  1. Steve & Sue, Welcome to the Forum. If you are able to unlock the steering wheel by just putting in the key you have a good thing. You might want to put in an extra auxiliary plug receptacle for your Brake Buddy. It could be wired streight into you coach power and only be active when you are connected.(be sure to put in an inline fuse) With this you could leave your ignition off with just the key in. One other thing, you might want to have your battery tested to see if it may be on the down side of its life. If you do have to replace your battery you might look for a higher Amp Hour unit. Just my thoughts. Hope they help.
  2. Skyking 8 Tires? Everyone has their preferance. Last year I needed to replace 5 of my 8 tires. The coach had GoodYear G670 RV's. The previous owner had replaced three for some reason.(I will replace them next year). The store where I got my tires has been in our town for 50 years and is highly respected for their knowledge. Ronnie had the G670's to match what I had. The price was good and he got me with the GoodYear rep. and I got a rebate of $50.00 per tire. So far I have been pleased with the tires. We have driven about 5,000 miles with out any trouble. We have a 40 ft. Monaco and run 90 psi. front and 95 psi in the rear. It has a smooth ride and handles well. GoodYear has a wed site "GoodYear Rv Tires". Even if you don't go with them it has a pdf file on tires and tire maintance that is realy good. Good luck and smooth RVing.
  3. When I was in the boating industry we had problems with several boat gas tanks. Several of the manufactures put in 20 gallon tanks where they had 16 gallon tanks before. What happened was the fill neck hose had to go up to the top of the tank and created a very slow filling. They solved the problem by going back to the 16 gallon tank. I believe what you are saying about the sagging hoses would create the same problem. Signed Pinoccho
  4. rhale and NavyDad89, welcome to the forum. rhale, try going on the web and looking for RV Salvage Companies. There may be one in your area or any where that might have the doors you need. Be sure and have the mesurements of your old doors so they can check sizes. Hope this helps.
  5. Are you refering to my Pinocchio Nose? Sorry it took so long for me to respond but I had to find out what Proboscis ment. Yep, it is big. I don't know if it is from getting older or some of the stories I may have told? Keep up the good mechnical answers to the forum.
  6. Bob, Being color blind should not be a problem. Take a picture of the panel. Give each switch an alpha letter designation. As you remove the wires from each component and give each one the alpha letter of the component and a number (B-1, B-2 and so on). Draw a sketch of the back of each component to show where each wire goes. Then you can remove the panel for duplication. You will need to do this even if you find a replacement panel. Good luck on your search.
  7. Yes I use the M G Eng. Brake unit. They are just North of Athens, TX on Hwy 19. They have 2 priced units. New with a life time warrenty and a remanufactured unit with a 5 year warrenty. It is a very simple unit but works great. We pull a Yukon LX and before we put on the MG I had no problems pulling but really noticed the weight when we stoped.

Don't even know it there with the MG.

  8. Bill & Brett both have the correct Idea. If you are now filling your tires to 120 psi because it is written on the tire then you need to step back and evaluate your load. Have all four corners weighed. Then look on your tire mfg site for their tire chart to find the recommended psi. Do you have the recommended pressures on your information sticker in your coach? It should be somewhere close to your VIN No. That will give you some indication of the correct PSI-- based on each axle at its GAWR (Gross Axle Weight Rating). That may or may not be close to your actual weight. I think once you fill your tires to the correct PSI(which should be lower then 120 psi)you will think you have a different coach with a softer & better ride.
  9. Tom, Like everyone has said before, Welcome to FMCA and the FORUM You and your wife are just the folks that FMCA needs. Thank you for joining and pointing out a great problem with FMCA. Back in 1963 (I believe), several families got together to camp out, look at the stars and have a time with family and friends. It was started by families for families. But sadly it has moved to older empty nesters. You will see it mentioned many times the need to recruit new members, in the magazine. We don't need new members; we need new families. Here is a suggestion. Each month look in the magazine for Rallies in your area. Go visit. You will have a great time and your children will acquire many new grandparents. Every time someone brings children and or grandchildren, the other members go Ga Ga over them. My point of making several rallies is to see how it's done. Then look around your area of FL and try to find families just like yourselves and get together and form a chapter for people with children still at home. You could start a new trend for FMCA and get it back to what it started for: Families. If I may be of any help don't hesitate to message me and I will be glad to help in any way I can. Thanks, again, for joining and making us older folks remember what is really important: Family.
  10. Ours had a problem. I left the gray water gate open when we went for a cruise and now its at the bottom of Lake Texoma. Also it is really hard to dump when anchored. It also got a little top heavy when we opened the slide. Happy cruising, I mean RVing.
  11. You will have no problem in yout 40 footer. I have traveled this route many time but was in a car. However when leaving Las Cruces on 70 you will travel through the White Sands Missle Range. Some times, if they are having a test, you might have to wait for an hour or so. You will go through Alamogordo. Beautilful city. Next you will go through Tularosa. Small town where you turn right (East). You will go through the Medcalero Indian Reservation. If you can stop and visit the church there. Sorry I can't remember the name but it has a great history. Then into Rudioso, nice town, race track and casinos. Then on to Roswell. All of the roads are very good. There are some curves but none that are very sharpe. It is a nice trip with lots to see. Have a nice trip.
  12. As said before "CONGRATULATIONS" on 50 years. You married a twofer, one a Marine as your self and two she must have been Irish to marry you on Saint Patricks Day. You will never have any snake in your house. Again, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY.
  13. Check Tom Butler's post in Coach Modifications: Replacing Analog TV with Flat Screen LCD Saves Space and Weight. Good post with pictures.
  14. We all have had not so pleasant visits to RV Parks. We all like to vent. Venting is good for the soul. However sometimes we jump before we think ( I am guilty of this more then once). Before we trash a Park or Resort we need to check out if we or the park is at fault. A good place to start is www.reparkreviews.com. See what other think about the Park or Resort. As for Cordele RV Park in Cordele, GA, the only negatives were that they didn't have Cable TV and not family friendly. That part could be up for question since one review spoke about the playground. Therefore we all need to see if it was ourselves or the Park that was the problem.
  15. ahicks, Welcome to the FORUM. Towing a vehicle might affect mileage by less then 1/4 to 1/2 miles per gallon. Weight that against the cost of a rental for say 3 days. Most of your coast is up front. Tow Bar, Base Plates, Wiring the tow vehicle and a braking unit. If you already have a vehicle that can be towed 4 down just look for bars and plates to fit it. If you don't have such a vehicle then I might suggest that you look into trading for a vehicle you can tow and also use as a first or second family vehicle. Many vehicles can be towed 4 down (check the towing chart in this web site for year and make of vehicle :rolleyes) and most can be made to tow with pumps or drive shaft disconnects. As I said the mileage is not really the factor.
  16. But just think of all the thing you did find that you didn't know were lost. One of the really bad thing about auto dial is nobody can remember phone numbers any more.
  17. jimpat Do you have a gas detector? It may have detected an oder and shut off your gas. See if you have a reset on the unit. Then check for leaks. It may have saved your life and your coach. Good luck
  18. ahicks, Welcome to the forum. Using a toilet like you have in your home has several problems. 1) tank holds 1.5 to 3 gallons of water and you use it all used each time you flush. 2) water in tank will splash out when you are moving. Using a toilet made for an RV will use about a 2 to 3 pints of water per flush. Check how much fresh water the RV you are looking at holds and divide it by 1.5 and see how many flushes you have even before you have made coffee, washed dishes and or showered. The only problem I have besides replacing seals is how low the seat is.
  19. New Story. We were in San Antonio for a rally. Sunday morning we are all saying our good byes. I go to move in my slides. Back comes in fine. Front NOTHING. I tested every circuit in the coach checked every relay. Tested the switch. By now I am Very frustrated. I am telling all of our friends to go on, I've call for the RV man. Being frustrated I begin to put up all my tools, put everything back where it belongs and close all bay doors. The one under the slide didn't close the way I thought it should so I SLAMMED IT. Then I SLAMMED it again. I got back in the coach to wait. So just for kicks I try the slide again. In comes the slide. I called and canceled the service call. It's seems that there is a kill switch on the door to keep the slide from opening or closing and damaging the door if it is open. New lesson learned. Get mad and slam doors, it helps and sometimes solves the problem.
  20. Wayne, Are you talking about Admiralty RV Resort, in San Antonio? There were no Premium Sites. No pond. All sites are past the office and none had two pads. We must be talking about two different parks. Still it's good to hear from you. Herman
  21. To all that have read and responded to this post, THANK YOU. I have always gone out of my way to follow the rule, "If you do something wrong, I will tell you and If you do something GOOD, I will tell the world." This time I told the managers what was wrong and now I am telling the world. YES there are some great RV parks all over the place. Some big and some small but they all do what is necessary to make your visit pleasant. A few that I know: Shallow Creek, Gladewater, Texas. They can make Good BBQ Canton Civic Center, Canton, Texas (for rallies) Coffee Creek RV Resort, Santos, Texas. Great family. Hill Country RV Resort, New Braunfels, Texas KOA Durant, Durant, OK. Charlie will bend over backwards for you. Ceder Oaks RV Park, Grove, Oklahoma. A little dusty some times but nice park and people.
  22. We just had a rally at Admiralty RV resort. The park is very old. They had plenty of spaces but they were very narrow. The ladies at check-in were very nice. However, the manager was a total jerk. If you don't come into their registration area correctly they jump you and tell you that you must move your coach or they will not register you. One of our members drove the wrong direction in the park and was jumped on by the manager and then banned from the park for life. The manager's feelings are, if you don't like it lump it. Members of the Board of Directors for Lone Star Chapter decided that they are on our do-not-stay list. Our chapter paid the park close to $4,000 for the spaces. Now they will never get another penny from Lone Star. When asked who the owner of the park was, I was told "I'm the manager." I then said, "Who owned the park" and was told "the owner doesn't want to talk to you." If I was him I would not want guests talking to the owner, either. Enough said. Bad park.
  23. We tow a 2003 GMC Yukon XL. It has the same weight as your Suburban. We have a 10,000 pound rated Blue Ox. I don't think I would tow that weight with your MH. Road trip fine, Safety First. Good Luck
  24. If I understand your post the Rubber Gasket that holds the window in the coach leaks. The double U rubber gasket has become hard and will not seal the window from leaking water into the coach. Measure the window and while you are camping look at other coaches to see if they have the same size window. Then check with the mfg. of their coach to see if they can still provide the rubber seal. In the mean time have you tried Clear Silicone completely around the window on the out side? You might check with companies that refurbish coaches where they may have removed your size window and still have the gasket.
