  1. Try this link. It might get you some info. https://www.a1autotransport.com/shipping-an-rv-by-train/
  2. US 82 from Artesia to Alamogordo is a good 2 lane highway. We spend every June at Mayhill, NM coming up from Texas through Carlsbad. Then we go on to Alamogordo and head north through Albuquerque or Santa Fe ( just depends on where we are headed in Colorado. We followed the route you describe in 2014 with one exception. Instead of continuing on US 70 to US 380, we stayed with US 54 when it splits from 70 at Tularosa. Then we turned west on 380 at Carrizozo. Much shorter route unless you are wanting to go through Ruidoso for some reason. on US82, just after going through Cloudcroft, be prepared to make extensive use of your exhaust brake. You will have several steep downhill grades (7%) with each running several miles. Also one short tunnel just out of Cloudcroft. We have probably driven 82 from Artesia to Alamogordo 6 times with no problems. The grades are not a problem if you control your speed and don't overuse your brakes. And the tunnel may look small but we make it just fine in our coach at 13'3".
  3. Enjoy your trip. It is an opportunity not to be missed.
  4. You might try Braunig Lake RV Resort at Elmendorf (just south of San Antonio). http://mobi.brauniglakervresort.com/#home or Buckhorn Lake Resort in Kerrville, Texas. http://www.buckhornlake.com/
  5. Stay with a wired system and call Tim at RVCams. http://www.rvcams.com/ (877)378-2267 Tim set me up with a color monitor and camera which worked with my wiring and I love it. He did the same for Bill Adams. You can order directly from their website but I would advise talking to Tim. You can tell him what you have now and he can give you several options. And if you have a problem setting it up, he can walk you through it.
  6. Check with Leisure Coachworks (formerly Alfateers) for a replacement. https://www.leisurecw.com/ Have you discovered the Alfa Forums yet? https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/alfaseeya/conversations/topics https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/SeeYaDP/conversations/topics
  7. I don't have a lot of information to offer but maybe it will help. We traveled part of your route in 2012 on the way to Alaska. We picked up Highway 2 at Fort McLeod on the way to Calgary where we took Highway 1 to Lake Louise. The highways were excellent all the way. We went around Calgary to the south then to the west and stayed at Spring Hill RV Park in Cochrane, AB. In Fort McLeod, you will find the Northwest Mounted Police Museum which is set in a replica fort. In Calgary, you can visit the Canada Olympic Park and Heritage Park Historical Village. We stayed in Banff National Park at Tunnel Mountain Campground. Beautiful scenery. We were in Tunnel Mountain Village 2 Campground and we had full hookups but that is limited to just a few sites. All of Tunnel Mountain Trailer Court has full hookups (don't let the name trailer court deter you - great scenery). Downtown Banff is a great visit as is Canmore just a short distance away. http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/ab/banff/activ/camping.aspx Then further up Highway 1 is Lake Louise which is a must see. From there we left Highway 1 and went up the Icefield Parkway to Jasper, AB so I can't say anything about the highway or sights on to Vancouver.

A lot depends on where you are coming from and how long you are going to stay. What are your interests? If you will be as far east as Jacksonville, St. Augustine is interesting if you like history. In Pensacola you will find the National Naval Aviation Museum. Just out of the panhandle is Mobile, Alabama - historic homes and USS Alabama.
  9. True. I am used to Google Maps and Google Earth and the accuracy. That is why I am not impressed with Windows 10 MAPS.
  10. I just looked at Windows 10 MAPS on my laptop. Not really impressed - I am connected to the internet and it shows my location incorrectly and says "My Location (within 20.9 miles)". Not close enough for my use.
  11. Bill, Glad to hear you had a great experience with Tim and RV CAMS. They worked with us in 2012 replacing the Weldex backup system in our coach. They set us up with a color system that could use our old wiring harness. Tim suggested removing the plug in connectors on each end of the harness and soldering all connections but I really did not want to put that much effort into it. I finally ended up doing the solder job last year and have had no problems since. I found that Tim responds quickly to emails and phone calls.
  12. Our son (21 years Navy) says that he believes you have to be active duty, retiree or 100% service connected disability. Here you will find some discussions: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/17096765/print/true.cfm http://www.militarycampgrounds.us/news-and-articles-mainmenu-2/military-campground-and-rv-parks-articles/authorized-use
  13. Welcome to the FMCA Forums. We try to plan our winter site based on travel plans both before and after winter. Where are you located now and where do you want to go after winter? What do you want to do during the winter? We were in New Mexico for 4 months during 2014 visiting with friends and trout fishing. Sandra has a sister we wanted to visit in the Phoenix area and the Alfa Owners Club had scheduled a rally in Arizona during April 2015. So we spent the winter in Apache Junction, AZ. This was a perfect base to visit Jerome, Bisbee, Tucson, Sedona, Prescott, Flagstaff, Yuma, Grand Canyon and view the beautiful Superstition Mountains every morning. Last year we traveled east of the Mississippi through the Midwest, Great Lakes, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and down the east coast to Florida where we arrived November 1st in the St. Augustine area to spend the winter. Enjoyed the history in St. Augustine and the Tampa RV Supershow and fishing along the coast and in tidal creeks. This winter we are in Hondo, Texas just west of San Antonio. Very few really cold days. This will probably be our winter home in the future as we plan to spend our winters in Texas and summers in Colorado. You will also find some good parks around Rockport, Texas. We looked at the Rio Grand Valley but it was a little too far from our son and his family just north of Austin, Texas.
  14. Sounds like a bad water inlet check valve. Mine is built into my inlet hose connection and replacement would be a pain so I went to Lowe's and got a quarter turn cutoff in the garden department.
  15. Welcome to the forum! Floorplan looks like a Four Winds Hurricane we had for a couple of years.
  16. When you get to Texas, plan a few days at Davis Mountains State Park and visit the lodge there. Also a very short drive to McDonald Observatory - their night time Star Party is very educational
  17. Rich, Use ISC Engine in quotes: "ISC Engine" I found 22 entries when I used that.
  18. Welcome to the forum. We tow a 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade. We like it for the four wheel drive and it is easy to set up for four down towing. We would like to have a little more room especially when we have passengers so the Cherokee that Carl mentioned might be a good choice.

    Road Light

I don't have any experience with Tiffin but this discussion on iRV2 might help. http://www.irv2.com/forums/f106/outside-light-driver-side-211451.html Appears from the discussion that it controls a light on the drivers side.
  20. Here is a quote from Google when you search for scare light. "A scare light is a light designed to brightly illuminate the sides of a trailer as a way to scare of a possible intruder. Sometimes they are motion detector style lights that will turn off and on as they detect motion. " http://www.coilnwrap.com/products/RV-Smart-Light-Security-Replaces-Scare-Light.html
  21. Carl, About 2 years ago I converted our 3 round outside "Scare" lights and porch light to LED. I used the following to do the conversion: http://www.ebay.com/itm/201161822452?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT The porch light was simple - just remove the old bulb, plug the adapter into the socket and attach the panel to the back of the light housing. The "scare" lights were more difficult. I used four panels in each light and soldered the wiring together. To me, the "scare" lights are not so bright that they will blind people but just right for lighting up the area.
  22. Welcome to the forum. I agree with Herman and Carl. If you both like it, go for it but negotiate on the price. You might look at the NADA Guide for the coach but keep in mind that what it says it is not set in stone. http://www.nadaguides.com/RVs/Motorhomes
