  1. No I knew going into this what I needed plus after what I had seen under the undercarriage the past owner had already installed the Safe _t_plus up front, but it needed some major adjustments because the motorhome pulled to the right bushing were gone and somehow someone installed a sway bar for the front upside down and missing bushings or were just gone the rear stabilizer bar was the wrong kit installed for the rear it needed a bigger bar and the shocks were bad they had to be replaced even after 44,000 miles they were from the factory yellow in color but no name on them. I have no record what the past owner did not even a car fax history on this motorhome but they told me who ever installed a few things they did a half *** job of it. I'm going to pass on the Sumo Springs for the front and rear because the Koni Quad shocks front and back will do the same job and I do need the suspension stabilizer trac bar for the rear there is nothing back there to keep the motorhome from dog wagging and it does rock back and forth when you drive it down the hwy and it did need an alignment real bad and mostly they are fixing what was not installed right in the first place, and yes I had a budget for all this My Gulf Stream Sun Voyager just looks so heavy and was riding low in the back to. during the test drive they found allot of things that could be upgraded because of the F53 frame by Ford has some issues but for now just need to fix and make it road worthy They did find out that my front end is 500 pounds heavier than the back end and the front tires were cupping so sometime down the road I will need tires at least for the front I could have them rotate them. In another words there were some major issues under the undercarriage what you get for buying something from the auction. The only thing the past owner did right was installed the Banks Power Pack. After I bought it I found out later after driving up to Virginia City Nevada that all 4 rotors were cracked and the pads were so worn down and some were missing parts of the pads that If something went wrong coming down the Geiger Grade Road which has a 13 mile 6% down hill grade from about 7,000 feet would not have been a good day you need your brakes and learn how to use your 3 2 1 gears and let the engine do your breaking for you I have seen allot of motorhomes driving with their breaks on red lights (Mostly Gassers) all the way down the mountain and just smell them breaks. I'm just trying to make a better ride while driving this monster I really like it everytime I pass a fellow motorhome I get the wave like something to do with a hello wave and I don't know them so I wave back.
  2. Hello, I have had my 2007 Gulf Stream Sun Voyager 8368 37 foot. She weights about 22,000 lbs.For about 6 months now and it only had 44,000 miles on it, I had the brakes serviced Right after I bought it and found out that all 4 rotors were cracked and two brake shoes were missing or just too worn down. Was informed that the last owner was what they call a BRAKE RIDER-- never learned to use his gears and his engine to do the braking for him and I have a gas coach, so a complete brake job cost me around $3,750. Well the RV place that only does suspensions upgrade recommended to me that I install a Safe-T-Plus Motion Control Unit for the front steering, also replace the shocks. They recommended Koni's for a total of 8 shocks 2 per wheel. Also a Trac Bar Rear End for side play (Dog Wag) they call it. Also Sumo Springs front and rear to help out the leaf springs. Before I do all this, they and I will go on a drive test to see what I really need for the suspension. I have driven one RV that had about $5,000 dollars worth of suspension upgrades and that gas coach drove like a Cadillac no making turns and your front end dips down like you are going to touch the pavement and no rocking while driving if you are driving on a roads that has ruts and I really noticed a big difference from they way mine drives and the one I just drove with all the upgrades, so by that said has anyone else recommend anything to help out or to add to what I would like to do to the suspension upgrade? My goal is to travel cross country in it and just want to have a more comfortable drive. The Banks systems they installed sure makes a difference when driving on the hwy.
  3. I installed a SUMO I softener. It is the smallest one I have found. There is a SUMO II and Sumo III if you have the space. The SUMO I is only 9.3" wide and fits perfectly between my basement slide and the wall to the utility hook-ups. It is NON-ELECTRIC and recharges on demand according to the settings you program into it. There is no clock so it will recharge when it needs to. You can start it manually to minimize the chance of it going into bypass mode at an inconvenient time. The control is by Kinetico. It is small capacity but fine for the two of us. Discharge hose is just a small plastic hose that dangles out of the bay door when parked. I cycle it when we hook up and am careful not to discharge onto nice grass. Gravel sites are preferred. I do not like the idea of hooking the discharge line to the sewer system where contamination might occur. I ran in-and-out lines internally so it is stationary in the basement. The campground water goes through an inline filter and then into the softener. Be sure to remember to put the discharge line outside the coach when you are parked.
  4. The Henderson’s Line-Up crew (and their SuperSteer manufacturing division) recently wrote about their experience installing the LiquidSpring adaptive suspension system on a 2016 Tiffin Allegro, including details about the installation and before/after test results (http://www.supersteerparts.com/blog/2017/11/liquid-spring-rv-test/). There’s a lot more detail in their article than in my earlier blog posts about this mod, but their observations are very similar. The biggest difference was seen in their measurements of ride harshness over potholes and large bumps, as shown in the graph below. The LiquidSpring-modified coach showed a substantial improvement in shock and vibration; surprisingly, the same coach equipped with their typical suite of rear suspension mods (more and better sway bars and shocks plus a trac bar) actually had a harsher ride than an unmodified coach! Their final recommendation is to combine the LiquidSpring rear suspension with the usual assortment of front end enhancements (including Koni shocks, Sumo Springs, and a Safe-T-Plus) . . . this is essentially how my 2017 Tiffin Allegro 32SA is currently outfitted (see https://openroadscapes.com/blog/2017/10/21/from-springs-liquidspring-part-3-road-test).

    Safe-T-Plus

Even though I had my Safe T Plus installed on my 39' gasser, and not a DP, I agree with everything Wolfe10 said. To improve my handling I had to have the front end aligned, properly adjust my psi in all tires, and have Sumo springs installed all around. The Safe T Plus helped me re-center the steering while driving and made me more confident I could keep from rolling over in the case of a steer axle tire blowout. I would estimate that every modification I did leading up to the Safe T Plus install improved the handling of my gas coach 60%, then adding the Safe T Plus maybe improved it another 10%. I was going from Florida to Illinois last spring to start our summer travels so I made an appointment at their factory outside of Atlanta. There was no waiting and they completed the install and road testing in about 90 minutes.
  6. There were two things I had a hard time getting used to with my Challenger. Number One was finding places to get in and out of easily for gas. I only pull a small aluminum trailer with my Harley on it but it is still sometimes a challenge to fuel a 38' coach pulling anything. The Number Two problem was that F-53 chassis. If I wasn't paying attention when a big truck passed me I could easily end up on the shoulder. I weighed it, properly aired the tires, had front end aligned, did the CHF, and had Sumo springs put all around. After that $2,000 plus of improvements it is much better but as soon as that V-10 sees a little hill up ahead it starts screaming at me! I certainly miss my 6.7 Ford diesel and would not go full time without a diesel coach.

  8. If you have them, would you do it again? Do you have 2 or 4? If you were to install only two, front or rear and why? Expensive for 4, but my MH is rough riding on most roads! Bridges, ruts, and concrete strip drive me crazy. I average about two big trips, mileage wise, per year and 8-10 three-four hour trips. Last year we were out 94 days. So trying to justify purchase.
  9. John, First, 70 is well faster than most of us drive, particularly with older coaches. The good news is that your leaf spring suspension is one any spring shop that works on OTR trucks will be very comfortable checking out for you and/or working on. I am not "anti" Sumo Springs, but not sure adding spring rate is what you need. As far as checking, nothing beats a good "crawl under" the coach. Since you are not on air bags that could fail and trap you, you are pretty safe going under there. Check things like sway bar bushings (inexpensive and easy to replace AND a high failure rate item), check spring shackles, U bolts for torque, etc.
  10. What do these last four posts have to do with Sumo Springs? Seems like you guys should be using personal email or some other part of the forum. The last four posts and this post should be deleted by whoever is managing the forum. Rodger S.
  11. To add to this discussion, I ran across a youtube video by "Ken Perry of Henderson's Line-Up explains the product benefits of the Sumo Springs Vs. stock bump-stops. These "Airless Airbags" will help to eliminate body roll and improve handling of your motorhome. Please visit http://www.HendersonsLineUp.com/ or schedule an appointment at Henderson's Line-Up by calling (541) 479-2882. Henderson's Line-Up, 417 Henderson St., Grants Pass, OR 97527." I have read a lot of positive posts about RV owners who have had good luck with Hendersons.
  12. Sumo Springs are an aftermarket add on. Prominently advertised in Motorhome Magazine. Google them, get a look, and then crawl under Your motorhome.
  13. As for Sumo Springs I installed the maxums front and rear and I can tell you all, they do exactly what the company says they will. I went from having a death grip on the wheel to now one hand smooth ride (no Cadillac yet but much better). They cut way down on the jarring you would get from bridges and potholes. Sway in the wind and body roll are now manageable, so for me the money was well spent and has corrected more than one problem at a time as would have been done by a track bar instillation.

  15. Welcome to the forum. Have you installed a rear track bar? I have several friends who have and say it was the most effective at stopping the tail from wagging the dog. I can see how the Sumo Springs can help locate the body to the frame. The company that can make smooth transitions on and off bridges smooth expansion joints will get my vote. Air ride will not stop the sharp bump regardless what some claim. I don't think low pressure tera tiers would stop all the bump. Bill
  16. I recently added Sumo Springs to a 2006 Workhorse W-22 Chassis. The Sumo Springs help with side sway and makes the coach handle better on curves, with passing trucks, and general control of the vehicle. There is a much more solid feel to the handling. It helped a little with potholes and bridge expansion joints, but not very much. It is worth it to me to have better control of the motorhome. It is not like having air ride, but it is not bad for a vehicle with leaf springs. The shop that installed the Sumo Springs was impressed with how well the coach handled.

The W-22 chassis has a long enough wheelbase (57% of total length) so that "tail wag" has never been a big problem. The Sumo Springs do seem to help the tail wag that I do have, since the rear Sumo Springs are attached to the frame at the top and to the axle at the bottom. This seems to help the rear of the coach from swaying too much.
  18. I think a good rear track bar may help rear end sway when passing or being passed by big rigs. look hear http://blueox.com/chassis-performance/ In order I would do the track bar then the heavier sway bar then maybe the true center. I would do a good check drive after each upgrade before doing the next. There have been several articles on the Sumo springs lately. http://www.supersprings.com/sumosprings_overview_solo.asp Bill
  19. hi guys, we made the air pressure changes and have put a few miles on. it definitely helped, but need to go to the next level. experiencing a great deal of driver fatigue fighting the cross winds and road in general. looking at Sumo springs, track bars and shocks. there are allot of options. could use any input.
  20. We have Sumo springs, rear trac bar, and Safe-T-Plus steering cylinder. The ride is great. It will cost you some bucks but well worth the ride improvement.
  21. John, I had a similar problem with our Class C we had. My driving was a white knuckle experience down the highway, I had a horrible side to side sway (felt like it was going to tip over) and when anything would pass me it would draw me into them and shoot me off the road onto the shoulder as they passed. I replaced my factory sway bars with a front and rear kit from Roadmaster, replaced all of the factory shocks with Bilstein and installed a Rear track bar. It eliminated my white knuckle experience and body sway but it did make it ride rough. I would weigh the unit first and adjust tire pressures accordingly like Rich mentioned first, then consider upgrading suspension component's if it still is uncomfortable to drive. The link below is where I purchased such items; you can also try an internet search to locate the best pricing for the items. With an F53 you will need to know your GVWR before you can shop. It is located on the chassis identification label in the coach. http://www.supersteerparts.com/products/motorhome--rv/class-a/f-53-chassis/index.html I has a friend that drove a 2016 Tiffin open road with and without Sumo springs, he told me it was a completely different drive from one to another, might be something to look into, I have no experience with them, here's the link; http://www.sdtrucksprings.com/sumo-springs/ford
  22. Sumo, is Manufactured and Distributed by Super Springs International. Made in the USA.
  23. Sumo suspension has been around for awhile, Tiffin does offer it as an option on their gassers. From what I have read on the Tiffin Forum, those that have had them installed are happy with the results but it is certainly not a cure all for the ride of a truck chassis with leaf springs. And yes, I have owned both a gasser and a DP.
  24. You know/ I have always liked the smell of a diesel exhaust. One of my failings. I have the current issue of Motorhome magazine here. The Sumo Springs are advertised in color. They have the same cheap looking construction of a different set that I tried on our Georgie Boy II 34 Gasser probably around 1990. Kinda flimsy looking to me IMHO.
  25. Opinions are like noses, every has or has had one. As being an engineer for the past 32 years, I take every opportunity to find the history of a product and use it in order to decide whether or not to make any changes. Lack of knowledge on any subject only leads to sometimes costly mistakes. So, if you like a gasser, and want to add Sumo Springs, and hope that it is not snake oil by a lot of hype from advertisement then go that route. If you have already have taken the plunge and want to express an honest opinion on the subject, then tell others that is what you are using, and are well pleased with the results. You might even want to become the over 101 years of hands on instructors. Most everyone on this forum have owned gasser motorhomes in the past and wrestled with trying to make them climb a hill better, or make the ride smoother, make it easier to handle. So please leave opinions, but not criticism of those who are working hard to help others. In the course of my career, I have evaluated many new items and find that 75% are useless, or not as good as what is already working. Many happy trails, Kay
