  1. I did research a couple of campgrounds approx. halfway. Also a couple of travel centers just in case. I think I'm more excited than stressed but that could change quickly. How did most of you feel on your first mileage journey? Kind of funny but it's like, do I need this, did I forget this, etc...
  2. We will probably just rest, sleep for maybe 4-6 hrs. So it will be latrine only.
  3. I filled the fresh water tank with 30 gal,. Should be plenty for the ride. I don’t know yet on the usage, thoughts? Just using it for the latrine duties.
  4. Affirmative. Safety is my first priority.
  5. OK, no truck stops. And now I know his name is Joe. I might just go for it and go the distance, we will see. Like wicked excited for this first real trip.
  6. Thanks guys. Looks like we will be leaving NH Friday at 4 am. Should be able to cover a good distance before needing to take a nap.
  7. Trying to find a "good" spot to stop about halfway to take a nap, eat, etc....... between NH and SC. Any suggestions? We don't do WM's. Looks like some states you can't stay overnight in a rest area.
  8. Probably listening to Sammy Hagar's "I can't drive 55"
  9. Getting pretty excited here. Almost 3 weeks to go. Anyone ever fish off the piers there? DW likes to lay on the beach, I can't stand that so I fish. The pier is private because they have a commercial license so you don't need one. The charge you an admission fee and a per rod fee. It's not that much.
  10. I think with that many toad miles I will do the rear bearings. Then I will tow it.
  11. Getting a rebuilt put in now
  12. With like 4 weeks to go the toad blew it's 2nd tranny. Better here than in MB. So the toad is a 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe with 300K miles, motor and body are like new. Stupid CVT transmission......I don't think the MH will tow the Chevy Avalanche
  13. I think if you could possibly combine designs from both. Small for the RV but retractable like the larger.
  14. There we go. Thanks for that link.
  15. This is interesting. Would need a scale down version for a RV. Company's name is Renovation LTD for more info. https://twitter.com/cheddar/status/937954715626696704?lang=en
  16. Bon Dia Linda. My wife, Lucia, and family generations are from Santa Maria. Her family name was Chaves. Mi madre's familia was from Faial via Lisboa. Must be why we could live on fish. I've been to all those places a few times. Santa Maria my favorite. Many family still there.
  17. I looked up the recipe for the sardine casserole and it's usually called Mediterranean Casserole. It is similar to a Portuguese dish called Bacalhau Assado. Since my wife was born and raised in Portugal (Azores), we eat that quite often. I'll stick with using Cod instead. And man o man is it yummy.
  18. My wife puts them on top of her salad out of the tin which she has almost every night. I prefer them fresh then fried. But out of the tin is good also. Maybe have to try that in a casserole
  19. The KOA doesn't rent them but you can drive them in and park it on your site. That's our option if we don't bring the toad. There's a rental place a couple of blocks away. Geez I'm getting excited already. Already checked out boondockers welcome for a place to stay the night en route. btw , OP= David
  20. Anyone ever rent a golf cart at MB? Going to call KOA and see if you can drive and park it there, jic. Already checked out the fishing off the piers. No license but you have to pay a fee to fish off of it.......

    Skid Wheels

I tried the wood. What a p.i.a. and it didn't work out well. I found some heavy duty casters at work and I will see how they will fit tonight on the hitch bar. I will have to make a couple of top plates if the size is right. Return what i borrowed and order a couple from McMaster. David
  22. The steering wheel has to be locked and I have surge brakes, No spare as of now.
  23. I remember the train scaring the bleep out of me when i was like 6. We used to live in Van Nuys.
  24. Maybe it will turn out to be like that ride at Disneyland: "Mr Toads Wild Ride"....lol...I rode on that in the 60's and it's still there. Actually I am confident, thanks guys, that we will be just fine with all the great intel provided.
