  1. Please note that it was run from an alternate fuel supply as well. Fuel does not appear to be the issue. I would suspect that it is something related to a sensor such as a faulty low oil sensor.
  2. If you were asking me, no, I was referring to Heart Ranch in Rapid City, SD. http://www.hartranchresort.com/ This is not a terribly convenient location.
  3. Last year we visited the area and stayed at Heart Ranch. We found this to be a mistake as it really is too far away from everything and makes sightseeing a much longer days trip than necessary. The last time we visited we stayed at the Mount Rushmore KOA which has a much better location. As mentioned above there are several campgrounds available in the area and you may find that no one will cover everything conveniently. It depends upon where you want to go and what you want to see. If I return any time soon I think I will stop at the KOA again as it's close to the conveniences of town in one direction and close to many attractions in the other.
  4. You may be looking for information about food on-site as well. There is plenty of lunch foods available but the vendors and displays close at 5:00pm so the number of food sources available in the evening is greatly reduced. These will mostly be food cart vendors and there should be a variety of foods available.
  5. M&G number one but not available for all cars. SMI Air Force One number two but works with any vehicle (I believe).
  6. It wasn't that way when this businessman was running his business. Only the the long arm of the Government stepped in and made a perfectly good business go out of business. Thanks Uncle Sam!
  7. I just want to see the set of tires that is capable of going not only the regular mileage expectation (usually in the 80,000 mile range) plus another 150,000 miles! Apparently N2 also prevents friction between the rubber and the road. I did not know that!
  8. That's a tough (and IMHO, outdated) policy. I wonder how many people would be distracted from going to Gillette, WY who wished to attend a rally in Berrien Springs, MI? A few might have wanted to do both and there was plenty of time for that. However, I suspect that 75% of the GLASS rally participants come from any area less than 400 miles and would likely not travel the extra 700 miles to make Gillette. It appears to be a non-issue at this point so I am likely beating a dead horse, but maybe future decisions should be made based upon distance from the event. If the Rally is in OR I don't see why a rally in VT should be prohibited.
  9. I MUCH prefer a gravity dump just for the speed and ease. Connect, dump and leave all in 10 minutes or less. The macerators take a long time to chew things up and send them down that small tube to the drain. If you camp a long way from the dump (or home sewer clean out) of if you plan to camp downhill from that dump (very rare occurrence) you might find some benefit from this kind of system. Many claim that it's a cleaner option but I am not sure how much cleaner you can get than the 3" hose and a good connection at each end. I would really hate to be at a Flying J or other public dump site and make everyone else wait while I let my grinder grind.
  10. A little bit about Mike: Mike is a veteran journalist who recently bought a Roadtrek RS-Adventurous Type B motorhome. With his wife, Jennifer, and Norweigian Elkhound, Tai, he travels the country blogging about the people, places, joys and frustrations of RV life on the road. He is the official on-the-road reporter for the Family Motor Coach Association. a columnist with Family Motor Coach magazine and his Roadtreking reports appear in numerous newspapers and publications. Obviously, you can live just fine in a small RV for as long as you choose. We have very good friends who sold their bigger RV and bought a Winnebago based on the Sprinter chassis. They are full-timers and live year-round in the RV including Winters in Mexico. I would expect you to be able to dry camp or use campgrounds as you choose. Dumping will certainly not be (and should not be) and everyday thing but you will need to monitor your usage to determine how long it take to fill your tanks. I think you already know the answer to the questions you ask but do keep us up-to-date as you add additional posts to your blog.
  11. Just a note on cleaning the D/S disconnect with WD-40. Of all the things in the World that will attract and hold dirt/dust, etc, WD-40 is among the top. It is an excellent cleaner and I use if for that same purpose as well. However, once I am done cleaning I like to clean off the cleaner with something else to get rid of the WD-40. I usually use a dry silicone spray which leaves no residue behind and keeps everything moving extremely well. I got that tip from REMCO themselves at their factory and then again from Blue OX as that's how they recommend cleaning their tow bar as well.
  12. I guess things are much better these days. I had 100,000 miles on the speedometer and I had towed it another 100,000+ in the last 8 years without issue. Yes, I did clean the coupler a couple of times over the years if it got difficult to put in gear but we never had and clunking like you describe while it was in gear.
  13. Just be sure you don't send any money! Fly or drive where ever you like and promise whatever they want you to do so, but there so are many RV scams on the internet that sending money to an unknown recipient will often result in the money disappearing and the RV simply not existing! We have even seen our friends RV listed for sale. When we called they knew nothing of what we spoke. Someone had simply stolen the pictures and posted the unit for sale.
  14. Washbob, It that correct information listed above? Do you really stop while you are traveling every 20-30 minutes?
  15. The disconnect is great and if anyone is telling you how theirs performed 12 years ago you might want to look for some updated information. I have used the REMCO disconnect on 3 different vans and I am now waiting for my new disconnect to be built for my new 2012 Chevy Express Van. This is a replacement for my 2004 Chevy Express Van which I used the disconnect successfully (and easily) for 8 years. I would just suggest that you use your parking brake any time you are parked on a hill just for an added bit of security. Here's why I am replacing my 2004 with a 2012: http://www.datastorm...2/t/000401.html REMCO has been sold and the new company is having a hard time keeping up with demand as, apparently, only one guy builds the actual disconnects so it can take months to have one built and shipped.
  16. I agree with Brett. If the second GFCI was on a completely different circuit from the first then you need to be looking toward the fridge as the source of the problem.
  17. Try running an extension cord from the fridge to something like the pedestal outside or another plug on a different circuit. If you still have an issue you have a big issue. If the issue disappears you may have a faulty GFCI or an issue downstream of the plug.
  18. What is being referenced above might be confusing to the casual user (reader). You "can" make a cheater box work if you do some custom wiring to your coach and your box. For the 99.99% of the rest of us, the reality is that a production cheater box will not work with a production coach 50 amp circuitry.
  19. Hard to sell snake oil when you have solid science that disputes all of the claims!
  20. I doubt that your setup can be translated into usable information for any other RVer. Since you did your own coach conversion to make your 30 amp coach use 50 amp and since you built your own "cheater box" to work with the system you designed, it's unlikely that a production cheater box would work as you describe with an RV with a production 50 amp service.
  21. As mentioned above, CA will absolutely ticket you if you exceed 65' overall length (if you happen to run into someone who cares). There have been some Prevost owners who have been ticketed as it's difficult, if not impossible, to tow a full-sized vehicle with a 45' RV and not exceed the 65' limit. This is the same State that did not allow RV's over 40' on any side road and when they made the 45' the legal length they did not follow up making the towed limit longer.
  22. Standard and free? I'm in!
