  1. Jim, kudos for observing your brakes! Most have no idea of an air brake operation and how it works. They just bee bop around assuming whomever did the last oil change is checking all of this out, meanwhile their compressor is on 100% duty cycle and the air drying is popping off like a gun. I have spoken to a few at campgrounds, trying to advise them of a problem, I get the same answer every time, "well it stops!" Or "My mechanic just changed the oil last week" .
  2. RKWenning, Welcome to the FMCA forums! This is not new news, Forrest River and a few others are known for quality issues and poor customer service. Sorry to hear about your situation. What happened that landed your coach at a body shop?
  3. No, the Wix has fewer holes than the Cummins
  4. Some finished photos. Oil changed today also. I bought a Wix/Napa filter, part number 1748xd, that filter will be coming off before the first trip! It has 1/2 of the oil entry holes than the Cummins OEM. From my seat that translates into low oil flow! You get what you pay for comes to mind!
  5. This is common on Tiffin. My friends Bus looks like spaghetti with in line fuses and non weather tight connections all over the place. Im glad you found the culprit, now onto why it opened?
  6. Rayin, no worries! So sorry to hear about your wife. I sincerely hope 2019 brings better health for her. Winter felt like it was bearing down on us early this year in PA. I winterized ours three weeks ago when the nights were drifting into the 30’s. Today we hit 70 degrees! Wont last! This was also the first year since we started RVing that we didn’t Halloween camp. I always love seeing the kids dressed up and handing out candy. We don’t get much Halloween traffic at the house.
  7. I have found that you cannot stack discounts, so almost any membership will net you an average of 10%. Most RV’s folks are GS members for one or more perks. I just always pull that card out and give them that number. It became habit when I asked about FMCA discounts and there was silence on the other end, or they had to ask someone and put me on hold.....never fails the line would disconnect...had to call back.

2brew, take the coach to a Cummins dealer. Ask them to look into it. It’s usually one wire to the ECM, the other to ground, when you press the switch it grounds that circuit. Finding that wire in a schematic... you would need their expertise for that.
  9. If low turbo boost, it will cause the filter to soot up very fast. I have seen it happen in 100 miles of driving and shut down. Good chance it’s face plugged and will need to be removed and cleaned. I also recommend taking it to a Cummins dealer over a Freightliner shop that has a Cummins franchise.
  10. We run the Rotella ELC Nitrate free at work. https://rotella.shell.com/en_us/products/lubricants-heavy-duty-products/antifreeze-coolant/_jcr_content/par/toptasks.stream/1490828339244/71e107ec0823cda58499e5ced0788b07fb5cc9d70f03d0f3478f1b4eb96c8039/shell-rotella-elc-nf.PDF Seems like a decent product, me personally, I'd buy the next one up, Ultra ELC.
  11. Great chart Rich! any idea how old it is, no dates?
  12. Rich, I agree on the pump with that impeller, it was a concern but I don’t see them fail like they did 20 years ago when introduced. I installed a filter without the SCA precharge, with the OAT it’s just like Brett mentioned, no fuss! I will check PH and freeze protection annually for my own piece of mind. I also installed valves on the heater core and Aquahot water lines, just in case one has an issue I can shut it off and continue on our way. It took a while to purge all of the old coolant out, I rigged up a regulator on a blow gun and sent 8psi of air down the hoses to remove all old coolant. Pulled the system into a Vacuum and filled it that way. The water pump, took me 10 minutes to replace, got to love a side radiator!
  13. Cummins redesigned their water pump on these engines in and around our year, 2002. This pump has larger bearings and more coolant flow. Annually I remove the belts and spin the pulleys to see if I can feel a bearing problem, water pump was a bit loose. I figured this would also be a good time to do a cooling system conversion to OAT. Purchased the decal for the coolant tank for $.35 from a Freightliner dealer. Photos;
  14. One time for us, I unhitched the toad, pulled into a lumber company turned around, reconnected the toad and drove off.
  15. I think...know if that was our coach, id move them inside. I am actually shocked that someone thought that was a good idea, the sad part for many years under the Monaco regime those were inside, looks like the took a short cut to save a few $$
  16. Carl Navistar from April 2009 to May 2013, then REV
  17. tjc41, Welcome to the FMCA forum! I also have an HR coach with my kitchen on the slide, all of my plumbing is on the inside. Your coach is actually built by Navistar, not HR (they just bought the name). I agree, in cold weather i.e. winter camping this could present a huge problem.
  18. You can borrow my younger daughter, she brutal with negotiations also with her attitude. Herman, that’s hilarious!
  19. Tireman, you win the "best response" award! I enjoyed reading it so much, I read it twice
  20. I have seen everything from Cylinder cavitation, multiple oil coolers fail, Air Compressor leaking, all ended up with coolant into the crankcase and sadly all long before 100,000 miles. As Carl Mentioned, Cummins dealer would be my 1st choice, 2nd would be a Freightliner dealer with the Cummins licensing.
  21. One photo the wiper seals on the front were not flipped outwards, I can tell you from experience on a Monaco product, if not flipped outwards it will leak and leak.. I also noticed a tear in the top right wiper seal. If it were me I'd replace the wiper seals on that slide. They just press in, but you will need to measure the size of the wiper seal and the length to make it all the way around the slide. You can purchase them aftermarket on here; https://rv.steelerubber.com/
  22. Carl, the tire in question is a failed Wrangler LT from the OP's post. The ST tire you mentioned should suffice in a trailer application.
