  1. One cable for each valve. The valves are made to hook the cable to, I saw a valve at Bontraggers a few weeks ago.
  2. You can peel off old Dicor. The new Dicor self leveling will smooth itself out and look good.
  3. I have seen cables on the dump valves. Simular to remote control cables on outboard motors. Morse and Teleflex make them. I believe the type is a bulkhead mount at one end with a t handle.
  4. I am concerned with fuel milage. I want to get the best milage for what I am comfortable driving. I have added another 90 gal fuel tank, when I filled it my total gallonage was 186. At 10 mpg that gives me least a 1600 mile range leaving plenty of reserve. I also carry 96 gallons of fuel in my toad which is a 1/2 ton Silverado. I use gas buddy for the cheapest fuel and generally go to the station with the truck as a lot of times you would have hard time maneuvering a motorhome. This allows me to seek the least expensive fuel in the country.
  5. Probably an engine and trans swap and converting from steel springs to air ride, going from 19.5 wheels to 22.5 wheels and 15 in brake drums. Also I've done a independent front suspension from a solid front axle.
  6. Where would you sleep 6? My point is that we can travel comfortably with six and get 10 mpg. You travel with 2 and get only 18 mpg.
  7. Buy from motivated sellers and know what you are buying. Always pay with cash, its a great bargaining tool.
  8. If you use an auxiliary charger be sure it is a smart charger the can sense the level of charge in the battery bank and control the charge rate.
  9. In the last 42 years of motor homing I had about 10 coaches. I buy low and sell high. I have made money on some of them. On my last motorhome I sold for almost 3 times book, used it for 17 years and 145k miles and bought my current one for 1/2 book. Modifying and up grading is a hobby of mine as I retired from the rv service industry in 1999.
  10. Your van conversion needs to get over 30 mpg to equal my 36 ft which gets 10 mpg but is comfortable for 6 people.
  11. I agree 100%. I'm not full timing but spend about 7 months a year in the coach. I like spending some time at my home shop to upgrade and modify my coach and toads.
  12. On a GM 6.2L diesel the glow plugs went out on a regular basis. One of the causes was using starting fluid in cold weather. Sometimes they would go out for no apparent reason. I used to stock a number of them for my customers.
  13. Since the dump valve is about 3 inches, it should pass through ok. Use lots of water, have the tank full before dumping.
  14. I don't think letting trailers in is going to add to the membership. I think we will lose as many current members as we gain new members. We should be going after the current owners of qualifying coaches to get new members. I have recruited 24 new members since I joined in 1978. The chapter I help form was made up of about half working couples with small kids. We had rallys on a wide spot in the road or BLM land with no hook ups. Remember, motorhomes are self contained! Our get togethers were on weekends within 125 mile radius of Lk Havasu City so everyone could attend. Now it seems that everyone needs full hookups and catered dinners. Thats not the RV lifestyle that I enjoyed when I started 42 years ago.
  15. On my new to me coach one of the front air bags was delaminating but still was holding air. I changed it out with a used one, 22k miles on it, and was going to change out the other side but got too lazy.
  16. I have used synthetic oil in two different MD3060s, 98 vintage in the last 18 years. The spec for the fluid is TES 295 if I remember correctly.
  17. Is yours a double wall? Mine is and I don't have that much heat coming through.
  18. Looking forward to seeing the eclipse. Have reservations and the Thousand Trails campground in Fair Play NC.
  19. What make and model? Is only the compressor running? How about the fan?
  20. I used my iphone 5 for a hot spot sometimes. I have been using the battery case for about 5 years. I"ve had to replace it twice because I dropped it and broke it, one time off the roof of the motorhome. I buy them on eBay for $9+ and free shipping from China. Takes about 2-3 weeks to get it. I also have a Verizon Mi Fi which works better sometimes.
  21. Most inverter/chargers have an equalize setting which should be done every year or so. You need to completely clean and neutralize all metal and paint with rust preventative paint. When replacing the batteries, AGM batteries would be my choice because there is no corrosion at the terminals.
  22. You can install a mechanical disconnect switch like a Perko marine on each battery or bank. You will still have some drain just sitting.
