  1. On Hwy 287 going to Amarillo there are two really nice rest areas. One is east of Childress and another west of Childress. Don't laugh, but when you get out and go to the fatalities there are two signs. One tells you that the buildings are storm shelters and the other warns you to beware of rattle snakes. Also there is a Wal-Mart in Childress that has an area marked for Rv's and trucks. Plus several good places to eat. I say that tounge in cheek since it has been years since I stayed in Childress for work. Herman
  2. I have thought about the space after removing the tank, In my cluttered mind I visualized a large box extended from side to side to hold all of those long items we all carry, Ladder, awning pull rod, extra lengths of sewer hose (capped of course), Flag poles, and so on. Right now in Texas we all have a real money savings going on. No need to run the hot water heater. The sun on the coach will keep the water in the tank warm enough to shower and wash dishes. If you don't have an insulation on your water hose you can almost get scalded before the cool water get through. Herman
  3. I have always wondered about "Federal Excise Tax". Do we pay state and local taxes before or after F.E.T. ??? Are we paying Tax on Tax? Gotta pay it, Gotta hate it. Anyone up for dressing like an Indian and going to Boston? Might look funny but I bet we could have a hella of a good time> Herman
  4. Bill, brought up a point in my ole memory bank. Back in the early 80's there were 30 amp coaches that would operate both a/c's. There was a selector switch that would cut off one unit so the other could cool and vice versa. Might Kurt's unit have such? Sorry I can't remember the manufacturer. Herman
  5. Cm, Try contacting a Ford dealers parts department. Ask the parts man for a transfer case neutral switch kit. There is a kit, you just have to get to the right person. Good luck. Herman
  6. Nope, just setting in front of fans in the shop, trying to cool off Joe, as I'm sure you are aware of, the solenoid on top of a starter has several functions. When power is sent to the starter by turning the key, a magnet will move a plunger. Which engages the starter bendix and connects the power to turn the starter motor and disconnects the power to the accessories momentarily. When the key is released the solenoid will disengage the bendix and release the power to the starter motor and reconnect power to the accessories. All of this is done by the movement of the copper plate by the plunger.. The lugs and plate arc each time contact is made and need to be cleaned or replaced. This is very clear in my mind and I hope I have conveyed it clearly to you. Herman
  7. Jeff, Next time don't have a NASCAR mechanic aligned your coach.? Yes, you may have separation in the core of one of the tires, which may cause pulling. A number of years ago Firestone had the same issue with their tires. Get it checked out soon. Herman
  8. Bill, If you can access the mounting area from the back, I would do just as you said. Make a mounting plate and use S/S bolts. You might also, if space allows put a backing board in that has much wider surface than the mirror base. This should help stop the flex in the fiberglass. Herman
  9. Bob, Yes starter solenoids can be repaired and or replaced. It is a bit simpler to pull the starter but can be done without doing so. When you open the solenoid you will find a copper plate and lugs. Both might be burnt and should be cleaned. In 90% of the cases that will be the problem. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. Herman
  10. Refresh my memory. Wasn't it the Grand Cherokee that has problems with the transfer case? Didn't they throw lots of time and money into components only to find it to be a program error. ???? Herman
  11. DD, I'm not disagreeing with you, Caster is very important in the alignment of any vehicle. both Caster and Camber will effect both pulling and tire wear. Camber will Cause pulling in one direction as well as, at times severe tire wear. Caster may do the same. Toe-in if out will make a vehicle wander. Making each tire try to center itself. On an IFS all are very easy to adjust unless something is bent. But on a Solid axle the Camber is another story. Many year ago I had to bend Axles to adjust the Camber and it wasn't easy or fun. A prime example of alignment everyone can relate to is a shopping cart. Sorry, I know you know all this. It may have been how I phrased my responses. Keep up the good work. Herman
  12. Oh Bill, you were doing so good. Like so many things "Camping" means different things to different people. If we get right down to it Driving a Motor home or pulling a popup,Trailer or fifth wheel isn't camping either. But it is to many folks. So lets be kind to each other, voice your opinion but please don't condemn someone for their's. Parking, Camping or what ever you may call it, all have guideline to follow. But most of all the best rule to follow is common courtesy, to the place you are in and to the people around you. Please bring back the good Bill. Herman
  13. DL, We ran across a new spot to over night, Cabela's. Where they can they have a area behind the store for Rv's and trucks. They even have someone that will come out and check to see if everything is Ok. No problems with generators. Herman
  14. Wide one, You can go to Camping World and get the cover. They will be white. You can take a panel from the coach to a paint and body shop that can match the paint from the extra cover. I am sure other rv stores will have the cover but I got mine there. Good luck. Herman
  15. DD Under stand, but I believe his unit is a solid front axle. Most of the time it is toe in then caster and then camber, God forgive if it's the later. Takes really good shop to correct camber on a solid axle. Herman
  16. Dan, Contact Monaco with your coach number. Ask for tech service. You can do it on line. Ask for the alignment specs. Then go to your local truck dealer and ask where they have their truck aligned. If you have constant wandering it sounds like you have a toe in problem. Constant wandering indicates it is toe'd out too much. Herman
  17. Darn tooten OB. I can do the liften. I lift the phone to call for service. Then I lift a beer and wait for someone to do the liften. Herman
  18. Do tell. Is this something new to Ford? Herman
  19. Carl, You need to get a different dealer, I mean druggist. Hope they are helping and look forward to seeing you in September. I may try to have a "Forum Meet and Greet" get together in Shawnee. I will look into it and post it here. Herman
  20. Bill I'm impressed. Most people have no idea what a Preposition is let alone how to spell it. We live in an area where the only land line phone service is Verizon and no fiber-optic cable available, so the only service we could get would be dial up. We could get WiFi from one of the satellite services but would need to install a dish at our expense and pay a fairly high monthly service fee. Therefore we use the hot spots on our phones and have a large data plan. The down side of that is that we live in a metal home. Wall, roof, the whole package, which creates very low signals. I am considering some sort of booster but haven't looked into it very much yet. I do follow what is written here and am trying to keep it in the old, but deterating gray matter. Herman
  21. When determining the total Amp Hours do you just add the A/H of each battery together to get the total? (100 a/h per bat. X 4 bat. = 400 a/h?) Herman
  22. hm, As you have found out, there is a lot of heat in the cockpit area when traveling in the heat of the summer. Some folks will run their generator and roof air to help keep cool. We have a curtain that we use behind the pilot and co-pilots seats. It helps the dash air from trying to cool the entire coach and keep the cool air in front. However there are times when we will run the dash air and the gen/roof airs and still be uncomfortable. Don't you just love the Southwest? As for the glaring sun, check with MCD Innovations in McKinney, Texas. They can install a power sun visor that will cover the entire front windshield. mcdinovations.com 972-548-1850 Good luck and keep cool. Herman
  23. Neil, Your best bet would be to contact the Department of Public Safety aka Highway Patrol. They will be able to tell you what roads are passable and which ones to avoid. Say a prayer for the folks in the area where flooding occurred. Herman
  24. Eric, I memory serves me, the Miata is a rear wheel drive. Contact Remco and see if they have or can make a Drive Shaft disconnect. A drive shaft disconnect on any vehicle will allow the unit to be towed whether standard or automatic. There are several other tow bar manufacturers that may be able to fabricate you base plates. remcotowing.com 763-253-4757 Herman
