  1. In -20, my coach engine would have a space blanket and a heavy comforter on it...me, I'd be in a room with a roaring fire in the hearth and a hot chocolate in hand. Geez! The 9 degrees we had here at the ranch, was as cold as I ever want again!!!
  2. As the saying goes, "Happy wife, Happy life"! You only need it when the cover is out, not while camped.
  3. tn. Under electrical, there is a post about Allison 3000....look at it, he's got a Beaver also, and about the same problem you have...he finally found the problem! Please read the last 2 or 3 entries!
  4. Since I live in Galveston Island, TX., I went up I-45N to I-59N, then stay on it to I-20E by Longview, TX and follow Herman! I have also taken I-45N to I-10E to Baton Rouge, LA., then I-12E till it re joins I-10E to Mobile, AL. I-65N to 280/80. Another option is to take I-10E to I-75N outside of Lake City, FL.
  5. No Mark. Prior to mid 80's it was standard....then the 10's came out. What is standard today? I don't know! My last 3 coaches have and had Aqua Hot (continues hot water as long as water is available and gray tank is dumped or valve left open)!
  6. Bill, the times that I have been in Canada, I carry a couple of thousand CDN and I pay cash....so much easier! If I was going to spend all summer, get a debit card from a local bank. Outside the US, I prefer to use local cash unless your in one off the countries, like Croatia where the local money(Kona) is not recognized by any other country and Croatia will not give you back any other currency....I still got 750 of their money = US$14.50. Same with French Polynesian!
  7. BrokenViking. Welcome! We are glad to be of help anytime! Now, your turn, why the handle?
  8. Jim, your right and it also helps to keep the weakest link together! Chris. Nice work. Rich. Stay away from the programs that like to eat your files....hope you got all back!
  9. Ray, I had one on my Bart and it worked good. They where used a long time before the coach industry found another way to advertise!!! Thank You, I had completely forgotten about them!
  10. Always nice to have easy to understand information on the Forum! Thank you.
  11. You might want to get a piece of rug for your cover when your driving...The sun will make it hot and reflect the heat and blinding light, onto your DW ! Then she will make you see light's
  12. Rich, 280/80 is the scenic route, I took it 2 years ago and it's a mix of one and 2 lane road, lots of little towns, had no problem just the occasional farmer who forgot that the truck has 2 more gears! 90% of the road is good. You know how wonderful I-10 is from Exit 100 to Henderson, & Slidell area, well I-20 is no dream either in Jackson, so your choice is just as good as any. Most, if not all 50A sites in Perry, last time I was there, comes with full hook up!
  13. Every coach that I had or knew about, Class A's, had a 6 gallon water heater and you get used to it. No, we did not have liquid soap back then! Around 1985 they came out with the 10 gallon heater, we still did not use it all.
  14. Rich, as always, that large computer file of yours comes thru again! The VIM indeed has a Allison power relay. However the Allison gear selector must be in N (neutral) for the relay to work and allow you to Start. Any additional information on that part, you can get from Spartan! We are always vigilant, so my job is done. Check the connections at the "Buss Bar"!
  15. larry. I wonder, how many people on this Forum know that you live next to Santa Monica or remember, your in OJ land.. Sorry, off subject. Glad the system works for you...how long does it take to hook up and what tow bar do you use?
  16. Jen. I asked Linda (my significant other) about any flow restrictions on a 2.5 to 3gpm water pump with L fittings...she said there would not be any noticeable difference. Linda was in the water well drilling business for 25 years. The main difference between the 2 pumps, that I have found is that SeaFlow is used primarily in a marine application and the water tank is generally below the pump...SurFlow has been building pumps for the RV industry for over fifty years and the water tank is generally at level with or above the pump (back in the 70's the pump was at the same level, inside the coach as the water tank was under the bed. Now, will a $30 dollar pump work as well as a $60 dollar one, over time? I think Brett or Joe S would have the most knowledge about the 2 pumps....they both have or had boats with full inside plumbing. FYI. Linda replaced her 3 chamber SurFlow in December, with the new 4 chamber SurFlow "Revolution". She and I both taught it was not working, we could not hear it, but the water flowed on demand (she has a 2006 Phaeton 40DP). The pump was a 2004 model. I'm having mine replaced Monday, my coach is a 2010, my pump is a 2004.
  17. We can only suggest things to you. Have you put a volt meter on your ignition solenoid? Have you checked the wire from the ignition to the solenoid, all it takes is a loose ground wire!

    2019 Rallies

Not going! Have had my fill of California traffic! Thanks anyway.
  19. Thank you Jon for your insight, and information. The only thing left is to make sure that the chassis is rated to tow 12K+! There are a lot of coaches out there, both gas with Banks system and DP's, that tow 10K more than they are rated to haul...Safety for yourself and your loved one's is paramount, so is the safety of others on the road to be considered. So, to answer your question. No you don't need 450 to 600 hp, what you do need is a coach that will handle the load, within the law. Yes, we have laws now that was not there in 99! I have had coaches since 1967 and a lot of things have changed in that time to now! I will suggest you get a pre 2006 coach, that way you don't have to mess with all of the new emission laws! A 300HP gives you as much torque as a 395HP, just takes a little longer to get there! Also, don't get a trailer that's almost as long as the coach, you'll have the tail wagging the dog!
  20. F448151...did you have something you wanted to add or comment on ?
  21. Tom. First off what kind of coach have you got, second where in Mexico are you going and third is are you ex military with USAA insurance? If you have USAA your covered on your policy for up to 100 miles. If you intend to go further than 100 miles, then the first thing you'll need is a Visa from the Mexican Embassy her in the States! I was in Rocky Point (Porto Penesco) it's 80 kilometers from US Boarder in AZ. I got Mexican Liability insurance $127 for 10 days! That was in March of 2014 and my coach was worth $392K at the time! I had no problems. I would not get Mexican full insurance, on the fine print, it only covers 20% after a $26,000 deductible.
  22. Mike. Yours is a Newmar, from what I have heard and read in the last month, they come out of the factory pretty much aligned. As for a gas coach, I have not heard anything, but would be surprised at a big difference!
