When my friend followed me through Alaska he had a full mudflap. He was pulling a full size Ford van. We found the headlights were broken and full of gravel. We replaced them and they broke again. After looking at the situation we concluded that the rocks thrown off the tires were hitting the full mud flap and bouncing off the road and up to the headlights. We stopped at a plastic shop in Anchorage a got some lexan and duck taped the covers on. Now the rocks just bounced off. On my toad I used 2 camping sleeping mats, from Wal Mart, and held in place with bungee cords. Not one mark on my truck and I still use that system on my current Silverado. Total cost of the 100% protection, $ 20.

Told That DVR Does Not Do Well Traveling On The Road
desertdeals69 replied to Pat60's topic in Electronics
Unless your coach is rough riding I don't see that that is a problem. There are thousands of rvers using dvrs without problems. -
just resolder all the connections. use small diameter solder as it will not take much. you need a pencil point solder iron.

Is that an Intellitec switching system?

Not really central but we stayed in Watchmans cg in Zion. National park with electric. We used the toad to visit the other places.

The model I used was made for RV use. It had a vent tube to the outside. It worked perfect inside without any problems. -
Use Of Portable Propane Heaters While Drycamping?
desertdeals69 replied to whiteeagle's topic in Systems and Appliances
Years ago I used a catalytic propane heater with good results. I think it was a Cat brand. -
If it is electric it could be the switch. Polarity is reversed to go up or down.

I have run my refrigerator on the inverter while driving for several years to save on propane. It draws 268 watts when the heat element is on which is about 32 amps at 12 volts. Ideally you would start the day with full batteries or be sure you have enough alternator output. I had to change my alternator from 165 amp to 240 to keep up with 2 group 31 for the engine and 6 golfcart 2GCs. Prior to doing that I burnt up 2 alternators.

If the switch is Intellitec it is a unique solenoid that you don't find at an auto parts store. The "solenoid" is really a latching switch. To go from on to off the polarity is reversed. It only get current during the switching sequence.

If you use a Road Relay 4 or 5 you can reset the trip mpg each time you fill up.

The arm is on a tapered spline shaft and it will stick tight. You can use a light tapping on the end of the shaft while applying pressure under the arm. Another way is to use a puller. Pull the whole mechanism out to see what has failed.

When I had my coach painted last June I was offered the Diamond Shield for $1200. I asked how much to repaint the front end and was told $800. I opted for the latter. I'd rather do that than spend thousands latter.

Just get the dryer number off the tag on the bottom and go to the NAPA auto parts store and they can order it for you. I did mine 2 weeks ago.

Mine does.

It looks like the settings are off. Check the owners manual. The battery amps should be somewhere around 420. When the batteries are fully charged the voltage is 12.6 with no load.

Shore Power Switching to Inverter Power
desertdeals69 replied to andrews.thomasw@gmail.com's topic in Electrical
Are you saying that the inverter is on when you have power from the shore cord? If you do then maybe the transfer switch in the inverter is not working. -
Polishing Plastic Lens/headlights, Etc
desertdeals69 replied to turtlemechanic's topic in Modifications
Are you saying don't polish just use wax? There are compounds out there to coat the lens after buffing that will prolong the shine. -

New to Full Timing. What About Address Changes
desertdeals69 replied to Pat60's topic in Full-timing
I would use you former business address. -
The heat pump draws as much current as the ac. It should never be hooked up to the inverter. The microwave on mine draws about 190 amps from the batteries.
