  1. Most inverter/chargers have an equalize setting which should be done every year or so. You need to completely clean and neutralize all metal and paint with rust preventative paint. When replacing the batteries, AGM batteries would be my choice because there is no corrosion at the terminals.
  2. You can install a mechanical disconnect switch like a Perko marine on each battery or bank. You will still have some drain just sitting.
  3. I think that I was sent the aluminum plates when I joined up in 1978. They are sand cast and if you can find a foundry you should be able to have them made. When mine look a little dingy looking I spray paint it with black satin finish Rustoleum and sand the raised edges for the satin aluminum look.
  4. Just get an RF Mogul open face automatic which mounts on the roof. All you need to do is push a button and you get all the satellite channels including Directv HD.
  5. I've had mine (real eggs, cast aluminum) on about 10 coaches since 1978.
  6. I had a campground admit there was a problem with a pedestal. It was a Thousand Trails and the space next to me when the camper tried to plug in and was shocked. The ranger was called and by the time he came the pedestal was smoking. He said it was a problem and not to use it. When it stop smoking he put a bag over it. It looked like it had been hit.
  7. I just switched my slimline 5 lnb (Directv) for a new SWM3 lnb on my Motosat open face dish. I also installed a new RF Mogul controller. Works great as long as I have a clear view of the southern sky.
  8. Chili without beans is like a hamburger without meat. Thats the way this Asian grew up!
  9. I It takes about an hour. Our city water is full of calcium. I have rigged up a bottled water rinse with an rv water pump and hose with a spray nozzle. I buy the water at the water store for $1 for 5 gallons. It takes about 4 gallons to rinse the coach and it dries relatively spot free. If I just use city water to rinse, my coach turns white. I have a 36 foot coach.
  10. I wash mine in the driveway when it needs it.
  11. What is the year and model of your coach? The melted wires are 12 volt?
  12. Its probably not wired correctly. The power for the emergency switch must come from the house batteries to energize the solenoid. If the switch come from the chassis batteries and they are too low on charge the solenoid will not energize.
  13. My last ones lasted for over 15 years so that is not a problem for me.
  14. How did you test the batteries. You need to use a load meter. Check all the wire connections on the battery cables. Trace electricity from the start batteries to the electric box. There has to be an open circuit somewhere if the batteries test good.
  15. I just replaced my nut covers because the old ones were starting to get rusty. $27 for 60 and free freight! Don't know why anyone would bend over to take them.
  16. The problem with the temp gauge is that the sender that is in the coolant is measuring the temp of the liquid. If you have a sudden loss of coolant there is quite a long delay until the gauge or light reacts. The heat has to transfer from the surrounding metal to the sender.
  17. Look for a clean out on the sewer line. I found mine along side of my driveway going to the street. Put a y connector and plumbed a fitting next to my driveway. I have full hookups in my driveway so all I have to do is dump my tanks on the way to parking it in the garage.
  18. I hope you used poly bushings.
  19. What you buy is determined by your pocket book, your skill level and desire, and life style of how you want to RV. If you want to do repairs and upgrades (like I do) you can get away with an older unit. If your limited in skills but have enough money you can pay to have it done. At the other end of the scale you can just go a buy what you want. I recently bought a 98 Discovery with just under 100k miles, in very good condition. Paid about 1/2 of low book. Left me some funds to do what I wanted to do.
  20. You should always use dry filtered air. I use my coach air or if I used my portable air compressor I have an inline air drier.

    XRV Tires?

I just installed Toyos at about half the cost. 245/75R22.5 is the same size as 235/80R22.5.
  22. I just installed new four new tires on the rear and replaced my Centramatics with balancing beads a manufacturer sent me to test. I drove from Az to Indy and the balance is very good, up to 75 mph. The one thing the beads do is balance everything, tire, drum, and hub.
  23. I know Chandler is not in Tiffin's back yard. The question was area rallies.
