  1. Here's one of the photos I took of the old ones
  2. Obedb, NAPA in Delaware, no tax installed them yesterday and changed my charger/inverter to AGM, all the while with a big smile on my face . one of the old wet cells leaked over the winter, crust everywhere and they were all egg shaped. 8 years old and seen better days!! I cleaned it all up with Deka battery cleaner, washed it, lubed the tray slides and painted all of it including the compartment. I also buffed the cable ends and applied Antiseize to all of the connections (old hot rod trick)

    DEF Hydrometer

Carl, I had heard that back around then also. Haven't heard much since. The only thing I heard is the government is cracking down on Glider kits (new chassis complete without powertrain) then the end user installs old power under the hood to get around the laws. This was and is a loop hole they are working on closing. Back in the mid 2000's there were companies that made Diesel Particulate Filter retro kits. They bombed the testing and disappeared. All else is quiet....so far. Let's hope it stays that way.

    DEF Hydrometer

So far everything that didn't come with new emissions technology doesn't need it they are all currently "grandfathered". Is that supposed to change? And if so whom pays for the retrofit? That would be an absolute disaster!! Especially since the base engine couldn't withstand the heat and neither could the chassis house all of the components. Personally, I won't purchase one with it, not now, not later!!

    DEF Hydrometer

Bill, you would have to wonder on a new coach as well. How long the chassis sat before it was built on? Can you imagine if it sat for a year
  6. Powder coat also has a problem getting into the corners of a 90 degree angle, as its drawn in by magnetic charge it will always take the path of least resistance and cling to the sides rather than the center V portion of the 90 degree angle. There is a truck body company up here that builds utility bed truck bodies, their claim to fame was powder coating the bodies, theirs turned into Swiss cheese in 2-3 years, the painted ones last on average to 10 or more.

    DEF Hydrometer

If it were me I would shop for DEF like Milk at the grocery store. Buy it in a prepackaged container and look at the expiration date. If I know I will use it by then I'm good. if it expires before I will use it, look for a newer jug. As far as bulk at the pump, you would almost have to put it into a mason jar, test it, then dispense. We were testing Brand new trucks that we have had sitting here for 3 months, the DEF was out of spec . Production date in the door was November. The water portion apparently had evaporated and its in concentrated form now.

    DEF Hydrometer

Well here it goes with the latest in Diesel technology nightmares. Now we are experiencing DEF system issues, engine lights from DEF not being up to par. We have purchased DEF Hydrometers to test DEF as step 1 in chasing problems related to the SCR system. Apparently its becoming a problem across the industry leading to breakdowns. Here's the instructions and there doesn't look like there is much of a margin before it becomes a problem; The Urea content is based upon the number of discs that float. If 0 float = Urea content is <29%; change fluid. If 1 floats = Urea content is 30%; change fluid. If 2 float = Urea content is 32.5%; ideal. If 3 float = Urea content is >35%; change fluid. 9. Good idea Herman! After looking at these it dawned on me the hold downs will need to be altered. I've got all day tomorrow to make it work and its supposed to be sunny and 70 .
  10. I think this is an area some people have a fear and the RV industry advertising talks them into stuff they probably don't need. 3rd Jeep toad now none have had any chips or damage. This coach has small flaps behind the rear wheels and a rock guard. The last coach had nothing. I have always felt the length between the drive tires and rear of coach play a huge part in this. Carl, that damage could have been a flying stone from a vehicle passing you, that's very common.
  11. Roland, if you can take it out, see if there is a electric motor repair shop in the phone book locally, or a place you can mail it. Maybe you can clean it up and put it back in? Just a thought to save you a few $$
  12. Thank you for the follow up post. I was thinking about this on the way in to work today. Pondering in my head where the future of FMCA is headed and what is around the corner. While I am not 100% on board with the change and here is one reason I am concerned.... I truly believe less than 40% of motorhome owners are members and I'd bet the vast majority of the other 60% doesn't know FMCA exists or doesn't see any value for their dollar. It needs to be put out in front of people at the time of purchase to begin with, step one... make people aware. With that being said what number of folks will know about it if and when it opens up to trailers? I feel we and FMCA leadership need to get out in front of our target members and sell it. So what do you sell? The younger generation often doesn't think forward enough to see the benefit in FMCA assist, or feel they don't need it yet. Trailer folks wont get any value in the tire program, Continental and Michelin both do not offer small trailer tires that I can find on either web site. Perhaps campground discounts for the future would be a good selling point to start with, other stuff? Any ideas? Here is a great example of how little know of FMCA. Every time I book a campground, I always ask if FMCA members get a discount (I do it on purpose as a test), the response is almost always "what is FMCA? No, sir do you have Good Sam"? One time in 8 years I got a YES we will give you the same discount as Good Sam. In order to sell something you have to have a product that is desired, how do we accelerate above the competition to make it desirable? Let's toss some ideas out so there so it can move forward and give FMCA leadership something to look into. How about updating and getting more FMCA commercial campgrounds on board, the ones I have seen are pretty rundown, perhaps that needs some attention? GO
  13. Deka battery 8AGC2M. Bought them through Napa.
  14. AGM's for me, just ordered them. Four 6V cost me $896.00. No TAX (benefit to living close to Delaware ) Personally I will not go back to wet cell. I have enough to constantly look at with routine maintenance, adding four batteries just adds to the list that is already too long, then dealing with watering, equalizing charges while they gas etc...etc...etc...
  15. Membership expires 11/19/2017, on the fence to renew. I really don't see much in benefits, I get more out of comradery then benefits. I will be 45 this year and DW will be 47, getting there but not close to the average age. I would go to a rally, but to drive for 2 days to and from is a bit much while working full time. One observation that has me deeply concerned, if you look at the other forums on the internet the "other RV" people on there are often angry, this includes Facebook. All I keep picturing is the current FMCA (calm friendly people) turning into the bashing each other and derogatory comments you see elsewhere and I don't want to see that on here. While you can manage it this is not the place for it, the people on here are considered to be friends and extended family. I know you can't hand pick the members and there are good and bad on each side, just seems to be worse over there. Stop and look around most campgrounds, take it in and digest it, maybe in a place where the average age is retired its not common, I could believe that. If we do renew it will be at Hershey, nice people in the FMCA booth, always welcoming with open arms.
  16. Looks good! I advertise mine back there also!!
  17. How is RVillage and FMCA related?
  18. Just turn the water supply off first before servicing the cartridge or replacing, believe me it happens to the best of us
  19. Are you referring to the filter above the air intake? If so I always do, and on occasion will vacuum all around it and up inside if there is any dust.
