  1. Ray, the thermal switch used in the Atwood furnaces might work, they are set to open at 190 degrees.High temp coated wire and some creativity. I feel real bad, you drive all the way to the East coast and its like we are yelling at you to go back home. The temperatures are not expected to get out of the teens for the next 10 to 15 days and into the single digits - some with a mines in front of them up around the great lakes. We got through Christmas and it is now to cold to pack the coach - no quick departure for the sand and sun for a few days. Travel safe. Rich.
  2. bburns, Replying to your voltage readings. Unplugged from shore power, inverter OFF charger OFF Voltage at house banks batteries tested in series: 12.88v Good Unplugged from shore power, inverter ON charger ON Voltage at house banks batteries tested in series: 12.25v A little lower then I would expect, BUT if there is any load Microwave clock, florescent light or some other light load it is well within the nominal range Plugged into shore power, inverter ON charger ON Voltage at house banks batteries tested in series: 14.38v A good float level voltage. 3. Just noticed that there are 3000 plus guests on the forum this AM. Early paper has not arrived, the Christmas presents are all opened, or the forum makes for some interesting reading with the first cup of coffee. Sure glad that so many guests might be finding the forum helpful or interesting reading. Welcome and join the conversations. Rich.
  4. Hum, The Moderator takes a few days off. Time out notices will be in the mail. Having an uncle for the Base CO can make for some interesting conversations. Rich.
  5. David, the description would lead me to look at the coach battery connections ! The process would be to clean the battery cable and terminal connections. I do use a Drummel tool with a wire wheel brush. Steel or SS. They also have a nice soft brass wheel and polyester wheel that cleans the finer contacts and wires of oxidation. The Drummel is one of my must have tools that can be used for a number of jobs with the proper bits or brushes. After cleaning the cable and battery connections - spray some battery terminal pant or just some oil on the connections. Isolates the metal from the off gassed acid. Also , protects the battery mounting hardware. Battery condition can be checked with a meter and each cell can be tested using a hydrometer made to test the acid charge level.(Remember you are working with Sulfuric Acid) Same type tool one uses to test the freeze point of the cooling system - BUT they are not interchangeable !!! Rich.
  6. Welcome to the FMCA forum! Model has 4 slides, are you referring to the Kitchen / Dining area as the large slide? When trying to move the slide manually - you mentioned that only one slide moves. You are referring, that only one of the reals is moving, when you turn and motor by hand? This could indicate a broken sheer pin or a damaged system drive. Who supplied the slide hardware ? Is it hydraulic, Electric drive or A cable system ? Rich.
  7. Good Morning Ray ! If you are where I think you are, over the next few days - it might be just a little white. The weather is not bad for the next 12 hrs. maybe? Then the next 5 to 6 days temps will drop into the teens and single digest not to far north of you. Rich.
  8. AH, Those senior moments ! The thought and wishes is what counts ! The same to you and to ALL a Good Night. Rich.
  9. Joe, You might take a look at this link. Lines Available in SS or other materials They can make about any tube for any make and model vehicle and engine. If they do not - sending them the tubing information and bending pattern / even an OEM line as a pattern and see what they say. They also make Brake lines and kits. 10. The Coach we bought has 2 furnaces. A 20,000 BTU and a 35,000 BTU. Living at the Northern Latitudes - that was a selling point. With high winds(Big lakes do not restrict them) Ice storms and some impressive snow storms and the loose of power> The Coach is our backup for lost power and extra sleeping space for those family gathering or a warm retreat for others cough with few options. Note, just found this in one of the newer HR owners manuals and I can not remember ever seeing it before. NOTE: It is not advisable to use the furnace to heat the interior of the motorhome during transit. ? Find it interesting, because we have traveled in 10 deg. weather and 400 cubic feet of volume can get cold with only the engine cooling system as the heat source. Rich. Additionally - made up a full sized insulating sheet of Mylar R-4 for the windshield and the entry door. Both have a single pane of glass. Makes a big difference. They do not take up much space when roiled up and very lite weight.
  11. Rick, Joe's thoughts regarding some pictures would help get the creative juices flowing ! Thinking you have a Raised Rail chassis with sealed Bays. Just for clarification - are you running wiring for ground effect lights or marker lights? The pan you are referring to is the one covering the bottom of the bays between the front and rear Axles. Wire path ways - IMHO. could run under the bottom pan, through the top of the bays or along the outer edge, tucked behind the area where the bay doors seal. Once ! one has a main conduit or race way - the wiring could be run the length of the coach. Standard wire loom would work to cover the wire from the duct work to its termination point. Rich.
  12. Is your coach equipped with the push button style panel - to read the tank levels? you might try to get some help and or information at this link. http://www.holidayrambler.com/technical-assistance Rich.
  13. Peter, Glad that you have her up and running ! Are You driving around the Island or taking the tunnel under the channel and traveling around France? Have a Marry Christmas and Happy New Year. Tip a pint for you cousins across the pond, we are a few hrs. behind you on this side of the pond. Rich.
  14. OK, Kay, A little off the subject, but if one was to build a house on the trailer - would it classify as a class C. Really ingenious. Good example of some Red Neck Engineering. Allot of creativity !! Rich. It is all about having fun !!!!!! I did save a picture !!!
  15. See there are some new ones added to the Forum to accommodate questions and answers for our new members. No clue to who added them, but thanks for covering items I thought might help and make the newest class of RV owners feel welcome. Towing with 5th Wheel or Trailer Maybe Towing a 5th Wheel or Trailer - Not to sure a Trailer is doing the towing ? Rich.
  16. Rewillia, I did some rewiring on our coach marker lights and used some 3/8 in. PVC with some 90, 45 and 30 degree fittings to construct a conduit. As I routed the conduit, I also passed the wire through it as each section was attached. Running wire through all the twists and turns when the whole run is assembled is just not doable. Used clamps to hold the sections in place. Did not cement them, just pressed them tightly together. Keeps the wires protected, out of the way and looks very much like an OEM install. Sprayed the assembly with undercoating. Never drilled a single hole for the conduit, just the ones needed to place the clamps. If needed one could drill a hole or 2 just big enough to run the PVC and then seal the gaps with some sealant. Rich.
  17. Think we need to look at the final bill. Tax deductions and some other deductions written in to it, but the wording is still kind of up in the air. Info from the account will arrive over the next few days. Rich.
  18. You just know that birds just tend to gather where ever they are ? Congratulation's Herman - more road trips for sure. Rich.
  19. Red, There are a number of variables. How does B-20 fuel impact injector performance/life? B-20 has good and bad effects on items. Offers a higher degree of lubricity, but at the same time it tends to clean out the system and that process can increase the amount of items that can be collected in the fuel filters. What is the mean time between failure (MTBF) of the injector? I have not found any real good information that charts the number of failures do to specific categories. Water in the fuel, algae build up, the brake down of fuel lines and seals caused by Bio fuel, Electrical issues in the injector or issues with the electrical connections. Injector pump pressures affect injector life. Injectors have failed due to all the listed items regardless of miles driven from a few thousand miles to 200,000 miles. Same engine can have one fail with in a month of service - while the other OEM injectors last for years. What is typical failure mode of injector? Solenoid? Burned or carbon tip? Sludge? Plugged? All the above. Rich. Edit, This is a chart of the different Diesel fuel suppliers Cetane levels - Fuel mixtures involve a lot of Chemistry. all these fuels will work in Diesel engines, but it is only a small part of what can effect engine operation. Cetane-werte der Diesel-Marken:BP (Amoco branded), 51Chevron, 49 (51 with Techron D)ConocoPhillips, 48 (California 48-53)PetroCanada, 47-51Shell, 46;Sinclair, 46Marathon 45Exxon/Mobile, 43-46BP, 40-42 (Powerblend 47)HESS, 40-45Husky, 40 (Max 41-45)Sunoco, 40 (Sunoco Gold 45)Holiday Stations, 40-43Love's: 40Pilot: 40Valero: 40Sheetz: 40Flying J, 40
  20. DEF Testing. Joe posted some information on a DEF tester a few months back. Thought it might be a good addition to this thread. DEF Tester Link-http://www.acustrip.com/cgi-bin/proddesc.cgi?s=41108 1-973-299-8237 The use of a clear container-like a clear glass caning jar, to pump or pure some DEF into and if it looks milky. It has started to brake down. Rich.
  21. Eric, Good picture and a Bellows issue would cause issues. Rich. link to a supplier in Europe - https://www.steinbock-industrie.de/en/products/bellows-taylor-made/vulcaflex-moulded-bellows/?p=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8Nra4oGd2AIVGLjACh2eaAHhEAMYASAAEgJ-2fD_BwE Curious to know what kind of material they made the bellows out of? Thinking that one made out of Silicon would be much more pliable and tougher too. Kind of all comes down to the cost factor.
  22. Eric, here are 2 PDF files that cover the same series Dometic toilets. One is Vacuum Flush and the other is Manual Flush. Can one get a kit to convert one to the Other ? A phone call might get you the info. needed. Rich. SeaLand_VacuFlush-3000-Series_6455.pdf Sealand_3000 series toilet_manual.pdf
  23. 2010lexingtongts, Looked through the brochure for you coach and there is no mention of a furnace. Find that unusual. They do list a 13.5 BTU Roof AC unit and a 15.5 roof AC unit with a heat pump as an option. Wonder if you could post the Make and the model of the furnace installed in your coach? From the description of the startup cycle, it sure sounds like there is a Atwood or Suburban unit installed though. This is a link to the brochure https://library.rvusa.com/brochure/lexington2010.pdf Rich.
