  1. Welcome to the FMCA discussion forums! Locate a few near your preference, then visit https://www.campgroundreviews.com/ to see what others have to say about the RV park.
  2. Not to be a smarteleck , what area? We are both in North America.
  3. I really think the previous owner was attempting to compensate for other issues. Before anything else, have a total alignment performed on your chassis. I was experiencing steering wander even though the front tires were wearing evenly. I took my Spartan chassis to a HDT repair shop and requested a total alignment. The technician found the rear axle was out of alignment by 3/4", which he corrected and completed the total alignment($300). Afterwards our MH drove more like my Silverado pickup, steady, straight, and the steering wheel was once again level. I think I'm getting about 1/4 MPG more too, of course that is very difficult to calculate correctly so it may be my imagination.
  4. Flying J's company-owned stores RV pump lanes have gasoline and diesel fuel, easy in-easy out. The franchise stores may/may not have RV pump lanes. Those are identified on the PFJ website.
  5. Yes, I read that this morning, 20 minutes after her death the "news" reported liver cancer, can't survive without either one.
  6. My 1999 Spartan MM GT chassis came with two electric fans on the outside of the radiator 'sandwich", then the standard hydraulic fan is on the inside pulling inward. The two electric fans appear to be 12" diameter, all you would need is the controller and two fans from a salvage yard.
  7. This year I used Biobor in our MH tank, first time I ever used such product. Just one of the bottle jiggers treats my 125G tank. MH's only been driven 600 miles this year, I figured it may prevent a huge headache in the future, even though I always top-off the tank the day of storage. Biodiesel in long-term storage presents a different problem.
  8. Change of topic. Ruth Bader Ginsburn has passed away from liver cancer, she survived cancer 4 times, this one was too much for her. Liver cancer is fatal. Sadly politics have already over-shadowed her death.
  9. Re-read his original post, I take it to say the transmission is overheating because he wants to install another transmission cooler. On a Spartan chassis the transmission cooler lines are not connected to the coolant radiator. Gas engine chassis do have the tranny lines ran to the coolant radiator first. I don't know about rear radiator chassis. I just re-re-re-read his initial post, he has a 2005 Freightliner chassis, so it must be a rear radiator setup.
  10. Apparently you are under a false impression. The radiator does not cool transmission oil, the coils in the bottom of a standard radiator are there to heat the AT oil quicker for better transmission performance. Yes, it can provide a minimal oil cooling, but only when the transmission is severely overheated, over 230°F. Normal diesel engine operating temperature is between 180° and 210° Example: I had my AT oil N filters changed per schedule last year, the next trip I noticed the AT temperature was 10-20° less, pulling the same towed, driving the same interstates. The AT oil has it's own oil cooler/radiator for cooling hot oil. If your AT is overheating, there are several possibilities. The primary reason is lack of proper maintenance/changing AT oil and filters per the mfgrs. maintenance schedule.
  11. Prior to purchase i specified they must be recently made. They were all less than 6 mos. old at installation time. That's pretty good IMO, as they are made in Vietnam. As you said, time will tell. I was offered Firestone 561 tires for the same price, but they were load range L, which I suspected would ride very harsh on a coach that came with LR G tires. The shop owner said he ordered them for a dump truck, but the owner backed out at the last minute.
  12. Check out Sailun truck tires. I walked around truck stops noting steer tire brands and Sailun brand was prominent. I had 6, 275/70R22.5, LR H, installed for a final price of $1,280 including all taxes. That was 2017. IMO they perform just as good, if not better than the Goodyear G670's I removed because of age; there was nothing wrong with the Goodyear's just 9 yrs old.
  13. If you are talking about the plastic end cap, one man had a new one made on a 3-D printer. The old one must be intact enough to obtain measurements from though.

    HWH Leveler Problem

Bill is right, there are valves with a Tee-handle on the end located at the tank/pump assy, open each Tee-handle and wait until the jacks are fully retracted, then close each without any more pressure than was required to open. BTW, mine has an inline fuse near the motor.
  15. You described my wife, she drove my Duramax dually, LB, CC, 4WD to town frequently, as well as towing our 5er. I had to put step-rails on it so she could climb in.
  16. FWIW, Rand McNally has their 2021 Motor Carriers Road Atlas on sale for $14.96.

    Battery

I forgot to say, when changing battery voltage types, you must figure in the cost of new/different cables too.
  18. The only currently made 600 HP+ OTR diesel engine used in production MH's is the Cummins ISX. Cummins no longer produces the 650 HP version for MH's because it was so problematic. The 600HP version seems to be less troublesome, but you really need to read the truckers forums for the professional driver and O/O opinions. Of course Detroit Diesel makes the DD16, 600 HP engine, however it is not used by production-line MH mfgrs. It is used in Prevost, Marathon, Foretravel, ie: high-end custom-built MH's. The rule of thumb is 1 HP per 100 lbs is the minimum for relaxing driving. No matter the HP, the mileage killer is speed, after all, you're pushing a 8' X12'' wall down the road. IMO one of the best engines Cummins built was the ISM engine with a maximum of 500HP.
  19. X2! My inverter/charger was over-charging both battery banks and acting strange, I used my cheap Harbor Freight 100A load tester and quickly discovered one in the house bank was internally shorted. Replaced both battery banks and immediately my Xantrex RS2000 inverter/charger began working as designed again.
  20. I'm still here, finally got my heart under control. My BP was 209 over 94 yesterday, I finally figured out I was having a severe asthma attack, back to back nebulizer treatments seem to have remedied the problem for now. Anyway, I'll try to look for that unused electrical connection tomorrow Floyd; unless things go bad tomorrow.
  21. How can I say this politely? We have a certain type of people here that tried introducing animals that were endangered back into the wild. Rattlesnakes, bobcats, coyotes, are just a few that have been released around here. The bobcats seem to have met with cattle ranchers herd protection methods. Coyotes became so populous there is now a bounty on ears turned in. Rattlesnakes seem to be meeting The Judge quite often now in my county.
  22. We have wild hogs in S. Indiana. They can destroy 6-8 acres of beans in one night, the big farmers are begging for hunter/shooters to come to their farms. Rattlesnakes are protected in Indiana by law,

    New Tire Questions

Heavier sidewalls that flex more usually generate more heat. I'm running LR H, placard calls for LR G, ride is a bit harsher. I was offered LR L for a great price but was wary of the much heavier sidewalls making a very harsh ride.
  24. Good to hear the 3 bolts are tight, yes that is the same lift pump. I'll have to look at that plug on mine to see it it is also unused. It will be a while, I'm having heart issues again, gotta take it easy for a few days. If the lift pump gasket is leaking, there will be signs of fuel below the gasket, (on the motor) where it leaks out when the engine is shut down.

    Battery

I agree with FIVE. We do not dry camp, since the MH came with 3, 12V house batteries we stay with that design. We do overnight at PFJ or WalMart infrequently, and the Duracell 3, 12V, 100 amp/hr batteries @ $99 ea. at Sams Club last overnight, including making coffee next morning via the inverter. If you do a lot of dry camping stay with the 6V batteries of your choice.
