My MH would not start a few weeks ago, ran three seconds and quit. Called Good Sam and they sent a tech who got it running by removing and topping off all three fuel filters and adding some fuel to the fuel/water separator in the far back of the engine compartment. Then he primed it and I tried to start it...fired up on the sixth try. It ran fine, but I tried to start it several other times later and it was cranking too long. The tech said it was loosing prime. Took it to Freightliner on Monday. They could not find anything wrong at first...couldn't see a leak and it tested good on the computer. I was in the shop and noticed diesel fuel on the rock guard. Long story short, they kept it over night and pulled the water/fuel separator off and cleaned the gasket and all the fittings and reinstalled it. Test drove it and all is well...except for my wallet. Tech was $165 and Freightliner was $475. The latter includes a $45 fee for use of the computer and a 3% charge for using a credit card. Their rates have increased as well...normal shop rate is $125/hour, RVers get a special rate of $135/hour.

I use Shell Rotella also. Sams sells cases of six gallons...I buy two cases.

Doesn't really make much sense for the AH even to be wired to run off the inverter. On the road, the engine will supply enough heat to run the furnace except on real cold days, then I turn on the burner.

When ever backing or going around sharp corners when parking, I adjust the mirrors so I can see all the way down the sides, including rear tires. Also, always use a ground guide.

When you look at some of the documents those guys wrote back then, they were pretty darn smart. And, the older I get and the more I think about what they wrote, the smarter I think they were.

How many ounces in a can of Seafoam?

Brett, you should moderate some of the other forums on the Internet. By this time many would have been closed down and everybody who made a post off topic would have gotten a letter of reprimand. Your patience, and sense of humor, is appreciated.

If anybody is considering traveling to Canada, there is a great article in the Jan issue FMCA magazine on page 84. It is very detailed and covers just about everything. I've been to CA several times, and, after reading that article, have absolutely no desire to ever go again.

We seem to be having a run of OPs who make posts, stir us all up, then ride off into the sunset.

Flat Towing A 2017 Lincoln Continental
five replied to FMCANationalOffice's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
I'd really be steamed if I bought a Lincoln to use as a toad ('cause that's the only reason I'd buy a Lincoln) then found out it could not be used as a toad. I kind of doubt they would be like Walmart and cheerfully refund my money. -
Brand New Unit: Found Crack In Roof Day After Delivery

Lots of good suggestions. Check the date of manufacture on the sticker on the body below the driver's window. -
Okay, thanks.

The codes are different based on which "generation" Allison you have. One of my Allison books says that 4th generation Allisons are in '09 models, but doesn't say what years that covers. Get your Allison serial number and call them, they'll have all that information.

Don't follow you, Bill. Are you saying REV and FL do conversions?

Here's his post: I have just installed two Trojan 24 AGM 12 volt house batteries replacing my four 8 year old plus 6 volt Trojan GC2 AGM batteries. My consideration was cost and how much dry camping we do. The 12 volt batteries have 152 AH rating for two versus 430 AH rating for the four 6 volt. The only need we have for energy when not connected to shore is when stopped during travel and need to heat something in the microwave, lights occasionally and for our residential fridge. The cost of the 12 volt was $249.95 each and for the 6 volt was $329 each. These prices are without sales tax, shipping, etc. So, for the new setup the battery cost alone was $499.90 and for four 6 volt would have been $1316.

I use pins, but that is part of my preflight inspection if the toad sat outside all night hooked to the MH.

A couple of points, I have a Detroit Diesel...it does not have a wait to start light and, before turning the key, you must wait until all the lights on the dash quit flashing and all the beeping stops. The key does nothing until the prestart flashing and beeping stop. Good information, Brett, thanks.

I have a friend with a 2008 American Eagle. He recently swapped four AGM 6v for two AGM 12v. He does virtually no dry camping. Don't think he's been out on a trip yet, we'll see how it goes.

To me, road service is a toss up....some good, some bad. We had a RF blow out in May 2015, on I 55 southwest of Joliet, IL. Spent five and a half hours about 12" off the road getting blown around by 18 wheelers waiting for GS. When the truck finally showed up, the driver apologized for the wait and said 295/80R22.5s are RV tires and hard to find. So there was a long wait, but an explanation. A 315 tire would have been much faster.

Carl, those rates are really cheap. REV main factory or remote factory rates are $140/hour, my closest Freightliner dealer are $110/hour.
