  1. As noted, all depends on your state of residence and the weight (GVWR) of the motorhome. Contact your local Depratment of Motor Vehicles or Department of Public Safety. Ken
  2. Our daughter and hubby have a Winnebago Minnie Plus, travel trailer and it has been good to then aside from a few trim issues. Seems to be better built than most in that size range. Lance and Arctic Fox get good reports compared to the Thor and Forest River products. We have seen a couple Olivers and Escapes. They are pricey, but seem well built. Ken
  3. Safest wishes to all that are currently serving and to those that have served. Many thanks. Ken
  4. Many years ago, I took the Coast Guard Sailing and Seaman Sailboat course and it was very valuable. This was after racing sailboats for several year, I still had a lot to learn. I think the CG boating course should be required for all before being turned loose with either power or sail. Ken
  5. UrbanHermit, when we negotiate, to buy a car, truck, RV, I let the sales person know that I worked in a technical sales area for almost 40 years and had probably read more books on sales and attended more sales seminars than they had. I work on one price number or I am out the door. I want one price, including all taxes, fees, etc, out the door and nothing else. We were buying one truck years ago and when we got back to the finance office, he starts the add game for a "Protective Finish Sealant", etc. I reached over grabbed the contract, pulled off my check and ripped the contract, got up and walked out. By the time I was back to my car, the salesman and manager had caught up and were upset. Said I could not just rip it up and leave. Told them, no sir, and got in my car and left. Later that day, I got a call from the owner saying that they would honor the deal and wanted me to come back. Told him no way unless they dropped the price another $500. He came back and said he could do $500 more in accessories of my choice. I really detest auto and RV sales people. Ken
  6. Mine gets pulled and checked and water heater flushed yearly. Since we have added the sediment filter, carbon filter and the water softener, it will go two years. Ken
  7. Wrong description of a Thermal Expansion Valve ....TXV. The TXV regulates the refrigerant into the evaporator coil by measuring the evaporator pressure and the superheat leaving the coil. There may be a temperature sensor embedded in the coil to sense icing and this would shut off the compressor on low coil temperature. Ken
  8. Just exact opposite of this report. We liked the Oxygenics so well we bought one for the house when we had a sticks and bricks. Been full time 7 years and love the Oxygenics. My wife has really thick hair and loves it so much better than the one that comes in an RV. Our daughter got their first RV and after one trip replaced the shower head with an Oxygenics shower head. All I can say is you must have really low water pressure. Ken
  9. Installed a Vesta instead of the FP. My wife does like the drawer design as if you drop a spoon in at the last minute and it misses the basket, you have to unload the whole thing to get that dang spoon. The Vesta unit is a front door with a roll out basket ....much easier to use, plus it cost less than the FP and is just a tad less deep front to back. Ken
  10. The government seems to operate on,,,if he can spend that much on what they consider a luxury, they can bleed you a little more. Ken
  11. Been a Lifetime member for years, back when Good Sam was really GOOD. Now, it is not so good. We only use Camping World/Gander when they have a sale and loss leader item. I guess I should look into exactly whose lifetime they mean. Ken
  12. I cannot count the times I have requested a senior national basic fishing license. Three is no money in it for them to represent a bunch of senior citizens. Ken
  13. I have seen a number of short bed trucks with broken windows or dented cabs and a slider hitch. The driver either forgot to slide it or was lazy and thought he could get by with out sliding it to the rear. Long bed trucks are made for a reason. Ken
  14. The new secure drivers licenses require proof of who you are. You can present a certified birth certificate or a passport as proof to the DMV in Texas. We just renewed our Class A licenses and they were happy with the passports. Ken
  15. NY will ignore Federal transport laws and consider a stop for food or fuel as a stop in the state. And they watch for out of state tags from places that they know everyone is a gun totoer and any reason to pull you over. Ken
  16. I belong to US Law SHield and spoke with a program attorney before I traveled from Texas to New York. He advised not to chance taking a fire arm (pistol or shotgun) to NY. They recognize ONLY a NY permit. If you are stopped will most likely be take to jail. The penalties are pretty harsh there. They do not even allow transport in a locked gun safe and ammo locked separately. Ken
  17. Make sure you are hooked to the fresh water connection and not the black tank flush. Ken
  18. Gasoline has a much lower ignition point than diesel and with the high compression of a diesel, will be prone to knock and premature ignition. https://www.bellperformance.com/blog/accidentally-mixing-gasoline-and-diesel-fuel As little as 1%, that is 1 gallon in 100 gallons. You have about 15% gasoline. I would not start the engine and get it to a diesel shop to have the tank drained and the engine checked. Contact your engine manufacturer. Ken
  19. Coleman RVP heat pumps have a temperature sensor in the outdoor coil set fro 18 to 20 degF. The coil operates approximately 20 degF below the ambient,,ie 38 to 40 degF. When this limit is reached, the compressor is shut off and the furnace is started. If the indoor temperature is 5 degF below the thermostat set point, the furnace will also come on. The unit will cycle three times on the outdoor sensor and then lock out the heat pump for furnace only operation. To reset, you need to turn the unit off st the thermpstat. I am not sure how the Dometic units operate. Ken
  20. txtiger, you can attach the cell antenna to a wooden painters pole. The higher the better. Ken
  21. we also us the WeBoost 4G set up. In addition to the omnidirectional antenna we have the Yagi directional antenna on a push up pole attached to the rear ladder. Most of the time the omni works fine, but at times we do need the Yagi to get a connection. Ken
  22. Tell the insurance adjuster that you will need a place to live while the RV is being repaired. They can pony up for an apartment. in 2014 we had a truck repair and the other fellows insurance paid for our campsite for 3 weeks while the repairs were being done. Ken
  23. Boils down to you need more truck or less trailer. Ken
  24. We do not normally take our RV close to the coast. last winter. We were in a coastal city with salt water and marshes on 3 sides for 3 months. We rinsed and washed the RV every other week and we still suffered some corrosion. All of the key locks had to be worked and oiled. Other aluminum and chrome items suffered some pitting. The Winegard batwing had to be replaced as the internal circuit board had corrosion. We will not be spending any time that close to salt water again. It is not worth it. Ken
  25. Wayne, we were at Raccoon valley in July. Sorry for the loss of your pup. It is rough to see these sweet souls go. Ken
