  1. buttons, I both agree and disagree with you. If you have insurance on you auto and RV you will most likely have towing. That I agree with you on. However on that night when your wide is out on the road and has a flat on her car she can call your roadside assistance and they will come out to change the tire bring her fuel or help unlock her car. When you are in your RV out between Rockspring and Cheynne, WY and have a flat you can get someone to come out and fix or replace your tire. We have had both Good Sams and Coach Net. Thankfully I have only had to the service, Coach Net, one time. However for the company to come out was so far away that I called Coach Net back and told them that it would be very hard for the service to come in less the 4 hours and that I would call someone in town. They said that would be fine and to send them the service call bill. They sent me a check by return mail. So you see there are good point to having extra coverage Good luck, Herman
  2. John, Welcome to the Forum. Please understand that there are so many other Benefits with FMCA. I liketo think of it as the name implys. "Family Motor Coach Association" putting the importance on "Family". We have gotten so much more out of FMCA then perks. We have made loving and dear friends from being members of seveal Chapters. There are so many times in our life that we have had to give up things just to get by and that is why FMCA has had to make some cuts. I myself would rather have the wonderful staff in Cincinnati keep their jobs and continue to give the membership the great service then to have one of the medical plans. So Please don't give up on FMCA. Hope you stay with FMCA and continue to have wonderful trips. Herman
  3. There are several V Parks in Custer and one or two in Rapid City. Both close to Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse. Mount Rushmore several years ago cost $15.00 and was good for a year. Crazy Horse was too expensive then for us. Herman
  4. Does Atwood have a fix for this? It may just be something a simple as a spring that is off or broken. But give them a call. Herman
  5. cwschnepf, How old is your Ice Maker? I had the same problem with our coach and replaced the Ice Maker and solved all my problems. Larry, I believe all RV Refrigerator will not fill once the ignition is turned on. One thing I have done since I installed my new Ice Maker is to turn off the water solenoid valve to the IM when we are about to begin the last leg of a trip. This will allow the ice to clear the tray but not refill with water. That away when we dump the ice I don't have water standing in the Ice Maker. Herman
  6. Andy, give these folks a look see: Hutson Insurance Group. Kim or Joy can give you a quote. 710 East Park Blvd. Plano, TX 75074 972-398-9001 www.thehutsongroup,con Herman
  7. After thought. Any time you have a tire problem keep your tire. You may never know when you may have to prove the failure of the tire. Tire mfg. always want you to provide proof. Don't leave it at the store and expect them to keep it for you. Herman
  8. dbtoytrains, Welcome to the Forum. What does his insurance Company say? Herman
  9. 10-4 New one coming out. You might get the feeling that they said lets put it out and after a year go back and fix the problems. Buy the newest unit out for $380.00 and a year later you can spend $380.00 again and get the up new and improved model. Wouldn't it be nice if they gave you a nice trade-in on the first model for the new and inmproved model. Just a thought and wishful thinking. Have a good one. Herman
  10. Bill, I think that is a problem with a lot of GPS units. Does any one make an anti-glare cover for such a small screen? I did take one of my units and made a tunnel like cover and reduced some of the glare. One of my units has a small puck like antenna extension and I can put the GPS down low but then its hard to see without taking your eyes off the road and look for it. Herman
  11. Since this is a topic on door latches let me relate a problem with our dead bolt on our Dynasty. We pulled in to get fuel, on our way to Rockport and for some reason the dead bolt was locked. When I tried to open the door the dead bolt knob would turn but not the bolt. So I had to go out the window. Now to get out of the window I went out feet first and was doing fine until I got my belly over the window ledge. At that point it was not very graceful. Now back to the door. I was able to pull back the trim on the door and was able to see the dead bolt. I got my pocket knife and was able to push the bolt back and got the door open. What happened was the dead bolt was modified at the factory to add length so the lock could be placed further back then in a standard door. The bolt was pinned with a roll pin and the roll pin broke. I was able to get a new pin and repaired the dead bolt. I hope this helps anyone that may have this problem, hope you don't. Herman
  12. To all that may have had a broken door latch or fear that their may break, give this company a look: RB Machining/RV Div www.motorhomelatches.com. They do storage door latches and may also do door latches. Good luck to all.
  13. See Lyle, even in Iowa you can teach an old dog new tricks. Glad it worked out for you. Herman
  14. Tom, I noticed in your pictures that it looks as if you went through the drivers side window?? Also on the Norcold 1200 icemaker when the ignition on the coach is on the ice maker will not operate. This is to keep water from going into the ice maker and sloshing out and making a block of ice worthy of a beer cooler. Do you have a problem with that on your residential box? FYI, I just changed our ice maker because of several problems. What I have started doing is disconnecting the hot wire to the ice maker the day we will be returning home. This will allow the ice maker to clear the frozen ice but not fill with water. (I plan on installing a switch for this.)When we get close to home the wife dumps the ice in the toilet. A little scrubbing and a dry ice maker. Herman
  15. Brett, I have already found a set at a salvage yard for $25.00 each. They are on a 1993 BMW 325. They will be my second choice. Will keep you posted. Herman
  16. I just got the information back from the supplier of the head lights for Hella that provided the lights for my Dynasty. www.ssterlingco.com. I sent Chris pictures of my head lights and he came back saying that they had the units in stock and could ship right away. $289.00 per side. I think I will try the 3M kit Bill spoke of. Before and After pictures to follow. Herman
  17. Good to know Bill. The kit I got was just a small buffing wheel and some compound. Can you step me through the process? What grit did you start with, wet or dry? What grit did you finish with and did you then use a polish of some sort? As I said the kit I used wasn't worth the money and I should not have condimed all kits. Herman
  18. Try some of your local audio stores. They have the rolled sound proofing you may need. Radio Shack may also be a place to look. The main thing to be alert for is Fire Rating. Being under the dog House there is a great deal of heat. Caution, Caution, Caution.
  19. .006 X 6 tires = .036 total. The seat in your Windsor is a lot more sensitive then most. I am going to look to see if there any truck tire dealers in North Texas that has a truing machine. Herman
  20. I have been in contact with Hella. They asked for pictures of my lights and after seeing the pictures they informed me that the lens can not be sold separately and that the head lights on my coach are made by BMW. I went on Craigslist and found a 1993 BMW 325 that had the same head lights. I will go and look at them after I take some measurements. The cost $25.00 each. Will let you know how they work out. Herman
  21. Brett, from what I hear, "Knee Deep" is and understatement.
  22. Side note to traveling with friends. Be sure the person leading has a DW that can read a map, knows when the GPS it is right and when it is wrong. Been the and done that, it makes for some senic trips and bad roads. Herman
  23. Gypsea, Welcome to the Forum and RVing. Tom has the right idea. One day at a time. When we got our first coach we made lots of mistakes. The biggest being going full bore to the destination and back. We would drive 450 to 500 miles a day and die that night and do it all over the next day. We now set a distance we want to go in one day. It's now 200 to 250 miles. That gives us time to stop and see the sights. When we get to a place of interest we stay 2 nights. We spend the night take the next day to visit the local area and relax. The next day we do the same thing again. I think we need to change what RVing means, not Recreational Vehicle, but Relaxing and Visiting. So go on your trip. Relax, visit the sights. You will meet so many wonderful people along the way. Herman
  24. Glen, Welcome to the Forum. More information is needed to answer your question. 1. Where are you located? 2. What kind of coach do you drive, "A", "B", "C"? You will get lots of answers when you give this info. Good Luck, Herman
