  1. I would suggest a campground in Townsend, TN. We stay at the Big Meadow Family Campgroud almost every year. It is 2 miles from the park entrance and about 9 miles from Cades Cove. Townsend is considered the "quiet side of the Smokies."
  2. It is what it is! Its been this way for several years. They had so much dissatisfaction with their reservation system that they just quit doing them, The new coach will probably get into an express bay (two technicians for a total of three hours) within 2 or 3 days, depending on how busy they are. Tiffin is now using something called a Hepvo trap in place of the P-trap in at least some showers, especially in rear bath coaches. The Hepvo trap takes up less room than a P-trap. They are also using them on the kitchen sinks, which makes for more under the sink storage.
  3. FYI. Tiffin no longer makes appointments for service, you must show up at the service center to get on the schedule. Warranty coaches get priority, however you must go there to get on the list. The shower should not be draining so slowly! Sounds like an obstruction in the drain line.
  4. I was in that store a week ago to buy some grommets for my stove, so it is still open, for what that's worth. I still wouldn't buy an RV from them, or go there for service.
  5. $800 to $1000 is not unreasonable at all for what you are talking about. You may need to have the Transmission fluid and differential oil changed also. We had an 08 Phaeton and had all of those items done. before the coach was six years old. I assume that the belts that you are referring to are the belts on the Cummins, and yes they need changing unless they have been changed earlier. Bay Diesel in Red Bay charged me around $1500 for all of that stuff, belts, Transmission and Diff oil, etc, several years ago.
  6. I would suggest that before you order, you get pricing from Sherman RV in Sherman Mississippi and Davis RV in Memphis Tennessee. These two consistently discount new orders from Tiffin 28-30% off of MSRP. We bought at Davis and were very pleased with the experience. Many Tiffin owners come all the way from the west coast to do business with these two. Send the "sales manager" an e-mail with the specs of what you want and they will get right back to you. Check www.tiffinrvnetwork.com for more on Tiffin product. Not a factory website, TRVN is run by Tiffin owners for Tiffin owners. (Although not restricted to Tiffin owners!)
  7. Interesting, my coach has flush mount windows, and they slide. They will open just as wide as the previous coach's (2008) windows.
  8. Yes it is OK. On my current coach and my prior coach, with the cruise on and the exhaust/engine brake on, the brake would/will activate if we are/were on a long downhill and the speed increased to 5-8 mph above the set speed. Once we slow down to the set speed, the brake goes off.
  9. Walmart has slide in "Trays" in their housewares section which are 3 or 6 inches wide, 3 inches high and about 16 inches deep. We basically got enough of them to cover every shelf in the refer. They slide out easily to remove stuff, and keep everything where there are supposed to. You may need to adjust the shelves to accommodate taller items. Since we have a 2015 Phaeton, I suspect that we have the same Maytag three door refer. We have traveled for over 10K miles over the past year with no problems. On edit, we use the same trays in the cabinets to hold glasses and cups to keep them from sliding around. Yes, we prefer glass glasses and ceramic cups to the plastic kind.
  10. This is not a problem to Twin Peaks Insurance. 800-507-8467
  11. Check the "Check Valve". We had the same issue with an 08 Phaeton. The valve is behind the water heater. It is accessed through a small hole in the wall in the basement next to the heater. Very tight squeeze, I had a service person do it. My hot water completely stopped flowing.
  12. FWTW: A Drawer type dishwasher (GASP) uses much less water than most folks use when washing dishes!
  13. According to the FMCA towing guide, if it has an automatic transmission, then no towing 4 down. If it is 4wd, then you cannot tow using a dolly either manual or automatic. If it is a front wheel drive, you can probably use the dolly, but I would check with the owners guide (Not always accurate) and/or the manufacturer first. Don't bother with checking at a dealer, they never know anything about towing!
  14. If you need to stay in the Memphis area, Tom Sawyer RV Park in West Memphis is very Good. Your site will be facing the river on a levee and you can sit in your drivers seat and watch the river traffic go by. (Ask for a riverfront site in the Motor Home section)
  15. The Tiffin service facility in Red Bay no longer honors any service contracts, not just Good Sam. They were having to expend so much manpower to collect from service providers that they finally said "no more".
  16. We have been using stacked washers and dryers since 2007. No problems, other than a Whirlpool washer dying after 5 years on our previous coach. We like Splendidie washers and dryers very much.
  17. 296.77 seems kinda pricey, when compared to Escapes Mail Service!
  18. Maybe to avoid what happened to the owner of the RV that started this thread! Many school bus drivers who drive diesel bus's do this whenever they leave the bus with the engine off.
  19. You would think that since GS and Camping World are under the same ownership, they would understand how to play the game, if this were the case.
  20. The DEF engines did not hit the market until the EPA 2010 rules took effect, in 2010. The 08 ISC coach had a different method of smog removal. (Exhaust after treatment) I never noticed any exhaust regeneration on that coach. Interestingly, the 2015 DEF engine which is a 450hp engine vs 360hp on the 08 ISC, is getting better fuel economy and the 42ft coach is heavier than the 40ft 08. And I am running the '15 about 5-8 mph faster, especially on Interstates. Having the tag axle makes the '15 much more stable especially in cross winds and when passing or being passed by 18 wheelers. I had no issues with the 08 engine, and I did run biodiesel in it for several years. I almost always fill up at Pilot/Flying J because I am reasonably certain that those stations do not have old, stale fuel in their tanks.
  21. I solved the ISC issue by trading my ISC coach (2008 Phaeton) for an ISL coach (2015 Phaeton).
  22. Note that the Cummins document does not mention ISC engines.
  23. Escapee's has mail service with Florida, South Dakota, and Texas residency. I believe that Good Sam and others offer Florida residency's also. If you plan to eventually land in Florida, then having a Florida address makes sense. The biggest drawback to Texas and Florida is the sales tax on automobiles and especially Motorhomes when compared to SD. We register our coach in Montana, with a Texas residency, for that reason.
  24. Be more concerned about the brakes stopping it on mountain roads. Also be concerned about legal issues if you have a accident and are towing over the tow limit. You will climb fairly slowly with the 260 engine but you will get there if you don't overload the 100o series transmission.
  25. 2008 Tiffin coaches, at least Allegros and Phaetons, valances are not deep enough to accommodate MCD shades. They need to be extended out from the wall about an inch, more or less. When I had my Day/Nite shades on my 2008 Phaeton replaced with roller shades at the Tiffin Service Center in Red Bay, the Tech made pieces covered with the proper fabric to move the valances out from the wall. Worked very well and we were glad to be rid of the day/nites!
