1974 GMC 4108 - Custom Coach Land Cruiser
jleamont replied to richard5933's topic in RV Photo Gallery
Richard, nice looking coach! Obedb, and its a blown 8V at that . I also love the sound of them! I keep telling my wife if I find an old tractor with a twin stick and a 12V92 "buzzin Dozen" i'm buying it! -
Well...that was a fast 4 years! Today is the day we bought the coach 4 years ago . In celebration I think I will change my background photo

I was at a commercial vehicle oil seminar last year and the Rotella came into question as it only ever and just (barely) crossed the line to be a CJ-4 compliant oil. I use the Rotella T-5 15w40 synthetic blended oil, which has been good on my oil analysis reports with no issues, never used the T-4. Prior I ran Mobile Delvac 15w40 as I had it in bulk with the business. Kay, when I read your post that was my first thought...Bet it leaked like a lawn sprinkler those engines were notorious for oil leaks, it's just the way they were. When I was younger i worked summers for a construction company in the shop, they had a bunch of the 8V71's and 8V92's and one 12V92. Learned to drive on that old Autocar, with the 12v92, wow was that thing a beast! I still remember the lead mechanic telling me "if its not leaking it must be out of oil". We used Drydene straight 30 in all of them.

I always manually flip my seals with an altered tool, that got old so I installed automobile rubber trim down the slide so when it passes they flip on their own. Hard to see from the photo as they are right up on the edge where the black line is on the paint. Works great! Link; https://www.amazon.com/Cowles-T3402C-Black-European-Molding/dp/B001DKLOAQ

Not flipping out?

Now see I was going to say that earlier when I read it but I lost my nerve to do so.

Not likely, its all computerized, definitely sounds like one got wet or you lost a ground somewhere. Where is all of that type of stuff located besides the LF corner? Example; I have RF and LR electrical compartments. Crawl down near your foot area while driving, any carpet wet or along side of the drivers seat console floor wet?

Am I imagining this or is this post 7 years old?

Food for thought also, diesels have magnetic drain plugs, when you remove them the build up (hopefully not a lot) should be wiped off and looked at. Those other plugs are not magnetic, if they are you would need to remove it anyway.

We have a lot in common. I’m a Fleet manager for a North east trucking company. He and I could chat for hours and laugh..

I installed 3m automotive body side moulding to flip mine. I got tired of messing with them, especially in the rain. I put it right on the edge of the existing black edge. A little hard to see in the photos.

Only if the oil temperatures are up above 80 will I do that. Oil sampling is your friend when in doubt after a season of questionable habits.

The flip side...How long at idle before departing in the morning? This is the one you hear the most complaints about. I unhook, pack it all up, start the coach let it rise and build air, do a walk around the coach, hop in, buckle up and pull out, go easy on the throttle until it reaches operating temperature.

1998 could go either way. I would say they are probably day/night or the night only version (had those in the last coach) in that type of coach like this; if so I vacuum them.

YUP, that and they hang down significantly lower which any road debris can smack them and knock them off driving down the highway. When I worked at the dealer we would remove them and hand them back to the customer, it was our policy. We were not going to be responsible for not getting all the crud from the pan as the fitting often extends into the pan 1/4" which allowed the oil and crud to dam up on the edge of the threads, plus we were not going to be responsible for it opening up after we touched it last or leaking. Drain plugs are a consumable/wear item, when they fatigue it is the responsibility of the installer to replace it.

Rich, bought mine from these people (link below). I opted for a blacked out background vs the clear fluted lens on the headlights and marker lights. It made the lamps look smaller, but they are actually brighter, of course I opted for the LED halo's. https://www.carid.com/automotive-lighting.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwt2YoZaK2wIVElmGCh1hvAxPEAAYASADEgKx9_D_BwE

Carl, Remind me to look at them next month. Also marker lights upgrade to LED is simple on most RV's equipped with Bargman lighting. I installed these on all of our marker lights. Monaco used the Bargman 59 series back in the early 2000's on almost every coach. Our Coachman also used Bargman lighting, swapped that to all LED also. Plug in, snap on the lens, and your done! http://www.bargman.com/products/clearance-side-markers/clearance-led/led-upgrade-kits-59-series/1uG78!yXOq8evyWXXgawtBBspUkNKhagxdzS37tiBk0=

Exterior Maintenance - Cleaning and Waxing Fiberglass

Not sure...but it’s chalking until you wash it. -
I looked today but none show the water outlet on-line. I’ll have to do some more digging. I want the replacement to be the same or larger to cover up and marks from it being installed for so long. When I bought the shower head I found the new packaging annoying, you can’t seen what’s in the package nor does any of it have information as to what’s included be it online or in your hand. I hate to knife open all the packages at the home center . And my real favorite when they come to ask you if you need help, immediately shut you down and tell you none of their plumbing will fit an RV and walk away Herman, thanks for the suggestion.
