  1. If you don't want to fight the traffic, which is horrible, you should stay at a campground with a shuttle bus. We have stayed at the American RV Park on I-40 East for the last two years. Great park with shuttle. Fills up quick with reservations, but you might still be able to get in. They all raise their rates during the festival. If interested the web site is www.americanrvpark.com They also take care of getting tickets, etc. Have access to the VIP tent, etc.
  2. I use Rotella synthetic 5 - 40 for diesel engines. I find that it lowers the operating temp a tiny bit, but I have noticed a slightly higher MPG. Of course, a lot of things could contribute to that. I've just used synthetic oil in all my vehicles for years, and probably just a matter of personal preference.
  3. Our coach came with a Eureka unit installed mid-coach. Works great, lots of power.

    Jack Pads

Basically the same as nitehawk. Only real difference is that I used Liquid Nails to glue two of the squares together. Been using these for 3 years with no problem.
  5. In my opinion the Winegard Traveler is the best. It is also expensive, but is very easy to use, and provides full HD capability. Also can support multiple receivers with each watching their own programming. We use Dish, but the Direct TV model works basically the same. Of course, there is now a new model to match the new Direct TV technology. It will also support the two reciver DVR. While it is expensive, it can be moved from one RV to another. Ours is on our second RV. In the long run the convinience and performance are worth the expense. Just my opinion. I'm sure there are others.
  6. It does what it says. You only have to use it a couple of times to get your money back. Certainly there are restrictions at some camp grounds for peak season, etc. But, I think it is a good deal, considering everything.
  7. Mustang Island has several RV parks with walking access to a beautiful beach. By walking I mean via a 100 yd boardwalk over the dune. Try Pioneer Beach Resort; we have stayed there several times. Good park. Of course, it will be hot in August, but wasn't that why you were going to the beach? If you go to Mustang Island via Corpus Christi, you do not need to use a ferry.
  8. We made this trip last year. Went from Missoula to Columbia Falls on 93. Good road. We stayed in Columbia Falls at Columbia Falls RV Park, friendly owners and very nice park with great butcher shop next door. Not too far to Glacier Park. I wouldn't recommend any type of RV on the Sun Road. They were doing a lot of work on it when we were there, long delays, and narrow. We traveled on 93 to Canada. Small border crossing with a very short wait. Be sure you understand the rules for entering Canada, if you want an uneventful entry process. We stayed on 93 until Hwy 1. Very few mountains until you reach the national parks outside of Banff. We actually stayed in Canmore at Spring Creek Mountain Village. Just an o.k. park. Most of what you will want to see is on or off of 93 north of Banff. Great trip!
  9. We find the Westwind RV & Golf Resort to be the best mix of amenities, location and friendly residents. We spent a few weeks there in January 2012, and liked so much we spent February and March of 2013. We will be spending December thru March there this winter. It is centrally located to shopping, etc. Lots to do at the Cheers Lounge, restaurant, golf, pool, dances every Friday night, stage shows every Saturday night, etc. You really only have to leave the park to shop for groceries. If you decide to try Cocopah, all the sites seem to be located on the golf course well within range of bad shots. Nearly all the sites have screens to deflect errant golf balls. Plus Cocopah is located a long way from anything else in a not too good part of town. Most of the winter residents in Yuma are from Canada. Normally very friendly, full loving bunch.
  10. I have used the WaterStick. It is not nearly as effective as the upright softeners. In some locations it will only last a day or two if the water is really hard. While it technically can be used at any angle, lying flat in a bay makes it fairly ineffective. The additional problem is that it must be totally disconnected from the MH to recharge. Again, possibility of corrosion in the storage area as when you connect and disconnect you will get some salty water in the storage bay.
  11. I've been using a RV water softener for years. It works best when not in a compartment. The biggest problems if you put it in a compartment is that backflushing and recharging the softener becomes very hard to accomplish. Since you must recharge the softener with salt, you could cause corrosion damage to the compartment. I set my softener/filter on the ground next to the coach, and carry it in the toad when moving. There is no more risk to the softener from freezing than there is to a normal water hose. In fact with the salt content in the softener, there should be less risk of freezing.
  12. I'm not sure where people get the information that Navistar may sell Monaco. That is pure speculation with no basis in fact.
  13. I have been towing 4 down for a long time, and I've never heard of the necessity of a skid plate.
  14. Be sure you order Uninsured/Under Insured Motorist Coverage. Covers you for the many people in the US who do not have insurance.
  15. We changed to Verizon due to the lack of coverage by AT&T. I'm not sure what you would have to do to exceed the basic 5GB. We use our laptop everyday, and have never even come close to using 5GB in a month.
  16. My DP with air brakes has a connector for an air hose. I use this to keep my tires up to pressure on the MH and the Dingy. I have 110 psi in the front tires, and the connection supplies more than adequate pressure. Are you sure you don't have a connector?
  17. I am surprised the TV stays on. Most TV's in front of the driver in RVs are set to turn-off when the ignition is turned on. I guess when you release the parking brake, the DVD is set to turn off. Usually the TV will shut off when you turn on the ignition. Safety function to keep driver from being distracted by TV while driving.
  18. I have been using the Roadmaster Sterling with the SMI brake system for over 30,000 miles with no problems. Easy to hook and unhook, and the SMI brake system is great in that it is a system that requires two events to engage, not just the brake lights. Gives you really true proportional braking.
  19. We have a 21.3 Cu. Ft. Frigidaire in our unit that came stock from the factory. Have over 16,000 miles without any problem. Inverter keeps it going fine when not on shore power for apx. 14 hours before AGS kicks in. Of course, while driving the alternator keeps the batteries charged. Like someone else said, the best thing you can add to your MH!
  20. I can't speak to your exact model, but on my 2011 Monaco Knight the surround sound only works when you are playing something on the DVD. It does not work for the TV or dash radio.
  21. I assume you have a good virus and firewall protection program installed. If not, that is really a must when using your computer anywhere, but particularly on an unsecure Internet connection. Since you have a Verizon phone, you can upgrade to a smartphone with wi-fi hotspot, or you can get a seperate wi-fi hotspot device.
  22. We stayed in Kanab, UT. Visited all from there with Toad. Beautiful area, and campground nice. Stayed at Kanab RV Corral. Drives to various parks are very sceinic. There is also a super place to visit and tour, the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, a must see. The sanctuary also has a few RV sites, you might contact them directly.
  23. We would recommend Columbia Falls RV Park in Columbia Falls. Nice park, nice staff, easy drive to park.
  24. Our 2011 Monaco Knight came with a Frigidaire Model FGHC2335LE residential refrigerator. It is so much better than the Norcold we had in our last coach. Keeps constant temperature, ice maker, thru the door ice and water. 22.6 Cu. Ft. with touch controls. I suspect it fit in the same size hole as the standard Norcold. Of course, inverter and house batteries are sized for the job, along with AGS.
