  1. Our home address is south of you (North Ft Myers) and we have been with National General (Good Sams) for several years. Our new premium went down either $3.00 or $13.00 when it renewed this month (boss ain't here to give me exact figure). We had a windshield claim last year which they paid 100% ($3,700). I just got a call from them yesterday telling me a possible hurricane was on the way......duhhhh…., they wanted to make sure I was taking precautions. I let them know we never venture into our home state during hurricane season. I wish there was a discount offered for not being down there during the storm season, my rates would probably go down a lot.
  2. Earlier this month we got on I-40 at Santa Rosa (NM) and came east all the way to Fort Smith (AR) before heading north on I-49. We didn't feel like paying the toll for 5 axles all through Oklahoma on I-44. Even though the pavement wasn't perfect it was pretty good by today's standards. Not much traffic and no really large/busy cities to go through. Actually very little construction for the time we were on it. All of I-70 is horrible. We came out of the Denver area earlier this year across the mountains and I thought the potholes would tear our coach apart. Until that entire stretch of interstate is redone we will never use it again.
  3. Welcome SarahR. You are partially correct, it is happening to "almost" new units of several different brands. Our Newmar has been in service for 23 months. Even though our flaking issue isn't nearly as bad as what the OP posted, you can still see evidence of it starting. Our chairs/furniture is Flexsteel. We contacted Newmar as soon as we noticed this, of course it was several months after our 1 year warranty expired. They requested photos and after receiving them they agreed to replace both front seats at no charge to us. We have the appointment next month at their factory to have it done. I read where Flexsteel, and probably other RV furniture makers, were getting some of their leather and similar products from China between 2015 and 2018. Much of this stock material ended up having the flaking issue, or will have. Not sure how accurate the information was. I am just thrilled that Newmar is not only covering this issue well after my factory warranty expired, but they are actually replacing the chairs instead of just having them recovered. Hoping the new material is better.
  4. just like any depreciating asset, the older it gets the less it is worth. Not sure where you are located but there are only a couple areas in the nation where RV sales will be going up in the winter months, everywhere else they will tank until spring. If you trust the dealer/broker who is trying to sell it then I would price it just above where he thinks it will sell. I haven't heard too many stories where someone held out for more money for a year or two and came out good.
  5. Richard, we are full time travelers and I am considering getting the TSD discount card. I also look ahead for each day's travel and locate two or three possible fuel locations, almost always Pilot or Flying J stations. You explanation and experience so far with the card is helpful. One thing I am not clear on yet, prior to running your card at the diesel pump there will be a posted per gallon price, then when you run your card does that price actually show on the pump when you are pumping? When does the add-on from TSD get figured in, is it on the actual pump price you are seeing/pumping or is it added in later? I guess what I'm getting at is I pull in and the email for that day states the discounted price for the Pilot I'm at is $2.30 per gallon. I pump 100 gallons. Is my account actually charged $230, $235, or what exact amount?
  6. Interesting theory, don't think it would work for me to save any money. Even if I never counted in the expense of the extra tanks and a pump, the cost of treating that much fuel plus adding another 1,500 to 1,800 pounds would kill any savings for me. I tow a 24' enclosed trailer that weighs just over 10,000. Without the trailer I can get between 1 and 1.5 more in mpg. So weight does make a different in my Cummins motor I guess.

    tire covers

We had fitted black ones made in SW Florida when we initially purchased our RV. The company rvwindshieldcovers.com used a sunshade breathable material. They make other stuff but the custom tire covers are top notch and still look brand new. Their phone is 863/660-9225.
  8. Ray beat me to it. Even if you were putting on 40,000 to 50,000 miles a year on your Class A, it would still probably be a few years before you could break even.
  9. I guess I'm still an old boater at heart when it comes to hauling around a ton of fuel. It I understand your post correctly you pull a PU that can hold 96 gallons of diesel between it's OEM tank and auxiliary fuel tank, plus you have 185 gallons tank on your coach? Even though a 2500 miles range would be pretty impressive wouldn't hauling around almost 2,000 pounds of fuel decrease your mpg for a good part of that? In addition, if you don't use that 250 to 280 gallons of diesel in a few weeks do you put any type of additive in those tanks?
  10. Josh, welcome and thanks for posting your experience with TT membership. Maybe it will help a newbie who could be considering all the possibilities.
  11. If you use a Visa card at Pilot/Flying J to get 5% back, how do you also use your Good Sams Pilot card to get the additional 5 cents off at the pump plus the receipt on the iPhone app? When buying diesel I always thought I had to use my Pilot card (Good Sams) to get my 9 cents off?
  12. If your sewer elbow was not screwed securely into the campgrounds sewer inlet, wouldn't the backflow just push your fitting out of the inlet instead of forcing it all the way up your stinky-slinky and into your gray tank? I generally only close my gray a day or so before I know I will be dumping the black.
  13. On the Pilot app you should set up your profile. Fast and easy if it already isn't on there. To get a your receipt just click on "profile" at bottom of the main page and it takes you to the screen that says "messages" and "transactions". Click on "Fuel purchased and receipt" and a list of your fuel purchases will come up. Click on whichever one you want the receipt for. You can view it, print it, or email it. Mine are still on there from the start of 2018.
  14. The newer Pilot/Flying J app has been pretty convenient for me and since they updated it I don't have to pull forward and go inside for a receipt. Swipe Good Sams/Pilot card at pump which gets me 9 cents off diesel. Pump and leave. When I go into the app after fueling it will have my actual receipt. I can even email it, which I do to the DW because she pays the bills. I guess I could print it also myself but I just record the information later for my log book.
  15. I would call Tiffin. With Newmars they have sections of a thin mat that are placed in front of the FWS prior to it being pulled in over the tile floors. I believe 8 of them came with my coach. I haven't used them but the DW recently told me she thinks the rollers are starting to leave marks.
  16. Someone on another forum brought up a good point about this card. What if the vendor makes a mistake on your actual amount charged? It is a direct withdrawal from your account you have given them so how long would it take or how hard would it be to get that sort of thing corrected? If you are traveling and putting $160 to $250 at a time on the card it isn't like you can drop in on the station that made the mistake and have them fix it. It is one thing to have a monthly bill direct paid from one of your bank accounts but I'm not sold on this one yet.
  17. I seriously considered going with the lift and towing 4 down or towing with a tow dolly. Being full time the main reason boiled down to the fact I wanted a garage to keep my Harley in. Plus in bad storm conditions even additional garage space where the car could be tucked away, so I went with an enclosed 24' trailer. Of course the negatives by going this route is length. There are some campgrounds we can not get into but so far it hasn't been an issue. The past 2 weeks we have had to keep our enclosed trailer at one location about 10 miles from our current campground. This is due to flooding in the area we are in and us having to stay at an alternative campground where both our RV and trailer would not fit. For 2 weeks I have had to deal with my car and Harley sitting outside. I keep the bike covered but everything still gets dirty. Someday if we decide to "shorten" our overall length I will probably get rid of the trailer and go with a left.
  18. I believe mine is a 2x6 hollow beam, but not 100% sure. I went with a 24' V nose and haul a Mini Cooper, a Harley Trike, and numerous tools/equipment. My total weight including the trailer is just over 9,700 pounds. It pulls really great. The only modification I did was upgrade the tires for a little extra weight.
  19. Well crap, too late Ray. I wondered why I grew that third nipple last year! Seriously, if AO (agent orange) ain't done me in yet insect spray on my stinky slinky and water hose probably ain't going to do it.
  20. I won't even comment on having an LLC and Montana plates on a big coach. I fully understand why some folks believe it is a good idea. My BIL bought a new DP a few years ago after they moved to Arizona. I think his first couple years of registration fees were over $2,000 per year. There are all kinds of tax considerations that make folks take advantage of perceived loopholes. What I will say is that when you get cited from Illinois authorities and you blow it off there will be a warrant issued for your arrest. Now you may stay out of Illinois and avoid that arrest and avoid paying up for awhile. However, be aware that they have agreements with most other states that could effect you in other ways. For example, maybe that warrant from Illinois is entered into the national computer and they have agreed to come and get you from all neighboring States if they come across you. So you could be in one of those 5 or 6 states and an officer could run your plate and bam......off to jail you go. Also, if you blow it off they will probably end up entering a conviction. There are certain offenses where they will send the information to your home state where you are licensed in and that state will count points against your driver's license, or for some violations will even suspend your drivers' license. Right or wrong, the OP needs to take care of this ASAP or there will be future issues that probably won't be pleasant. My suggestion for anyone else under the exact same circumstances in Illinois would be to politely ask the revenue agent to contact an Illinois State Trooper to respond to the scene. All of their troopers are certified under the federal guidelines to do commercial enforcement and he/she could explain the appropriate law. The responding trooper would not be looking to load an innocent unknowing out-of-state RVer up on additional tickets IMHO. The fine money from citations that Illinois Troopers write go directly to the local county they are in at the time, and not the state coffers.
  21. I never "transport" mothballs, even though you could if you left them in the double wrap that Lowe's sells them in. If at our SW Florida site I just go pick them up and use them while there. Had a native Floridian tell me about moth balls and snakes when we bought our first home in Cape Coral. He said you can spend $30 for snake repellent for around the outside of your house to keep them away or $7 for a double bag of mothballs.
  22. We have had really good luck so far with what we have used. Of course I'm always open to suggestions because we are determined to stay mouse, snake, and insect free. My regular routine is to use the gallon spray jug of Home Defense around the RV if we are going to be on a site for a week or longer. I even spray my jacks, water hose coming in, and my shore power coming in. Any visible ant hills within 10 feet of the RV get destroyed and sprayed also. Then just as it turns dark about every 3 or 4 nights I will arm myself with a can of spider spray and a flashlight and hunt any of those critters hanging new webs. In SW Florida I toss a bag of moth balls under the enclosed trailer and under the coach to keep snakes from traveling through our campsite.
  23. I know this was an older post, but last month we stayed at a CG in Anniston AL for 3 nights and picked up ants. It was off I-20 (Good Sams Campground Of Oxford-Talladega). I didn't notice anything when breaking camp. When we arrived in eastern Tennessee at our next stop and I opened the wet bay door there were thousands of ants crawling all over. I had about half of a one gallon jug of insect spray so I removed the top and splashed the whole jug inside the bay. After hooking up we went to the store and purchased 16 ant traps and 2 cans of ant spray. 8 of the traps went inside the coach and 8 was spread out in different basement compartments. I used a whole can of spray inside the coach around the baseboard, behind pantry shelves, under the sink, etc. For the next couple of days I found a few slow moving ants in the storage bays. By the 3rd or 4th day I only found dead ants and we haven't had an issue since. As a preventive measure I have left most of the traps in place plus I added about 20 dryer sheets to the basement storage areas. I know from past experience that dryer sheets are good for keeping mice away but someone told me they help with ants also. Beware of that CG we stayed in off of I-20 though, there were other reviews indicating there has been an ant problem there for awhile.
  24. We use only our phones when backing into a site. The DW will keep hers up to her ear and I will have mine on speaker behind the wheel. Engine noise and the back-up alarm on our coach can be heard through her phone but barely. I never have any problems hearing her directions. She knows to always stay within sight of one of my mirrors or the camera at all times or, I STOP. Another benefit of doing it this way is that no one that approaches her can hear what I am saying to her. For example, when a helpful "expert" fellow camper comes over to assist I sometimes blurt out "tell that idiot to back off until we get parked". He can't hear what I say but only her version "thank you anyway, but we like to do this part ourselves". It makes for a better beginning to our camping experience at that site.
