I can see purchasing a used portable box type, not something that was previously installed like an air force one or M&G etc....unless it was a refurbished unit from the manufacture. I am going to call M&G today and see what my options are, so far they have the best pricing from my research in systems and I like their design over a cable type. My Blue OX portable box type bit the dust, when I called Blue OX they told me they no longer support that model and parts are not available(I have the older Patriot with the blue casing). Honestly it was starting to become a nuisance to pull it in and out. Thank you- 34 replies

Old coach.....yours is 1 year newer than ours . My DW doesn't complain about the noise, unless she trying to sleep. Bill thanks for the Heat pump explanation. Puff, I have never stayed any place long enough to be charged for electric....if I was I would find a way to cut the costs also.

I had a tower throw a bunch of sparks out and begin to smoke when I flipped the breaker on at a KOA in OK. I jumped out of my shoes that day, not to many kind words came flying out of my mouth at the same time either. I had my left hand on the tower and got a shock, ever since this is how I connect. I always just hold the breaker with my right hand and never lean on or touch the tower with the other. I have got in the habit of turning it on....no sparks.....plug my tower tester in....it gives the all good verbal notification...breaker off...plug my surge protector in....breaker back on, plug the coach into the surge protector. At home I flip the breaker off....connect my surge protector...breaker back on, plug the coach in while the surge protector counts down to connecting. Be careful plugging in, most CG's are good, but some are not. Don't judge the book by its cover.

Three choices here also. When I pull into a CG I turn on the Aqua Hot electric and diesel. Diesel will not come on for a while since the engine has everything all heated up and the electric will hold it unless it's below 50. I will us the portable ceramics first, Aquahot stats get set so when the ceramics can't keep up the AH takes over. I never use the heat pumps, except for when I'm working inside the coach and its above 38, Unless I'm exercising the generator or AH. Puff to answer your question, I only run the heat pumps if the CG has excessive outside noise to drown it out. We love the AH, it's very quiet and delivers moist heat. How do the heat pumps produce heat, electric grid element or compressor/condenser heat? I have little to no experience with these.

You are correct, we have step stools around already...not for me, DW and oldest daughter.Funny, we always had Queen beds, we bought this coach it has a King, now we only sleep on Kings (upgraded the house) Lol

If I was in need for RV flooring Ernie would be my only phone call. I sanded, stained and polyurethaned the floors in the house, in fact I have to do the upstairs hall way and one bedroom in June. I've go that down to a science, RV, I'm not touching, I have seen Ernies work (posted photos) very nice! ObedB my wife wanted the wall to wall carpet, I won with hardwoods and area rugs. It's not often I can say that......lol You know, you met her, it's ok she doesn't read this...lol

Rumor has it the I75 detour is no place for a large vehicle. Narrow windy road partially washed out. If it were me I would drive the extra miles and enjoy the scenery.

Recliners shipped, I am supposed to have them on the 10th. Puff, they are being shipped by ABF, lol. They will probably arrive early given the way they drive! I will post photos in the gallery section of the current interior then the finished product. Has anyone ever install regular house furniture into a motorhome? I was reading a post on Facebook and a lot of people just set regular house furniture in their coaches, one guy put wheels under his sofa so he could roll it in and out of the slide for transport. There is something about slamming on the brakes and your couch running you down as it launches out the windshield that makes my hair stand up. Is it just me putting too much thought into this?

Carl, our coach is loaded with gadgets and gizmos, I love that stuff, ask ObedB he was over yesterday to chat and get the grand tour. I will say it all works to make traveling more comfortable.

Lol, I guess I pack too heavy. Outdoor we use a tough tripod, over the fire and I have 2 Lodge cast iron kettles to hang from it or the grille it came with. I also carry a Weber CharQ, and a Weber Smokey Joe. I also have a Weber 200 propane baby Q at home, which I am going to use to get rid of my propane under the coach this year (different story from another post) so the CharQ will go in the garage for now. I use the Smokey Joe specifically for my low and slow Chipotle wings. I also have a Coleman propane slow cooker multi use gadget I use if we are boon-docking. Forgot, I also have an electric griddle I use for outside breakfast. I keeps the bacon splatter outside, lol I love cooking over the fire, this year Easter dinner will be a Smithfield hickory spiral smoked ham over the fire wrapped in foil all day.

I would find it very strange your coach doesn't have a fresh water fill. Are you sure it doesn't fill through the city water connection and have a valve in the wet bay to flip that will direct the water to the tank?

Thanks Jim, I have bought stuff from them in the past, great people. I installed my Coolant tank from Source last weekend. Nice product a little pricey but it should last and piece of mind is worth it....I guess. While I was back there I replaced a bunch of wire wrapping and covered a few small hoses that were in a location that they could chafe. My coach already had the OEM upgraded Nylon tank with the new design low coolant sensor, it was leaking at the fittings on the top and sides, the holes were elongating in the Nylon. Not sure how long it was in there but I was getting tired of removing the fittings and re wrapping them with Teflon and putting them back in, so I just went this route, I figured it would be once and for all.

Same here, we really enjoyed our old gasser coach, yea it was a little loud pulling large hills, it did it like a champ and I will admit I ran up some pretty big mountains with the V10 at the posted speed limit with the cruise set crossing the country both times. The "noise" you only really notice it when your pushing it hard and you get use to it, I was just sitting here trying to recall if there was ever a time where it was horrible, cant remember. If I hadn't stumbled onto this DP and the good deal it was we would have most likely bought a new Gasser Class A. The most annoying noise I created, the K&N open air filter had a drone sound like an old 4 Barrel carburetor on a muscle car at certain RPM's, in a class C it was right there and while it sounded like it meant business it did get annoying at times, but again....that was my fault, not the chassis. I never had any mechanical problems with that coaches powertrain, I replaced the spark plugs, coil boots and all fluids at 55,000 (when we bought it just for a baseline), water pump and fuel pump at 75,000 miles just to be safe and all coolant hoses, at that time and it was 12 years old, seemed like a good time to do so. We traded it in at 97,000 miles and 16 yrs old just routine maintenance, very very easy on my wallet.It still ran like it was new, never used any oil.

Campcop, you are correct. Fords publications on their website have not been updated since 2014 . Funny, I logged on and cruised through their shop manuals and according to their "Parts and Service Division" a 5 speed was never an option, lol. It goes from a 4 speed to a 6 speed, no mention of a 5 speed ever existing. I did locate a 2016 F53 brochure and it does list the "Torqshift6" as standard, no manual for a 2015 and the 2014 is a 5speed despite what their shop manuals state. here's the link 2014, although it doesn't say its not current or a 2014 http://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/motorhome/ 2016 link http://www.ford.com/commercial-trucks/strippedchassis/trim/f53classamotorhome/ Not one to bet but my guess is his chassis is a 2015 on a 2016 coach, very common...if not the "Norm". And the 6 speed you will most likely not see until next years body build.

Converting Fluorescent Ceiling Fixture to LED for $11 each.

I bought the precut strips with the adhesive backing from Cabin Bright http://www.cabinbright.com/x-factor-fluorescent-tube-replacements/ and replaced all of our interior lighting from wall sconces, 18" ceiling lights, 12" ceiling lights, and the dimmable pods (24 through out) and the vanity mirror lights with LED from Cabin Bright. Cost more but made in the USA with a nice warranty, plus you can get different brightness and colors (bright white or more of a yellow like the outside sun). I was uncomfortable with some of the other products found on the web and if you are doing an entire coach upgrade the discounts were very steep. The owner of the company is an RV guy just like us, I met him and his wife at the Hershey show in 2014 at his booth. I looked at the LED tubes and they were very expensive and my goal was to get rid of the ballast in the fluorescent lights, since I had a few that were bad and several bulbs with black ends. I removed two tubes and replaced them with one center strip of LED, still much brighter than before. Kudos for the thought of the LED's you can cut to fit, that was creative.
