    Tire age

RATTLER. Welcome to the Forum! I have had 295's Michelin's, 8 & 6, 295's with 2, 315 Steer tires also Michelin...dry rot after 4 1/2 years. Now I have 315 (8) BFGoodrich! Under 90 days old is my benchmark, if it's more than that, get a discount...2 years old? No thanks! Thru FMCA Fleet, we get a discount on Michelin, BFG, Continental and Hancook, they are all good tires! I think Continental has 235, if not then 245's may be Ok!
  2. Hi Bruce. Welcome to the Forum!! If your furnace is LP , you should have registers on the floor, just like a house. If you have Aqua Hot, then the registers is thru the foot off cabinets and furniture. No matter the system you have, you probably have heat going into bays that has your plumbing.. Under sink is one example, probably does double duty, keeps interior warm & plumbing...the bathroom would be the same...Your correct on zone 1 & 2. You got 2 turned off, so number 1 is trying to keep the whole coach warm! Turn on number 2 and set it & 1 on same temp, use the gas setting (for both LP and Diesel if you have AH). That should prevent continual cycling! Heat pumps don't work below 40 degrees as a rule, AC with heat strip is good to 36....both are noisy! Carl C.
  3. mallard. Welcome to the Forum! 😎 Your point is taken...and it's expensive. Aesthetics is nice and the coach builder loves the free advertisement. Take a look at the most expensive coaches you can buy..Prevost and Newell. You will see a stiff mud flap between the drive axle and the tag axle, that's all that is needed! Yes, they tow a toad or trailer. I'm not saying your idea is wrong, just not necessary in Alaska today...when I was there the first time in 1978, different roads and story! Same in 1987. Now you got paved roads and Freeways! Carl C.
  4. I had a transfer pump..got it at NAPA one tube went into DEF tank, other into 2.5 gal box..squeeze the bulb & let it flow...mine was 13 gal and could never get more than 9 in it. carrted 2 boxes in bay...one gal must be a new thing!
  5. I have not been turned away for length yet. If you DEF fill is in front, get it in truck lane at pump, much easier as I found out in my Allegro Bus! Back in 2011, about the only way we could get DEF was in the 2 1/2 gallon box..it's a heavy, back breaker...now I see it at pump, everywhere! 100 or 150 fuel tank?
  6. That's why I run Off Road NITTO tires on my Jeep...made by TOYO. Unmatched durability! Price is the same as a coach tire!😁
  7. BandM. Have you looked at Kelly truck tires, I ran them for years, before the Michelin craze came along! Kelly should have been on Richards list, also Toyo. IMHO 90% of the tires we run are not American! But, they all have to meet the same Standards!
  8. Hope it fits at home base! Looks good. Now you get Particulate filter & DEF...Did you take it for a drive?
  9. Brett, Roland. I hold my wine glass high..Salut, Skaal, clink, gurgle! 😂 Happy, HH in 70+ and sunny!
  10. The chassis builder, puts on the rims and tires that the coach builder want's & has nothing to do with Engineering! Has everything to do with the coach builder "Bean Counter"! They determine what goes into an RV ! That was not an issue in 1964/74/84 and even 1994, but it's become a big issue since 2011. Every cent is accounted for! My coach came with rims that could carry 315'..so did FIVE's coach, mine came with 8 Michelin 295...cheaper than 315's, his came with 6, 295's and 2 steer tires of 315! I found out that I could run 315's on all 8, no rubbing on drive tires and no interference on steer tires...the point is that it's my dime, not the coach builders! Whatever you want in any coach, you can get on your $$$...They will build it, but you can forget about the 30/40% off MSRP.
  11. John. Welcome! Thank you for the blank check. Carl C. ASA Nam 1962/63.
  12. 82 sunny & AC is on! Jim S. Wait until you get out of Panama..should be about 92/muggy and feel like 100+, no tie required at dinner! When you get to my 2nd favorite city in Colombia, buy a white dress Canberra shirt.
  13. It was bound to happen, it does for all of us! 😂😂 I also have been looking at Entegra Cornerstone, we won't know until we get to Tucson! LOLOL
  14. Wayne, that's why I like XM Sirus...Country, Blues, Classic Rock, Jazz & Big Band..24/7.
  15. As you said, "You have a Roadmaster!" You could put 19" tires on that chassis & still have the best ride out there today!
  16. Bill, Joe. I call the Newmare a afterbirth! So Bill if you want it? Go for it & I'll get the 08 Mountain Air!
  17. Drizzle at camp house in Three Rivers, balmy 64...got to 72!! 😁 Sunday/Monday in the 80's and mid 70's for rest of week! 😎
  18. If you keep the same coach or get a new one, I check rates every 3 years...value of coach goes down. I have been with State Farm for 3 years now and the rate has been going down as value goes down! Progressive & National don't work like that...They kept my rate at purchase cost. Close to $400k, I'm second owner & did not pay anywhere near that amount.
  19. Sure wish we knew...make, model, year of OP's coach for better ref point.
  20. It's been 2 weeks, since we last had contact by OP...I guess he found what he was looking for! If you compare living space, between a 34' DP Class A and a 45' Super C...it's about the same...reason is you lose about 7' for the front engine & most of the big C's have 2 or 3 slides, some have none! Road manners on a tag axle C is hands down better! Engine noise is also a factor to consider. Since the OP's coach has full air ride on a Freightliner chassis, I wonder about his load weight, tire inflation, alignment, toe in & cambers...perhaps all he needs is Safe-T-Steer!
  21. Nothing beats the 6' x 6' shower and extra large Jacuzzi in both our S&B homes!
  22. I have the same from Spartan! Cummins also!
  23. Witch brings up the point about 10.5 to 14.0 inch wide tires that all OTR's in Europe and Russia use! They are not slipping and sliding in the snow or rain...they are designed for 2 tires per drive axle (one on each side). Buses run them also. I have in the past year, seen them here! I suspect we will be running 4-6 tires on coaches here, instead off 6-8, in the near future! IMO. I ran 295's on all my 8 tires, then 315 steer & 295's and now I have all 315's BF Goodrich by Michelin at 2/3 the cost. No problem in over 11,000 miles in 8 months! 3 of the months was in NE coast and all maritime provident's Canada...they got some bad roads there!!!
  24. pjbrau. Welcome to the Forum! Since this Post is 8 years old...scroll back if you have the same problem, on whatever you have! Make of coach, model, year would be helpful.
