information you have supplied. Being somewhat familiar with Tiffin coaches I never knew they made engines. What brand is your drivetrain?
  13. On the OP the toad is a Tracker. This means it probably doesn't have any mounting surfaces for magnetic lites that keep the lites out of the airflow and are probably curved surfaces. Not a secure mounting situation!! Utilizing the Tracker's taillights is possible as they are most likely the international type. This will work very simple if his tow vehicle is also international. Only alteration is adding a switch to take the front lights out of the towing circuit. Otherwise the toad headlights will be on and the front turn signals will also operate whenever the running lights are on on the tow vehicle Just a thought: why not mount the magnetic lights inside the back window? Aginst the law? Not wide enough? I've seen them mounted this way.
  14. I didn't mount my light bar in the hitch receiver because I wanted to open the tailgate without having to take the light bar off. I do like Bob's idea of 7 amp fuses in line, although by using a heavy duty drop cord I have three insulated, rubber covered stranded wires enclosed in a tough rubber housing. I have never been comfortable with the crappy four strand flat wire arrangements for sale at places like Walmart. The insulation cracks too easily. With my arrangement I have never had a failure.
  15. I have a '96 Geo Tracker with the convertible top so using magnetic lights on top was not an option, and placing them at waist high level left them open to being knocked off. Also, I wasn't too confident about them staying put. I took off the third light bracket behind the spare tire, welded two small bolts onto the bracket (under the plastic cover) so they stuck out forward toward the rear window. I then made my own light bar using a 4' piece of 3/4" dia aluminum tubing and two standard square LED taillights. I ran the wires down inside the tubing and out near the tailgate hinge. The wire harness drops down and terminates into a flat four connector. I put a mating flat four connector on the end of a heavy duty three wire extension cord with an extra wire for the ground. I fished the wiring thru the frame up to the front, put another connector on the front and then interfaced it with the wiring harness on the tow bar. Removing the light bar consists of removing a wing nut and unplugging the flat four connector. The reason for the two bolts was so one bolt retained the light bar and the other acted as a guide to keep the light bar parallel to the ground. The entire setup works great, removes easily, and lets me open the tailgate without removing the light bar. Neat, clean, and simple.
  16. Statistically the birthrate is probably higher for campers sans TV, especially during rainy seasons!!
  17. Battery under the hood? Easily accessible? Buy a disconnect that mounts on the negative post. The negative cable connects to the post on the disconnect. Turn the disconnect knob counterclockwise to disconnect and clockwise to connect. No sparking, No loose parts. Disconnect available at most auto parts stores.
  18. The old saying that you get what you pay for holds true here. The more amenities the more you pay. The nicer the RV park the more you pay. The closer to popular sites the more you pay. The more popular the RV park the more you pay. So, decide what you want to do, or see, or pay, then go for it! Everyone is different, has different needs or interests. That is why there is such a variety of RV parks.
  19. Maybe you have been "born again" on this site?
  20. Is your Chev Tracker 2-wheel drive automatic? We have its predecessor, the '96 Geo Tracker with the 5-speed manual tranny and only have to put the trans in neutral, disconnect the battery, and put the ignition key in the on position in order to let the steering wheel "float" while towing.
  21. Take your leaf blower to the ducts. At approx 200MPH you should blow out any loose styrofoam. Possibly more will work loose over time thru vibration and bouncing but it should be minimal.
  22. We have grills on the front and back of our Foretravel. I used the stainless steel pieces that are used to mount snaps on boats on the inside of the grills along with stainless bolts and nuts. This put the plaques at eye level to people in autos. NO holes and easy to remove when we trade up.
  23. We purchased an Insignia 23" LED TV from Best Buy five years ago. Three years in our class C and now two years in our class A. No problems whatsoever. Picture is superior to LCD when in bright lit conditions. INsignia is Best Buy's house brand and comes with a warranty that does not care where the set is installed. Bedroom TV is a 15" Dynex LCD. The coach came with two new 15" Dynex TVs and one had quit. (Don't know why. Dealer had removed the set just before we bought the coach) I would recommend buying the LED TVs and save the $ difference. TV technology is constantly being improved and upgrades make a big difference. If you leave the TV out in the cold environment just leave the set warm up to room temperature before turning on. This gives the TV time to dry out from the condensation inside.
  24. There are pros and cons for each length. Consideration must be given for how the coach is used, the owner's needs and tastes. Compromise will probably be necessary in order to completely meet an owner's expectations and method of use.
  25. My '89 Foretravel has HWH levelers and according to the meticulous record keeping by previous owners no problems, no spring replacements with the HWH system since new!! HWH shines in my book!
