  1. Looking for Full Hookup campgrounds in the UP Michigan. If there was one place to park a 41' DP and day trip out of with the toad, where would you do it from? Looking for that campground with a beautiful view of the lake. Tom, I was sold on the link above until I realized they don't have sewer connections, any others up there like that with Full hook ups?
  2. Bruce, Philadelphia....I recommend taking the double deck bus tour around the city. We don't live far and thought it was great. Campgrounds; the closest is KOA, its about 45 minutes west of the city in the suburbs out in the country, link below; http://koa.com/campgrounds/philadelphia/ While in the area, take a trip to Ocean City NJ, nice beach town, huge boardwalk with shops and such. Couple of places to check out in Philadelphia beyond the Liberty Bell and historic stuff; http://www.readingterminalmarket.org/ http://www.genosteaks.com/
  3. I wash ours in the driveway, while traveling if it gets too dirty for me I stop at a truck wash or ask the campground if they have a recommendation for a wash service that comes through. Often campgrounds have a list of RV detail companies that they allow to wash/wax rigs at the site. At home I use a foam cannon to apply soap, wash/scrub with a horse hair brush and rinse with the garden hose. Takes me less than an hour for all of it. Doing it tonight in fact, but I am polishing the wheels also, that will add a good amount of time to the process.
  4. RSbill, I wasn't adding beans....I had my coach and Obedb's coach next to you and we were all parked in a valley with little air circulation . If I add beans my DW yells at me, THATS NOT REAL CHILI, also we don't do sweet chili, if it makes you sweat a little its good! I also cant stand those large beans, I prefer black beans on the side. I carry the following cooking items in our coach; http://toughtripod.com/ http://www.traegergrills.com/shop/grills/town-travel-portable-series/ptg/TFT17LLA.html https://www.weberbbq.com.au/weber-q/baby-qs/ https://www.weber.com/US/en/grills/smokey-joe-series Tripod for cooking over the campfire, I have a Lodge Dutch oven that hangs from it and the grille that came with it. Traeger for smoking meats/fish or my favorite.... Chipotle wings. Propane weber for fast cooking and cool down i.e. roadside cooking while in route, usually at a picnic area. Weber charcoal for campground cooking (better flavor than the propane) I have no outdoor burners, anything like that goes over the fire in the Dutch oven.
  5. Looks like high resistance to me. Either the starter is drawing excessive amperage or those connections were loose/corroded prior. From the paper schematic above in the middle of all of that is a lug that feeds the starter motor. How many Chassis batteries are on the starter circuit?
  6. Concrete draws the oils out of human skin and rubber products, probably other stuff also. If you have ever kneeled on concrete for a while or walked around bare footed you will notice your skin dries out, same happens to tires. Creating a barrier is an added level of protection to your tires. Tireman could explain it better than I can.
  7. Still my favorite campground, just told my wife Sunday that I want to go back and spend a few days there

    Tire Inflators

Missyjoe, Welcome to the FMCA forum! If you can confirm you really only have 58 PSI in that tire, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INFLATE IT! Call a tire service in to address the issue. There is a good chance it will explode, at 58 PSI it is considered a run flat, A Phaeton should be equipped with a G rated tire, 110 PSI max pressure, 58PSI is too low to run it without damage. It really needs to be inspected by a qualified person, personally I would replace it and the tire along side of it, as it was most likely overloaded carrying that weight.
  9. My favorite Michelin quote "there is so much riding on your tires". Stephen123, sounds like its time to go shopping....ask your employer if you can purchase tires with their discount, I work for a trucking company and it saved me a bundle. I even had our Michelin rep involved along with an engineer for advice on what tire would suite me best.
  10. Blake, glad they sent you something, every bit helps
  11. Brett, interesting....my first RV experience was a converted bread truck with household furniture and flip down bunks, my Grandfather built it on the 70's, would I go back to anything that small.....NO WAY! If I presented anything smaller than a DP to my other half there's a good chance I'd be sleeping outside . We shopped for comfort and space, not fuel economy, one doesn't purchase a 40+' motor coach dreaming about fuel mileage, honestly I was surprised how well this unit performs. We moved up in size, gained a HUGE amount of comfort and quality and as a bonus gained 2.0 MPG from the last coach that we weren't expecting. I monitor MPG's on occasion, for me its to be sure the unit is performing properly and give me an idea how many miles before I stop, so we can plan it out for the best price. I reposted this for someone shopping for a coach, this is the age old question and I get it asked often.
  12. Ok, to my surprise I unrolled the windshield cover and found all of these. I thought it was only the windshield cover... JACKPOT!! So, for the time being I put a step ladder and some wood planks in the coach basement to see how they perform. If they work as good as I suspect I might modify them with magnets.
  13. RSBILL, what did you use to sew it? Type of machine and needle? Mom might have a machine I can borrow
  14. RSBILL, I'm on board with recycling the cover I have already. Magneshade windshield cover $549.00 . I have no way to sew it but I'm going look it over later today, maybe purchase the magnets and have the local upholstery shop tackle that portion. As far as the tool to hang it, that shouldn't be too bad to fabricate. more to follow.......
  15. Just filled the coach up and to my surprise our MPG was 9.4, during that time I had the generator running also that totaled 42 hours on this tank and Jeep in tow. Our trip to Florida in the end of June we were averaging 7.8, I could feel the headwind which felt like I had it from PA to FL. I am completely satisfied with this!! I have noticed the new tires have been a help keeping my RPM's lower since they are taller and now all 6 are smartway certified which I didn't have before. At one point on this post I had clocked 10.05 before on an all flat ground trip to MD from PA, smaller Toad on that trip. Unfortunately when we did the same trip this year I didn't clock our MPG.
  16. I brought this back to see what has changed over the last few years and how a specific brand has held up. Shopping now for a windshield cover, I figured the test of time is a good test, if you have experience with a specific brand that would be great information. Tom, inconvenience is my current problem, the shade that came with the coach requires a ladder to install and has snaps. Rsbill brought up a good point, I wonder if I can install magnets to my existing shade? However it's black, wonder if that will be counterproductive? Would you purchase in beige for heat reflecting?
  17. Five, thanks for the feedback! We have one now from kool covers I believe but it has snaps, its such a pain I have never used it, I only use the wheel/tire covers.
  18. Anyone have an update, maybe some pricing on Magna Shade? I sent them an email, looking for our windshield on a DP. If you have it did you do the install yourself?
  19. I use google maps, print the directions. Once off the highway I use google earth to take a peek at what I'm getting myself into. Especially if there are rivers or railroads, then I zoom in on the height signs. DW uses truckers Atlas, FMCA atlas and "the next exit" book. She's old school and prefers paper books. Between the two of us we got it covered. The map pockets behind the coach seats are full
  20. First trip out with EEZTIRE TPMS. So far I'm impressed! When you begin to move it starts displaying each tire pressure and temperature and will automatically scroll through the coach and Toad tires continually. When I got to our destination I had no false alarms (or in route) for us this was a first since we had Pressure Pro. More importantly no false alarms at 2am!! I do not have the repeater and had no problems picking up the Toad sensors. I really like the mounting options and different bracket configurations it came with, so mounting it was simple to the instrument trim existing holes.
  21. many, many discussions on this topic, above is one on one. Garmin would be my #1 choice, followed by Magellan. Rand doesn't stand behind their products. I have had good luck with Garmin.
  22. YUp, KISS is almost always the best route. Only someone in the automobile/truck/RV industry can really appreciate KISS!
  23. His beer hand is very muscular, lots of exercise
