I would like to know what FMCA is doing to recruit new members?
rayin replied to wildebill308's topic in FMCA
I did that, what came up is international travel insurance. What I'm talking about is for within the U.S.A. and CA. -
From reports I've read they are quicker to respond than the factory. BTW, link doesn't work, the .com is not in the hot link. Their website lists the jack foot and springs.

Ross, that was my point, it is not advertised as a benefit available, even though it is open to anyone. -
I found two different diesel online shops selling re-manufactured CAPS injection pumps: https://thedieselstore.com/4076442x-cummins-caps-pump-for-cummins-c-series-engines-2570.html and https://bkdiesel.com/i-30499453-cummins-8-3l-caps-fuel-pump.html I doubt Cummins Great Plains will buy from an aftermarket seller though. Then of course there is Alibaba selling rebuilt pumps from China, they advertise one for $500 incl. shipping. Nope, not gonna bite.

1999 Cummins ISC 350HP in 1999 Spartan MM chassis. P.S. I read your thread from 2014 about the ISC injector pump. The Cummins diagnosis is, the distributor module shaft is broken.https://quickserve.cummins.com/service/toss/1999/05/tt990509.htm

I wonder if FMCA could push another product offered by Seven Corners, travel insurance for individual RVers. I watched a presentation on TV this morning by Seven Corners General manager. Having travel insurance would have been nice for the now-cancelled conventions. -
Thank you! That is 1/2 of what I was quoted.
-
Herman was that including labor? I was quoted $5k for a new pump + another $5k for labor.

I gotta pay to play.Regrettably our MH was too old at 15 years to qualify for renewing the extended service contract, or all it would cost me is the $50 deductible+ diagnostic fees. DW and i are both better after a good nights sleep, she has strong medicine to help control her pain. She issued a stay-at-home order for both of us after watching the news last night. FWIW, the Cummins Great Plains service manager said if the lift pump fails, the injector pump is not far behind. I replaced the lift pump in Feb, drove about 400 miles since then.

Turned out the steps not working was a simple fix. I wiggled the yellow step wire on the ignition switch and the steps immediately retracted and worked flawlessly since. Got 300 miles from home, overnighted in a CG. Next morning engine started normally, but shut down within one second. Three warning lights on display panel, check engine, stop engine, and a (red gear-shaped light???). Called emergency road service, they said the only one they could locate was Loves Truck Stop road service. Their man arrived and immediately said he can read the codes but Loves does not work on motor homes; he could not even connect with the ECM. I called another mobile service myself, he could not connect with the ECM either. The CG owner called his mechanic, same result, although he was much better than the preceding two. Called ERS again and explained past happenings, they agreed to pay for the tow to the nearest qualified repair shop. They found the same as I, Cummins Great Plains in Rock Island, ILL was closest qualified repair shop. Cummins diagnosed the problem, the shaft in the accumulator on the injection pump broke.($5,000 estimate, vs $10,000 for injection pump installed) There was none available last week, so we dry camped in their lot behind the building. Came home today because the temps were expected to be 100 and over this weekend and 90's all next week. So here I sit, waiting for something to happen, and saving up money. If that wasn't enough, the ice maker water supply line rubbed against a metal piece on the back of the refrigerator and sprang a leak, flooding the back of the fridge and running into a basement compartment below. Shut off water filter to stop leak, gotta fix that when I get the MH back home. DW cancelied her appt. at May clinic, because she will not stay in a motel during this pandemic, and Rochester is under a movement quarantine.

That map is accurate with what Mayo Clinic told me this morning about Rochester restrictions. Has this Texas Dr. found the silver bullet for Covid-19? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDSDdwN2Xcg&feature=youtu.be (didn't get to leave, DW had severe migraine, tomorrow)

I'll have to finish loading in the morning, I'm exhausted. The step was extended when I installed new start batteries. I'm now suspecting shade-tree mechanic error might be involved, even though I took a picture of the wiring on the old batteries and put it back the same as the picture. Haven' had time to recheck my work this evening,-yet. Temperature has dropped, only 86° now. I'll go look at the wiring and cycle the disconnect switch now. UPDATE: no joy Wayne, disconnect switch thing didn't help, step is stuck out. I can't crawl underneath right now, I was going to try moving the transfer crank with a channel lock plier but MH is parked outside on crushed stone, my old bones can't take that these days. Battery wiring is correct, exactly the same as the picture before changing start batteries.

Ron, I have a reservation at http://www.autumnwoodsrvpark.com/index.php I had a little difficulty getting hold of someone, had to leave 2 phone messages. I don't make online reservations after a bad experience many years ago. The woman who returned my call said they normally have several Mayo Clinic patients staying there, and have a liberal policy for extending their stay. I'll be able to speak from experience by July 20.

Thanks Herman, I'll look after we get to the RV park in Rochester, I always carry a set of work clothes JIC. I suspected a hidden fuse somewhere, if I had time I'd check now. Gotta go, bye.
-
Thanks for suggestions guys. All grounds are clean, with continuity. When I hold a magnet next to the door post sensor I hear the controller click(yes even with my poor hearing) all step breakers are good but according to that service training manual there may be a standard automotive fuse somewhere in the + wire from the batteries. Since the magnet closing causes the controller to click I assume there is power to the steps . Since time is short(still loading, leave in the morning) I've decided to travel with the step extended, it is a series 28=one step, and has 8" ground clearance when extended, coach at ride-height. I'll run the Kwikee electrical test procedures upon our return home Ross, the brass plunger contacts in the door and door frame power the remote door lock, has nothing connected to Kwikee steps; steps are lubed monthly per Kwikee manual; but thanks for your advice.
-
Well, I pulled the MH up to the house this morning and the outside steps do not retract. Drat, I'm reading the Kwikee service training manual now to find out the likely solution. It's not a show stopper though.

Thanks guys! If I have mechanical problems with our MH, my plan is to call ERS and once the MH is in a qualified repair shop get an estimated repair completion date. If the date is over 2 days off, I'll load necessities into my Silverado pickup and continue to Mayo Clinic with DW. We can pickup the MH after her appts. are completed. The main flaw in this plan is motel availability in Rochester, I haven't investigated that yet.

I agree Smithy. I read all the adds in my hard copy separate from reading articles, there are some very useful things to remember. Like the guy on a different forum asking about covered MH storage in Florida; I told him where I found the add while typing the details of the storage area.

We leave for Mayo Clinic in Rochester Thursday, and I'm rather apprehensive about the trip. I always travel with a full fresh water tank and empty holding tanks, and we carry enough food for a week. I have planned RV parks for overnight stops TA and PFJ for backup stops. We can only travel ~200 mi/day due to DW's back problem. Rochester just issued a mandatory mask order today. Am I overthinking this??
-
Ya, there's huge difference between your MH and an 80,000# semi with straight-thru exhaust exiting12' in the air. I would do the same as you if I had an compression brake.

What a waste of sardines. That is NOT for picky eaters. Reminds me of a cousin, he would pile everything on his plate on top of each other, saying it all goes the same place anyhow.

No need to crawl underneath, simply cut the wheels to lock and peek at the suspension, you will either see a solid axle and king-pin or upper and lower control arms for IFS.

The statement about checking with local Michelin retailers for a lower price vs calling Michelin used to be on the FMCA tires webpage until about 3 years ago.
