If you are going in January you won't be traveling with 700,000 others. Most of them have already been in the South for 2-3 months. The roads will be clear and open just waiting for stragglers like you to get to FL. Everyone will be leaving FL by April 1 so getting the in January is pretty late!

RV Satellite Service Recommendation
BillAdams replied to Dotson1813's topic in RV Internet to Go/Staying in Touch
Nearly all of the Dish HD programming is on the 129 satellites. If you only receive 25 channels on this ancient antenna but you are paying for 100+ channels I see at least 1 problem here. If you don't then that's good for you and Dish is happy to have you pay full price for 10% service. Dish has HUGE issues with reception for domes built prior to 2013(ish). Saying Dish has no issues means you don't understand the problems being discussed here. -
Trying to do much dry camping in a 70+ foot rig is going to be a challenge. There are some dry camping campgrounds in Quartzsite during the season and there are some smooth routes into some of the BLM lands out West but you are going to need to do some serious scouting ahead of time to ensure you will be able to get in and out safely.

FMCA Needs Your Help With New FMCA Website
BillAdams replied to smithy's topic in General Discussion
I signed up as well but I just got an e-mail saying that they only wanted active FMCA members to help with this project. Thanks, but no thanks! No interest in experience, just membership. -
I am not mad, just disappointed. I cast my vote with my checkbook and I will not be renewing my membership. If new benefits come down the road that would make this membership valuable to me again I can rejoin at that time and get my F192987 back again. They stopped sending a magazine a year or so back anyway so the last year was just a donation.

I click on a shortcut on my desktop to this forum directly and the page opens what I consider to be right away. Certainly less than 3 seconds which for a cellular connection is the same as every other forum I click on.

Connect On The Go - Round 2
BillAdams replied to BillAdams's topic in RV Internet to Go/Staying in Touch
OK, if you say so. I don't see it that way but I need phone service. My monthly bill is certainly not cheap but it's the best I could find. I was going to move to AT&T to save on my DTV service but it was even more than Verizon. These folks have us by the footballs and they know it. You just have to figure out what works for you and go for it (or not). -
To clarify, if you use the single receiver option you will be pointing to the Western Arc satellites, 110, 119 and 129. Not all the programming is available on 72 any longer. The Networks ever never there but now more have been move back to 61.5. When designed the idea was that both receivers could watch any channel by pointing to 72.7 (but no Networks). Now, you are better off pointing to the WA and just knowing that both receivers will have to watch programming coming from the satellite selected by the main receiver.

Connect On The Go - Round 2
BillAdams replied to BillAdams's topic in RV Internet to Go/Staying in Touch
YOU NEED 2 DATA PLANS if you want to use data for your phones. You can drop your phone data plan from 24GB to something like 4-6GB and use the FMCA MiFi for your data while at home (both phone and computer). -
Take all the measurements not only for the opening but what you believe to be edge to edge clearance of any available space and then do some leg work. Take a tape measure as a 32' TV is not a 32" TV. Different manufactures have different layouts in all sizes so you just have to be patient and wait until you find that one that's just right. There are several options for mounting once you find a workable solution and we can discuss that further if you find something you think will work.

I like to complain about anything and everything but I have never had an issue with speed and this site. I only use cellular connections so no ground based internet and I don't run any ad blockers so I always see the side bar ads. Despite these shortcomings the site opens just about as fast as any other forum I visit.

Invoice Pricing From Freightliner/Chrysler
BillAdams replied to Reeltachy's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
I don't believe it is misleading. There is an invoice price and offering a deal at 1% below invoice is a legitimate offer. -
Invoice Pricing From Freightliner/Chrysler
BillAdams replied to Reeltachy's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Of course that's not what the dealer pays or the program would be a customer paying 1% less than the dealer paid. I don't think anyone thinks that's how the program works. -
You can make it work with OTA as well with an analog/digital converter if you really, really, must keep it. The controller could be in the closet and the box will allow Cable Pass-Through if you select the right box (off gets Cable, on gets over the air). You might find that you can fit a very nice flat screen in that space (overlapping the side rails on one or both sides) and either adding a filler above or putting a sound bar up there for good looks and great sound. There are a number of options out there but MY OPINION is that leaving an antique analog TV in that space is the worst of these options. I really got hooked on HDTV and can't imagine going back. Especially, OTA HDTV. I watch the Super Bowl using my Batwing as it's a much better picture than satellite HD. I keep the DTV Genie running as well in case I want to replay one of those special moments (think wardrobe malfunction).

Connect On The Go - Round 2
BillAdams replied to BillAdams's topic in RV Internet to Go/Staying in Touch
This MiFi has nothing to do with your phone data. You still need to pay for a phone data plan if you plan to use your phones when you are away from the coach. I use a very low data plan for the phone and use a MiFi (not this plan) for the majority of my surfing AND, when home, for phone data. You must have both for your phones to work where ever you travel. -
Invoice Pricing From Freightliner/Chrysler
BillAdams replied to Reeltachy's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Yes, 1% of $40,000 is $400, if the window stick is $60,000 and $40,000 was invoice pricing, you would buy the vehicle for $39,600. -
Since you already have silicone on there, you have to ensure what ever you use will stick to silicone. Unless you are able to completely remove the existing caulk (and I mean completely) , many caulks like Dicor (my favorite) will not stick. Just be sure to check the compatibility. Good luck with the project.

Need Help Getting Class B License In Lancaster PA
BillAdams replied to gfitz302's topic in Laws and Legislative Action
Yep! Not sure there is any other answer. -
I actually hope to be able to post a similar picture of NJ tomorrow! Can't wait!

GS usually has a "first time member" price of $70 or so. Sounds like what FMCA is offering here. Has FMCA roadside always been available for $69 or is this a "we just changed out entire business profile" offer?

What do you mean when you say you are looking for information on sealing the exterior? Do you have leaks? Do you know where these are? Is the entire coach of concern? Any additional details (plus what Brett mentions above) would be helpful.

The antenna amplifier is located in the head of the antenna and needs 12V power to turn on. The wall plate switch is the source of that 12V power and that why it's called a power supply. It is also an A/B switch allowing you to swap between the OTA antenna and Cable input. No one is calling anyone a dummy but thought some would be interested.
-
It's a power supply and not an amplifier!

I am not using a MAC so I don't have to worry about someone entering "root" and taking me down! I have not ever noticed the FMCA forum to be slower than any other and I really don't have any complaints about the software used here. I only use cellular connections which are noticeably slower than any ground based internet connection and I still find the site to operate quite well.

NO. Coax is coax.
