The portion of 550 from Durango to Silverton (and on to Ouray) is what causes a number of folks to grow feathers and cluck... -

I have driven this entire route in my 40 ft DP towing a Jeep Grand Cherokee with no problems. -

Campground Suggestions For Lubbock & Albuquerque

Try the Oasis RV Resort, just west of Downtown Amarillo off of I40. -
I drove PCH North from San Francisco to the end, with no issues. The difference was a 31 ft coach (north) vs a 40 ft coach. (south)

I have driven CO 550 from Durango to Montrose in our 40 ft DP, towing a Grand Cherokee. I enjoyed the drive myself, and my co-pilot couldn't stop talking about the great views from her seat. There was one hairpin turn between Silverton and Ouray that was really tight I wouldn't hesitate to do it again, and I really don't like man made heights. I guess it all depends on your constitution. OBTW: I drove CA 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) from Los Angeles to Monterray in the same coach. I might not do that one again!

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland Towing Question
kingfr replied to abelln@bellsouth's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Does not accrue miles. The Odometer is electronic, you tow with the ignition off. It has been that way for several years, Our 2012 doesn't and in fact, the 07 GC that we used to own did not accrue miles when being towed either.. -
Is There A Popular - Go To - Vehicle For Towing 4 Down?
kingfr replied to DaveKerr's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Jeep - Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, Cherokee (Old or new) and Liberty. I have Towed all of them except the new Cherokee at one time or another. They are all easy to set up and follow you around like an obedient puppy! -
Towing a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Latitude 4 x 4
kingfr replied to jrs1958's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Are you sure that your Jeep has a steering wheel lock? My Grand Cherokee does not, and the Wrangler before it didn't either! -
I think that this is a classic "Mountain out of a mole hill" arguement. I assume that we should all stop flying because of the Malasia Airline incident?

My father used to say that he would not have an automobile with power windows because "that was just another thing to break". I think that I see a bit of that line of thinking in this thread!

I assume that this was a used vehicle or a leftover. Chevrolet (General Motors) abandoned the medium truck market in 2009, a casualty of their bankruptcy. Super C's are now being built on Freightliner chassis', I believe. Any one on a GM chassis would probably qualify as an "Orphan".

The PI takes a little over 2 minutes to actually turn the power on to the coach after testing the incoming power. It seems like 5 minutes. I am plugged into a 30 amp circuit with a 50 AMP PI and a dog bone right now and it works as advertised. My PI is a permantly mounted unit inside the power compartment in my coach.

I wish that I could stay at Fishing Bridge. The first available reservations for 40 ft MHs were after Labor day, and we'll be long gone by then. I would consider dry camping for a few days, but not a whole week. We do like the comforts that 50 amps allow. We'd rather set up once and then tour at our leisure. There are a few sites in the NPS CG's for bigger coaches, but not many. We lucked into one at Madison Junction several years ago. It was real touchy getting into the site without hitting any trees in the cg.

According to my memory, and the official NPS map, the West gate is practically in West Yellowstone. Grizzley is basically in "downtown" West Yellowstone. West Yellowstone is about 6 blocks by 8 blocks. It is 14 miles to Madison Junction from the entrance station. Madison Junction is where you turn left or right to see the park. We will be in the Tetons/Yellowstone area in July. We have reservations at Colter Bay for a week in the Tetons, followed by a week in Grizzley in West Yellowstone.

Porter Cable makes a nice 4 Gallon pancake compressor which will go to 165 PSI, It cycles at 130PSI which is important when trying to inflate tires over 100 PSI!

FWIW: Mark's personal coach is an Allegro Bus.

I suspect that if you spend some time searching the internet, you can find them for less than that. I saw one post that spoke of finding them for a little over $400 each. I have six of the 6CT Lifelines and they were about 2K installed 2 years ago. It's worth it to me not to have to feed water to the batteries.

Campgrounds In New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville
kingfr replied to DaveLauritzen's topic in Campgrounds
When visiting Memphis, try Tom Sawyer CG in West Memphis. Across the river from Memphis. Sites are on the Levee overlooking the river. They park Motorhomes facing the river so you can watch the tow boats go up and down the river. Free laundry too! We like Two Rivers CG in Nashville. We avoid Pigeon Forge like the Plague, go to Townsend, TN instead. Townsend is "the Quiet Side of the Smokys". We stay at Big Meadow Family CG there. If you must have a Pigeon Forge / Gatlinburg fix, its a 30 minute drive from Townsend. -
Disconnecting Battery-- 2012 Jeep Wrangler?
kingfr replied to ksteingrube's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
If you have to disconnect the battery, then your lights are wired wrong. We had a 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. All we had to do to tow it was hook it to the coach, (Blue OX Tow Bar) plug it in to the coach, put the transfer case in neutral, the Automatic Transmission in park, put the Brake Buddy in, remove the key and go. (Maybe not in that exact order!) I would return the wiring harness to the dealer and make him remove it if you really do have to disconnect the battery. I really think that the dealer doesn't know what he is doing. -
I would think that two days one way from Baton Rouge to Yellowstone or back is not enough, unless you like 900 mile days.

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Pro Con - Do You Tow One?
kingfr replied to Bluebirds's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
I don't believe that following the directions as printed is "operator error". Maybe operator error on the part of the "manual writer", but not necessarily on your part. I do believe that I would go to the Jeep web site and download the latest version of the owners/operators manual. I looked at it and it appears to be correct, at least in that section.- 19 replies
