Yes Bill it was a work of art, like a Chinese fire drill. The truck was a one ton. On the front was a post wit a ball that the trailer hitch locked into. The pontoons rested on two carpeted rails on each side and the boat was secured with straps. I towed two pontoons on pontoon trailers end to end. Each had a pontoon mounted on top of them. I had a special wiring harness that was operated from the dash with a switch for the running lights and the brake lights and turn signals were connected to the trucks harness. The reason for the separate line for the running lights was that there was too much draw on the head light switch and burned several out before I found the problem. Also since I was running through Arkansas at night and there were several weight station on the Interstate I would switch off the trailer lights as I passed ans then turned them back on when i was clear.

Bill, this can be done however you have to have a frame made for the truck. As I said before, one ton crew cab duelie. Frame is mounted on the back of the bed supports in the front of the bed and supports off the front bumper. It can be narrow where the pontoon sits down over the frame or have rails that the pontoons rest in. Either way it isn't for the weekender. When I had this setup I hauled 5 boats. two pontoon in tandum. each with a pontoon or V bottom on top of each and a pontoon or V bottom on top of the truck. A 14 foot pontoon on top of a 1/2 ton PU is just asking for trouble.

I moved boats for years and it took a one ton, crew cab dually. How are you going to load and unload it? We had to use a lift to both load and unload. I would be very concerned about you toad being top heavy and not being able to control the possible sway. Most states have a 65 foot length limit check to see if you could pull a double. 33 foot coach, 20 foot tow vehicle and a 14 foot boat plus tow bar and tongueand you are somewhere around 70 feet. Might I suggest that when you want to take the Pontoon boat to have the DW drive the tow vehicle and pull the boat and you drive the coach. Herman

Propane Detector Sensitive To Hydrogen?
hermanmullins replied to raifordr's topic in Systems and Appliances
More reasons to being bald, and not carrying pets. -
Ichenkin, Welcome to the Forum. This is just my opinion. Magnetic lights have to be stored when not in use. They have to have long wiring to connected each time tow and removed when you want to drive the toad. Those wires need to be secured to the toad some way so they wont flap in the wind and mark the side of the toad. You can have your lights wired with diodes with just a pigtail under your hood. it will store when not in use and all you have to do open the hood pull out the wire and connect to you toad. By using the diodes your lights will function and not feed back into your harness and possibly cause damage. But they are the best way to go in my opinion. I have wired more then my share of my friends and my cars. Hope this helps.

Propane Detector Sensitive To Hydrogen?
hermanmullins replied to raifordr's topic in Systems and Appliances
And aren't we glad they are. I would rather hear it sound and not find a leak then for it to not sound and there be one. Herman -
John, If you are in the position to replace your dish and you plan to up grade to HD later might I suggest that you look at the three LNB Satellite dish. It is an open dish and can not be used in motion. Bill can tell you which dish taht would be.

1996 Ford Explorer For 4 Wheel Down Towing
hermanmullins replied to concreteman's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
concreteman, Welcome to the Forum. Several thing need to be asked. 1) Is your Explorer four wheel drive? 2) If not you would need a drive shaft disconnect. 3) If so, does it have a neutral position in your transfer case? 4) I don't know if the 96 Explorer had a neutral position or if you have to have the switch kit installed. If so yes you can tow it. I would suggest that you also install or add an auxiliary braking system of some sort. Have the Explorer wire for your lights to connect to the coach. There are several different tow bars on the market as well as Aux. Braking systems. -
John, Welcome to the Forum. Now give it up John, put on some rubber gloves and do the dishes for the DW. It would be a lot less expensive and You don't have to be clamped to the counter and You are easier to store.

Atwood Exterior Panel Takes Flight En Route
hermanmullins replied to andyshane's topic in Systems and Appliances
Andy, On this same subject. If you can safely get on your roof, check your AC covers. I found mine were beginning to have stress cracks around the screws. I was able to put large fender washers on each screw (to have more surface area covered) and have checked several times and have not found any more cracks. Sorry that you lost your cover. I have lost covers in the past and when I got the repacements there was a frame with the cover. Hope you can get covered again. Happy Thanksgiving Herman -

bdantin, Welcome to the Forum. I see that you did replace the cap and the system pressured tested OK. Did you also test the Cap? I just knew that I had a leak in my Aqua-Hot and checked it for some time because I was loosing coolant. My system checked OK with a pressure test. Before I took the tester back to the parts house I tested my cap. It would not hold pressure. So when I returned the tester and got a new cap I tested a new cap and it would not hold pressure either. I tested the second cap and it held pressure fine and now my unit is working fine and is not leaking coolant. So you may want to check your new cap just in case. Good Luck. Herman

Andy, When traveling down the highway it isn't a good idea to have your cordless screw driver laying on the dash. Do you have a remote control for your awning? If so something may have signaled the awning on the remote. May your Holidays always consist of both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Have a Happy and Merry of each. Herman

Bank Refusal to Issue Loan to Montana LLC buyer
hermanmullins replied to repldorsey's topic in Buying an RV
Tim, Funny that you should mention ESSEX Credit. When we bought our current MH we went to ESSEX. They do not make loans per say. However they found us a great interest rate. When I told the dealer that we would be using ESSEX they were a little taken back. They did not know who they were and were reluctant at first. They did change their toon when they received the paper work from Wacovia now Wells Fargo. ESSEX got us 2% less then the dealer found and we got 1 17 year note. ESSEX is really nice to work with. Also you and Beth have a great Thanksgiving and a Wonderful Christmas. Herman -
K, I understand the front air dam but how about the rear? It looks to me that if you get the Mini on the dolly the front end can be as much as 8 to 10 inches up which would lower the rear end. Bumps and dips could damage the rear farings as well. What do you think. Herman

Steve, Welcome to the Forum. Are you talking about the same type of Glass (laminated) that they used to have in Autos? I always thought that the reason for double pane windows was insulation. If you are talking about two sheets of glass with the film in between I am not sure there would be much insulation. Let me know if I am misinformed. Thanks Herman

Location Battery Cut-off Switch Fleetwood Expedition
hermanmullins replied to HMillsJr's topic in Electrical
Jr. Most MH have switches in the Battery compartment. There is also a Battery switch in the entrance area. List the Year of your Fleetwood Exp. Then someone with your coach can give you better information. Good Luck Herman -
Sorry I thought you meant that you just had property in Texas. If you are interested in Central Texas, I have several friends that have lots in the Lake Whitney area with Homes with RV covers. They seem to have the best of both worlds. Along the Coast there are a lot of RV Communities where folks have lots and live in their RV but also travel. Several years ago we bought some land in the Whitewright area where there was a mobile home. We built a barn to house the RV and we keep it there. We plan to retire there this next year. We will build there after we travel for a short time. There should be something for you out there. Keep looking and Good Luck Herman

SEETON, All of your question depend on where you live now. Check for nearby lakes for Developments that offer RV Lots. Again where are you located. If you live in Up State New York it is hard for someone in El Paso to help. Give a little more information and there will be someone in your area that can help. Good Luck, Herman

Jim, Welcome to the Forum. On a 99 454 you have fuel injection of some kind. All fuel injected engines require an electric fuel pump (most are in the Gas tank). They have a fairly high pressure. There is a connector on your fuel line that you can check the pressure. If you do not have pressure or have low pressure the engine will not run. There are two solutions to this. One you can have the pump in the gas tank replaced. Two you can have a external electric fuel pump added close to the tank. (most electric fuel pumps push the fuel rather then pull the fuel). I opt for replacing the pump in the tank. Herman

bandnmak, If you have a propane heater you can run it without the generator on for a while. The fan is 12 volts and will run on your batteries. But you will need to start your generator from time to time to charge your batteries. I hope you put your coach up with full tanks so you can have enough fuel to get you through the storm. Hope you and your family are OK. All FMCA members are remembering you folks in their prayers.

Mdawdy 712, Welcome to the Forum. If you have a steerable tow dolly you do not need to have your steering wheel unlocked. If I understand most all dollys have steerable wheels. Herman -
2006 Trail Blazer Battery Dying
hermanmullins replied to ambyn's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Tom, Does pulling those two fuses effect your EMC? If so wouldn't a Battery disconnect work just as well? If it doesn't effect the EMC when you have to pull the fuses then there would be no need for the disconnect. Another thought. Could you wire in a double pole single throw switch that would be the same as pulling the fuses and you wouldn't have to get into the fuse panel each time. You could put fuses in line to protect the circuit. Herman
