Have To Constantly Plunge My Toilet
hermanmullins replied to Jaimepoulin1's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
While everyone is giving their suggestions on the way they dump here is ours. When we leave for home I disconnect the water solenoid from the ice maker, ( the power wire). This way the ice tray will dump and no water will inter the maker. When we are several miles from home, the DW will dump all the ice down the toilet. The ice will slosh around and loosen stuff. We then dump when we get home and then put the coach in Barn. Herman on the dump. -
You never get too old to learn. After having my coach serviced the shop owner told me that my coach batteries were down. He said that he used the boost and it started. I told him I didn't think is was worked. That was when I learned that you need to hold the boost in for 10 to 15 seconds before trying to start. Guess what, when I held down the switch as he had directed the engine started. DUH, old man. Herman

Poor Low Beam Headlights-- Need A Remedy
hermanmullins replied to racesport's topic in Type A motorhomes
One of the things that is hard to find any more in shops are head light machines. That was one of the main things for inspections in the past. Some where I have seen an article on adjustments where you can do it on your garage door and with measuring tapes. Anyone out there remembers it? Herman -
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Thanks Rich and the same to you and Lois. See you in Perry. Herman -
tagcat, Welcome to the Forum. Since you have never had a motor home my advise to you is to rent one. If you like it then you can know what you would like in your own. However if life in a motor home does not suit you then all you are out is the rental. Good luck, Herman

Have To Constantly Plunge My Toilet
hermanmullins replied to Jaimepoulin1's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
Jim, I agree with you. However I do use chemicals in my holding tank when I store it for a period of time. I do use a lot of water. Since we store the coach in a building and there is no air flow over the vents, I use the chemical just to keep down any odors. Even our body needs lots of water. Herman -
Spartan Discovery 2010 Ignition Switch Start Issue
hermanmullins replied to rhester336's topic in Electrical
Rob, I have had this same issue several times. Check your solenoids. You have a 12 volt constant duty solenoid that pass power when the ignition is turned on. You can check it with a test light. Turn on your key, ground the test light and check both large lugs on the solenoid. If you have power to both they are good. If not they are faulty. They can, if going bad, work intermittently. If they are good then see if you can remove the solenoid from the starter. The contacts may be burnt. If so they can be cleaned and returned to service. Herman -

Harvey, I am assuming your are speaking of the AC cable. If so here are my thoughts. The cable is attached to the frame and into the Gen Set. Therefore to lengthen the cable you might need to put a water proof box in the location where the cable is attached. Put a 90 degree water proof connector on the gen set and add enough new water tight conduit to give you the correct length as to be able to move the gen without putting it in a bind. You will also need a longer cable (12-2/ground or matching what is there now) from the gen to the box. When you put it in a loop be sure that it doesn't rub or snag on something else. I hope this helps. I can see it in my mind and hope I have presented it properly. Herman

Harvey, Can you post a picture of where the cable come out of the gen set. I have several ideas but need to see it first. Herman

Wheel Chocks - Needed And If Yes, Most Preferred
hermanmullins replied to garyejones's topic in Type A motorhomes
One thought, if you have a fear of loosing your brakes due to low air, don't worry. When your air goes down to 60 psi (I believe) your park brake will set and not release until the pressure comes back up. Herman -
To me it all depends on the quality of your current coach and what you can afford. Ours is 11 years and counting. At my age I hope it keeps up with us, Herman

1995 Cummins 8.3 Mechanical 300 HP-- Very Low Power
hermanmullins replied to dougja1960's topic in Engines
If the coach has been setting for three years, I would change every filter on the coach, the oil, all belts, put in fuel additives, have the coolant checked and check out the transmission. It will be costly but well worth it all. Herman PS, check the dates on the tires also. -

Tow Vehicle Hit While Traveling!
hermanmullins replied to jimaloney's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
Jim, Welcome to the Forum. Did this happen on cars trying to enter a freeway? I can see this happening there and sorry there is nothing you can do with stupidity. Herman -
It is a bit further north but how about Possum Kingdom Lake.

Don, You should have more then one screw holding your cabinet up. Using the same size and length screw move over a inch and install the new screw. Be sure and push the cabinet up before trying to tighten the screw. You could also add another screw from the front cabinet to the cabinet to the right after you secure it to the ceiling. Herman

One thing to remember is to always have your toads wheels straight when you begin moving. Herman

Flat Towing 2014 GMC Sierra
hermanmullins replied to turbine52's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
turbine52, Welcome to the Forum. Are you sure you have a steering wheel lock? My 2008 Silverado does not. I have a Drive Shaft Disconnect and when I tow I do my hook up to the tow bar back the truck up, put the truck in neutral, pull the disconnect to disengage it and take a look at the speedo to see if it starts to indicate speed, if so I kill the engine put the truck in park, close the door and lock the truck. I have an M & G braking unit which requires no electrical power at all. Tows fine and never a dead battery. If you do indeed have a steering wheel lock you can take it to a shop and have them remove the locking pin. Herman -
Bill, It may just be me, however if I found a coach 10 years old that was only driven 1,700 miles a year it would send up a few questions. Has it set un used for a very long time? Was it used for full time living? I'm not saying it would be a bad purchase, just that it may need all new hoses and complete inspection of all appliances. It may need all new fabrics inside. Hope everything comes out great and you get a real good deal. Herman

Hello Frank, The Cricket you speak of is a nice but it is a very small cart. If you might be large people it may be difficult for two people to ride in it. By the way Frank, when you type in all capitols it indicates that you are shouting. Just a tip. Good Luck, Herman
