As Richard stated, would be nice if you included your unit information in you signature line. Always nice to reply to a proper configuration. Different manufactures treat the charging of systems somewhat differently. Winnebago has a Trik-l-charg system but it will only charge the batteries when both disconnects are in the ON position. So go figure, eh? Also my last MH only had a 600 watt inverter and if the steps were left in the on position it would drain the batteries even if plugged in. You can't go wrong with an automatic charger hooked up to your service batteries but you need to find out if you can charge service and house batteries at the same time.

Prior to MH's I had a 5er with two AC's. I used to plug into the 120v line in the garage. I could run one roof top AC but if I turned on a vacuum cleaner it would blow the breaker. So any time we wanted to clean it up we would cool it down and then turn it off to vacuum.

Attaching FMCA Membership Plate to Motorhome

I fully understood you. I had seen that same information from last Spring. I was surprised when I "Google" it and came up with the web site so decided to call and see if I could get verification. FMCA does have a deal with Kiley Mold so ordering though them goes to Kiley. I don't know what goes on between the upper echelon and businesses. Just the facts, just the facts.- 46 replies

Richard, just for you😀 and as an unofficial announcer here it is: I spoke with Denny Kiley this morning. He returned my phone call from the message I left. They are still in business and here is a link to their web site Kiley Mold The previous link I posted was directly to the brackets. Dennis stated that they are not "full time" in the business but they are still operating on a part time bases and answering and filling orders. Pass the word!- 46 replies

I have not been in a situation with the newer to us MH that I had to run on 30A.
-
Roland, what route are you going to take to get to Corpus? My preferred way is Hwy 35. Just a nicer scenic ride.

Ah shucks! I was writing this when y'all posted. We leave Sunday so we'll be missing you. Wave when you see us going by. Look fast and for the colors.

Roland, I live in Texas City about 14 miles from Galveston. When we are going East, or coming back from the East we always take TX-146. It is at mile marker 798. We have traveled all ways and this is the easiest way that we have found. Yes, there are some stop and go's but it is 4 lane 99% of the way. The Fred Hartman Bridge is at the Houston Ship Channel and is about 2.5 miles long and about 400 ft high. It is 8 lanes (4 each way) and I never had a problem with the previous MH with the 340 ISB, and towing. TX-146 will merge into I-45 at the Texas City Wye. If you do plan on coming that way. There is one underpass but it is 13' 7" and should be no problem. I can give an alternate route to avoid the 13' 7" if needed. Also, in Texas City there are two fueling stations now on 146. If you come this way there is a Chevron on the left side 1/2 mile just past the 1764 hwy. The other one is new and it is an Oaisis just past Hwy 519. Diesel prices at these two convenient locations is not as cheap as off the beaten path but beaten path is out of the way - a little. Chevron is $2.70 and Oaisis is proud of their Diesel at $2.99. Off the beaten path is $2.77. At 100 gallons it's not worth the effort to go off the route for $22, just don't buy beer for one day..

That's what she said ...Errr... Joe said. 😀 He said, "A 50 amp coach actually has 220vac coming in on two separate legs (2 -120's) but still single phase." Actually each "leg" is 50 amp and capable of 6000 watts each. Overall a 50 amp coach is capable of 12000 watts Totally. However, circuit breakers are not exactly 30 or 50 amp. They have a 20% plus or minus capability. So either service could trip below or above their rated capacity. Always plug into 50 amp if you have a 50 amp service and 50 amp is available. A 30 amp service is only capable of 3600 watts, way below the capacity needed to run a 50 amp RV sufficiently. Those ratings are based on 120v. Yes, I have the EMS also (Electrical Management System) and it works on 30 amp or 20 amp, not 50 amp. On our last trip out there were some campgrounds (all 50 amp service) where I could run all 3 roof AC's and there were some that it would trip the breaker. Temps out side were in the upper 90's. I just automatically started using just to and we were very comfortable. Had we only had 30 amp service available, 1 AC and very little else would be able to run.
-
I also have not found it to be a problem finding 50 amp service. Keigm, Get a good understanding of RV electrical service. One cannot plug an RV into a standard household 30 amp supply as that provides 220v and will fry things. Here is a good start: 50amp Electrical Service

Years ago we stayed at New Orleans KOA, 11129 Jefferson Hwy River Ridge, LA. All back-in sites and the price is about $55 a night with membership. Add 10% without. Driving to it I was concerned about the neighborhood but upon arrival and talking with staff they don't have (didn't at that time anyhow) a problem. We did not have a problem. At that time the had a shuttle to the French Quarter. We did not use it and just used the TOAD. It is about 12 miles from the French Quarter. I would use it again if the Military RV park was full.

Yes, Happy New Year to y'all. Bill, another nice place is Miller Creek RV park in Johnson City. We have rally to attend there in April. Very accommodating. -
Roland, How long are you going to be in that area?
-
As for the steps, had that happen to me but in my case the step was free floating. Came out about 1/3 the way but moved like a swing. Friend told me to keep the step turned on, go out and pull/push on the step. That's what I did and it reset the control board, I think. Hey, what do you have to loose.

Battery issues flat Towing
wayne77590 replied to studebrucer's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
I used to have a problem with my battery going down when towing. I did carry a battery charger with me and when I was hooking to the campsite services I would have the charger plugged into the pedestal. After about 10 minutes of set up I would return to the car and start it with no problem. Irritating as heck though. So, the book says to stop and run the engine for 5 minutes every 4 hours (or so) but that would not do it for me. What I did do was stop every two hours, hey - potty break, and run the engine while stretching the legs and Earlene would walk our Husky. So far we have not had an issue of power loss on the car. What I did notice was that in hilly country it was more likely the battery would drain. The exhaust brake on our MH applies the tail lights so a constant use can cause havoc with the battery and drain it sooner. I'll just stop a little sooner when in those conditions. In the meantime I am looking at getting a TOAD Charger and that should take care or any problems. -
We'll be at the JRB (Joint Reserve Base) in Belle Chasse.

We'll be in the area around the 7th until...
