  1. Bob, You say: "... the temperature on the inside of the refrigerator has been dropping" And then: Now the refrigerator is barely keeping temps of 41 deg. on gas". Is it a problem with the refrigerator being too cold or hot? Has it been defrosted lately (i.e. less than 1/8" of ice on the freezer plates? Have you checked the door gaskets (dollar bill test)? What is the outside temperature? That side of the coach facing the sun? Brett
  2. Excellent. Thanks for letting us know. Brett
  3. Brad, Welcome to the FMCA Forum. I suggest you contact the RV's lien holder and ask THEM how to handle the transaction such that you get clear title when you pay-- if it is local, no problem-- just go there to finalize the transaction. If the lien holder is out of town your bank may be of assistance in this as well once you determine from lien holder the payoff as of closing date (also note WHO you talked with and WHEN). It is not uncommon to have your bank initiate a draft for clear title-- you pay your bank the money and they handle the transaction. Brett
  4. The PSI increases .48 psi for every 1,000 feet increase in altitude. So, PSI increase at 9,000' due to altitude would be around 4.5 PSI. Tire inflation PSI increases 2% with a temperature increases 10° F. With the cooler temperatures at altitude, it is quite possible that PSI will decrease at high elevations. Brett
  5. Yes, we will be in Redmond. I have little doubt that someone in the high tech industry (as texnet is) can piece together a setup that will work just fine for less money. BUT, for those like me who want a "plug and play" solution, this one works great-- in fact I am on it right now in a small CG in the CA wine country. Brett
  6. Different tire manufacturers style their PSI/load charts differently-- you will need to look at your tire manufacturer's chart and its description. If it is not clear to you, post what tire brand and size you have. And just like the front axle (two tires) the tag axle would be treated the same. BUT, remember, tire pressure is based on ACTUAL weight, not GAWR. It is very unusual for a tag axle to carry its full GAWR! Brett
  7. Only two possible sources of water from the dash A/C: Evaporator condensate from clogged drain or cracked/loose case. Condensation external to the ducts. You should be able to determine the source between these. If condensation external to the ducts, insulate the ducts. If from the evaporator case, start by sucking (NOT blowing) on the condensate drain using a long clear plastic hose extension. If you blow to clear and there is a clog, all you will do is temporarily relocate it within the evaporator and it will likely re-clog very soon. Brett
  8. Generator or shore power should be the same in terms of effect on battery voltage-- both power the batteries through the same charger or inverter/charger. Here is how I would proceed: With engine off, 120 VAC off (generator and shore power off), have someone activate the slide while you use a digital voltmeter to check at TWO PLACES. Check at the battery. Check at the slide motor. This will help determine if the issue is weak batteries or a problem with an inadequately sized cabling from batteries to slide motor, poor connections, etc. If the voltage at the battery stays good (12.0 VDC or above) but at the slide motor drops more than about .3 VDC below battery reading, check connections and/or cable sizing. Brett
  9. At that battery age, I HIGHLY recommend replacing all at the same time. The problem is if one battery fails (say, one cell dies) after replacing some of them, it will signal the charger (voltage will show low) to stay at full charge voltage which will well OVER-charge the new batteries. Brett
  10. Welcome to the FMCA Forum. Your chassis maker is the one who wired your exhaust brake switch. Contact them with your chassis number. Brett
  11. Ron, Yes, that fitting is driven by our engine-mounted compressor, then goes through the air dryer, so it is "good air". As long as the PSI you need is below the cut-out PSI of your on-board air system, you can use it instead of carrying an additional compressor. Brett
  12. As said above, Atwood neither recommends nor sells anodes for their water heaters, though as you discovered, there are aftermarket products offered. Assuming the anode material is less noble than the aluminum tank, the primary negative is that many anodes use steel threads. Steel threads can easily damage the aluminum threads of the tank. Proper application of teflon tape or potable water pipe dope lessens the likelihood of damage. Brett
  13. Water will not necessarily come out when you remove the hose at the pump. Often the tank is installed below the level of the pump. The pump is self priming. First thing to look at is whether there is any air in the inlet hose. Is there any air in the water coming out the faucets? If so, check hose connection at tank and at pump. Also, the on-pump filter gasket. Basically, you are looking for an air leak on the suction side between tank and pump. And are you sure that the water level is indeed 1/2 when you start getting the problem-- could it be very low, yet the tank gauge indicates more water in the tank than there is? Brett
  14. James, Welcome to the FMCA Forum. Go to your tire manufacturer's website and look at their Load/PSI chart for your tires. THEY are the ultimate authority, not a local tire dealer. he answer is that you hope that your tire dealer is way wrong. If he is correct, it would mean you are loading the tires to their maximum carrying capacity. Said another say, your tires have no safety reserve capacity. The Load/PSI chart shows the MINIMUM PSI for a given weight. Most recommend adding 5 PSI to that minimum based on heavier wheel position on each axle with all tires on an axle having the same PSI based on heaver wheel position. Add 10 PSI (as long as it does not exceed tire or wheel specs) if all you have is axle weights. No one can give you accurate advice without knowing the actual weights. Brett
  15. Welcome to the FMCA Forum. Hopefully, someone with first hand experience will respond. You might also contact Remco-- they are quite knowledgeable: http://www.remcotowing.com/ You might also talk with a Range Rover mechanic who can tell you what mechanical changes have been made that prevent the newer models from being towing 4 wheels down. Brett
  16. Before removing the drain plug (Nylon on Atwood/Anode on Suburban) turn off shore water, turn off the on-board water pump AND OPEN A FAUCET TO DRAIN OFF ALL PRESSURE. Removal of the drain plug will cause the stored water in the tank to come out, but should NOT be under real pressure. Brett

  18. Your chassis manufacturer speced the whole cooling system-- the engine manufacturer merely gives heat rejection requirements. So, contact your chassis manufacturer for the "best" answer. Brett
  19. OK, let's take this from the top: Tire pressure as posted on the GVWR plaque (coach manufacturer): States correct tire pressure FOR AXLES LOADED TO THE POSTED GAWR. PERIOD. If your actual weight is above or below that weight, the PSI recommendation DOES NOT APPLY. And remember, this is for the OE tires. Newer tires may have different PSI recommendations for that GAWR. Michelin (and all other tire manufacturer) inflation charts-- state MINIMUM PSI for a given weight. If you have individual wheel position weights, the recommendation is to add 5 PSI to that MINIMUM, based on heavier wheel position on each axle-- all tires on an axle to have the same PSI. If all you have is axle weights (so you are assuming equal left/right weight distribution), the recommendation is to add 10 PSI to the minimum on the tire chart assuming this does not exceed the tire or wheel maximums. And, you did well to "redistribute" weight given the overweight axle. And I agree with Tom, it is a good idea to have your tire pressure gauge calibrated. Most tire stores have high quality pressure gauges on their air systems and will happily let you look at their gauge and then see what your gauge reads on their air system. Brett
  20. Peggy, Anode life in your Suburban water heater depends on several factors, including mineral content of water, how much you use the water heater, etc. It is a good idea to check it annually.
  21. I got both-- use 120 VAC when on shore power, 12 VDC when dry camping. Brett
  22. Welcome to the FMCA Forum. From the Texas Attorney General's Website: http://www.oag.state.tx.us/consumer/buying_car.shtml From the Texas Motor Vehicle Commission: http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/...s/TT/mdtfa.html Brett
  23. To help us stay connected while on the road, I researched Wi-Fi boosters and antennas. This setup looked like it would do the trick -- the Wave WiFi Rogue: http://www.landandseawifi.com/products/wavewifi-rogue I installed it last week, just before we left on our trip. Well, two days into the trip, we got a chance to check it out. We were in a park in the panhandle of Texas. Fired up the computer -- no wireless networks detected by Windows Vista. After setting up the Wave Rogue antenna and plugging it into the booster, nine Wi-Fi hotspots came right up. Several were open (non-encrypted) and we were able to get right to the Internet. Less powerful antenna/boosters may help in campgrounds with weak signals, but this one also pulls in hot spots from miles away. We got on to an open hotspot in a coffee shop at least two miles away. I was impressed. I debated on a permanent mount, but decided it was too much of a compromise -- high enough to clear the rooftop obstructions like A/Cs and it would be a "tree trimmer." Low enough that it would not have clearance problems, and the antenna would not have a clear line of sight over roof-mounted obstructions. So, I mounted the antenna on the top of a expandable pole (got it at Home Depot in the paint section). Drilled a hole down low and about half way up the lower section so I can put a bolt and wing nut and secure it in U-shaped mounts on the side of the coach (from Zip Dee -- same as our awnings). The pole collapses to fit across the basement and extends to place the antenna above the roof. I routed the Cat 5 ethernet cable up from the basement to my "work station" and left enough in the basement that it can be erected without connecting/disconnecting. Takes less than one minute to erect/stow. The booster operates on either 120 VAC or 12 VDC. The user interface and documentation on the Wave Rogue are TOP-NOTCH. It took me less than five minutes after plugging it in the first time to pull up all the hot spots in the area, determine which were encrypted, and find a coffee shop with a good signal and get online. Tire Temperature

I forwarded this thread to my contact at Michelin. Here is the response: A tire in operation will heat up until it reaches its equilibrium temperature where the heat being generated equals the heat being dissipated. The temperature of the tire will increase with an increase in ambient temperature. There is nothing to worry about in the ranges stated, if the temperature gets above 250 degrees F then I would be concerned ! Brett
  25. Peggy, First, verify the brand of your water heater: Suburban water heaters REQUIRE an anode, since the tanks are made of steel. Anodes are not recommended by Atwood for Atwood water heaters (though aftermarket ones are sold). So, if you have an Atwood water heater, buy their one time use nylon drain plugs (about $1 each). If a Suburban, any RV store will have the anode/drain plug. Brett
