  1. Any will work, I have a Blue Ox. No problems.
  2. Are you holding the button long enough for the locks to retract? The first several times we tried to retract the FWS we also thought it was not working...until we realized it takes a while for the locks to retract and the slide to start to move.
  3. I have one that looks like this one. Got it Wal Mart for $100...we like the wind speed/direction it provides. However, my ladder is not vertical and it takes some work to get the pole straight. Got to be a PITA, so I took it home...it's now in the back yard.
  4. We pulled in to a CG on Sat and our neighbor was in a 1999 Itasca MH. This was his first ever RV, had it three weeks and was on his first trip, Ft Worth to Wisconsin. He was anxious to tell me all about it....how great it was and that he had taken it to a tire dealer to check the tires. The tire dealer said the tires were fine...then the told me they were originals! I showed him the date code on mine and gave him the normal speech about aging out way before wearing out the tread. I very strongly encouraged him to go to a different tire dealer and get some new tires before going any farther north. Hope he did.

    Super Singles

Many years ago, we had an inside dually blow out. If it had been a super single, we'd have had a bigger mess than we had...and been stranded.
  6. Agree, 295s are hard to find. When we had our blow out last year, we were 50 miles from Chicago and it took GS five hours to find one...for $800. They said the reason it took so long was because the 295s are primarily for RVs. If it was a 315, they would have had one much sooner.
  7. My post of 10/6 spells it out...can't make it any clearer.
  8. If you remove any type of access cover on any of these RVs, you will find all sorts of junk, trash, pieces of wood, saw dust, pieces of insulation and more.

Yes, I know about Daimler owning DD. Are you saying the DD is a newer version of the Series 60? Here are the numbers for mine: 500 hp, 1,650 ft/lbs of torque and 12.8L...it's used primarily for LTL freight according to their publications.

Thanks, I've talked to Joe about it.

Do you know what the difference is between a DD 500 and a Series 60? There is very little info on the DD 500, had a very hard time simply tracking down an oil filter.
  14. You can also use the shadows of the vehicles...depending on where the sun is. After my second VN tour (as a helicopter pilot, first was on the ground), I started fixed wing training. One old crusty instructor told me one way to be sure you are clear of other aircraft when taxiing is to watch the shadows on the ground. If the wing's shadow on our aircraft is not going to hit the shadow of the other aircraft, we were clear.
  15. I guess AC is behind the times...they've used it for the first time, putting it on some '17 models (Eagles and Dreams) as an option.
  16. There is more to towing than the hitch rating: Tow rating is the lower of: 1. Coach's hitch rating. 2. Coach tow rating. 3. Chassis tow rating (sometimes different than the coach's). 4. The difference in weight between the coach's GCWR and the coach's actual weight when ready to tow.

Carl, have you looked at any of the AC Eagles? My Eagle has a DD 500, 1,650 ft/lbs of torque and 12.8L. Although relatively new to MHs, there are thousands out in the commercial truck industry. No issues....yet.
  18. Carl, I agree that the chassis is certainly a key part of ride quality. However, I did not consider that in my earlier comment. The Prevost, Newell and similar chassis are not something I'd consider...I don't think my Chief Of Staff would approve funding for one of those MHs. Re the tags, some manufacturers have come out with tags that turn.
  19. The optimum ride would be a 45' coach with a tag. Ride comfort would be reduced on a shorter coach with a tag, and more so with a shorter coach and no tag. That said, I can't see where the very small reduction in ride comfort would even be noticed by reducing the coach length be a couple of feet...as long as you have the tag.

    Mystery Fuse Box

Good advice, Carl. The item you noted most often not done is the monthly cleaning and lube.
  21. Thanks for the offer, Herman. I've been by your fair city on a number of occasions...once when I missed the turn for US 82 West. However, my passport has expired...they'll never let me cross the border.

    COACH BATTERIES

Some of the information above is not pertinent for all coaches, thus not correct for the OP and others. It seems all manufacturers have a different method of charging batteries. I've posted this before, but for clarification, I'll do it again...this is how my batteries are charged...or not charged:- When plugged into shore power. Coach batteries are charged. When that charge reaches 13.3, the coach batteries let the charge pass through and the chassis batteries are charged as long as that charge rate is 13.3 or higher.- When driving. Chassis batteries are charged. When that charge reaches 13.3, the chassis batteries let the charge pass through to the coach batteries and they are charged as long as the charge rate is 13.3 or higher. It might not make sense, but that's how it works.
  23. Thanks for the input. When we got a new toad, Nov 14, had a dealer hook up the wiring and put on the base plate. Never has worked right. In the middle of our last trip, all lights on the toad quit working. Tested the MH plug, it was fine. Took the cover off the tail lights and saw a wire dangling. Secured it, drove the toad behind the MH (pull through parking), hooked it up, everything worked. When it came time to leave that CG, we were caravaning with friends. Never even got out of the CG before he called and said the passenger side lights were all out...running, turn and stop. Took both toad rear lights off, all appears to be secure. One suggestion we got was to add a bulb to each tail light, hook up appropriate wiring and make the lights work like that. Haven't done anything as yet, other than check to see that all wires are secure.

The new Cummins 500 hp is an ISX 12. If you are looking used, the ISM is a 12. Don't think they are putting any ISMs in MHs. We have a couple of friends with the 500 hp ISM...seem to like them fine.
  25. Here's one of the largest salvage yards in the country...it's in SW MO: http://colawrvsalvage.com/
