  1. Richard, welcome. Is that all the bay doors or just one? How many slide out's do you have? As Bill said, this could get lengthy without knowing what you have! Some of mine, open up with one strut, some with 2 (most common) and I have 2 bay doors that are side open. All are aluminum. Some coaches don't have any struts, just a latch attached above the max height of door....Think we need more input from OP. Carl
  2. What size Fifth Wheel are you currently pulling? I have 2 good friends, that pull FW trailers, only because they already have the trucks. CH has a 40 foot that measures out at 44 foot and pulls with a 3500, true 1 ton Duramax and DH, has a 45 foot Custom trailer, that measures out at 51 foot and pulls with a F550. They both run the flats at 70, I run at 64...only time we see each other on the road, is when we hit the 6%+ hills and I pass them, I run the gears! They don't. We all get around 6.5 mpg. My thought has always been, if you want great mpg and zip over the mountain roads? Buy a car and stay in Hotels! As Bill said, when you get behind a 18 wheeler, enjoy the scenery...when the truck hits the top, I still don't pass, because I don't want to do 80+ mph going down the other side..geez! I had a 2011 Allegro Bus 36 foot DP 450 with DEF...got 1 mpg more than my present coach! Yes, it did go over mountains faster and I had to stop for fuel more often than now, 100 gal. vs 150 gal., Also, the 36 foot weighs less than my current coach...I think it has more to do with, how you drive! Too me it's the journey, not the Destination... FIVE. I see no mention in this post, about a ICS 400...360, yes! Carl
  3. Joe. There are no pro rated charges anywhere in the US or Canada that I know about now, there used to be, but now there are virtually millions of RV's and I think you know as well as I, that some folks are going to hook everything up, even for 8-10 hours! Abuse the system! So, I don't blame the CG for being full price!!! Your right about small less than 30 foot spaces and it don't get better the further North you go...then the fact that a lot of trailers are left at the camp site until next season! DW and I preferred to be in New England from mid August to mid September. We used most of the same CG every year, but when we got the 34 foot Barth, all that changed. The only one we could still use was a CG in Providence, Cape Cod and on a Island about 20 miles North of Portland, Main! Carl
  4. Joe. Welcome to the "what happened to my post" club! Carl
  5. I only have experience with one black vulture and a 1976 Ford 4 door company car...bird took out the front windshield and insurance totaled the car! Stench was unreal and they said it would never go away...Company gave me a new Ford p/u 1980. Carl
  6. Keon. That made more realistic sense! You also have less real estate for the amount of people, then throw in a million tourist's and I can see where the demand, far exceeds the supply!
  7. Bill. By the time I got finished looking at all of them, I blew the morning..LOL Some really good info, to a point.
  8. Brett. I did send a post in about it...have not heard back yet. Carl
  9. All of them do that. Don't stay because of Brand name, agent or office is local. I check around every 2 years. Especially after a major weather event, I live in Texas and don't want to pay for Matthews in Carolina! Carl
  10. John. On this Forum, under "Step's", there is an amazing amount of info for your problem! Carl
  11. JimR. Welcome to the Forum! What, Make, model and length of coach do you have? A lot of Custom Coaches have residential washer/dryer in them. But, they also have a lot bigger grey tank than mine and they have secondary pumps to move the larger quantity of water, than my stacked Splendid. There is also, the matter of 240V vs. 120V, how do you manage that? Carl
  12. Bill Adam, was that a Pelican? Sorry, no fun to replace windshield. Herman is right. They are great to deal with. Bet that bird got both of your attention!
  13. Good grief, I wrote the above, before you answered Brett...what is going on! And where has my answer been for the past 21/2 hours? Carl
  14. All 6 tires? You might have too much air in them, go find a place to have your coach weighed, each corner and front back, with what you normally have in coach on the road. I carry a lot less air in mine and I'm at 45 foot. Carl
  15. Take a Rubber head hammer or regular wrapped in a towel and hit motor, make sure your in the clear, when it comes out...clean all off step with either soap and water or Simple green and water (you need to do that monthly) and lube all moving parts after each cleaning! Most times it's the arm between motor and step that hangs up...little computer chip in there and right now, it probably thinks the step is out..you need to jar it loose, then it will reset itself to the door! Also, make sure that step is completely out and looked before any weight is put on it...including the dog (if you got one)! In the section of Step, there is an amazing amount written about this problem! Carl
  16. Joe. If you go to Sanibel/Captiva Island, look for a CG in Ft. Myers and use toad...narrow roads and lot's of traffic is the norm! You might want to visit Pine Isl. also.
  17. I wondered how long it would take to double up again! Some thing never change! Kay. Point taken and it makes sense! Carl
  18. Kay, if you read what I wrote, I also used Dawn! nighthawk. No need to sway back and forth...don't know where you drive, but my old 70's, 80's and 90's Class A, 24 foot to 32 foot had lousy suspension and was truly a rolling earthquake on any road ! I got the Ice, water, liquid detergent thing from a member of The Bus Nuts, back in 1976 at a FMCA Annual Rally, he had a Flexible conversion! Carl
  19. Ian, With a Jeep, it depends on year, model, automatic or manual...mostly year. My 13' don't even need the key! The 09' was as your Chevy and the 07' was ACC and the same as Chevy. Also, towed a Toyota Tundra TRD Auto in ACC, a 2500 Chevy Duramax 4X4 and 2 Chevy Colorado's V-8, 4X4...Chevy has been the easiest, besides the 13' Jeep I have now!
  20. Tom. You in a gas or DP coach? Make and Model would help. As Brett said, have the alignment, toe, caster checked before adding anything. Carl
  21. Hi Ian. Have you ever towed in the ACC mode? I have, and both times had to either disconnect the battery, or as Kay said...learned that lesson real quick at RV park, when it would not start...both where Jeeps! Carl
  22. Then go for it...there is no, you have to use this or that law, as long as it does the job and you can hook up chains or cable, I like to cross mine, between tow/towed, with a brake system, then that's it ! If you notice, I don't use a base plate of any kind for my Jeep! I slide the pin for Roadmaster, using my D ring holder...3/16" Steel Bumper! Carl
  23. Bill. Per the new and improved Federal Regulations, if any Tech in any shop, should detect (don't know how they would know) that the DEF is home made, they shall contact the Fed's immediately, refuse to service unit, or it's a up to $10,000 fine for shop! Off course if some one urinated in tank, call Hazmat..LOL. The Fed's want their Tax!
  24. Carl
  25. I had the basement unit on my 07' . My heat pumps worked, but as Herman said, it did take up to 10 minutes to really give out noticeable warm air...it has a way's to travel and then goes down thru the ceiling ducts. On mine, and very common on most basement AC/Heat in a coach, one of the ducts had been pinched, when they installed the end cap! Have you checked and or replaced your filter? It's a common house filter, I think it's 18" x 13" x 1". Mine was located in bedroom, passenger side, in a drawer under closet. Since you can't wash it, you need to get a new one and replace each month your using the AC/Heat system! Carl
