  1. Ch1ckad19, Welcome to the FMCA Forum. Pretty familiar with the U240-- sold our 1993 U240 with 170,000 miles on it. With vibrations in the steering column, my first thought is out of round tire. So have any good truck tire store check for RUN-OUT. Also, check for play in the TORSILASTIC SHACKLES-- the metal part should be centered in the rubber. If wallowed out, can allow for play/vibration. For pulling, first thing I would do is swap the front tires-- left for right. While wheels up, verify no brake pad drag. As far as pull, raise the dash-- front end alignment specs are on the right side. Caster on right side needs to be higher than left to compensate for crown in the road. Have you checked RIDE HEIGHT? That can also affect tracking. From the horizontal area behind each wheel position to the ground should be 32-33". Removing one of the 1/4" thick shims from in front of and behind a wheel position RAISES that wheel position 1/4". So count number of shims at each wheel position to verify that you can achieve correct ride height. Will be out of internet range for several days, but will check back when back in range.
  2. On the FMCA main site, under Benefits, you will find info on the FMCA Campground on Roundbottom: https://www.fmca.com/rv-discount-clubs-benefits
  3. Yup, propane is the FUEL. 12 VDC runs the fan and powers the PC board that controls all functions.
  4. Check for your coach, but most coaches heat the basement when the propane furnace is running. A VERY GOOD IDEA TO PUT YOUR COACH INFO IN YOUR SIGNATURE-- MORE LIKELY TO GET INFO FOR YOUR COACH, NOT JUST "MOST COACHES".

While on shore power, leave any battery bank that has a smart charger charging it ON. Note: many coaches do not have smart chargers/any chargers on the chassis battery.
  6. Yes, the propane furnace runs on 12 VDC and will be supplied by your alternator while driving. No problem.
  7. Sounds like you are extremely handy. Yes full wall replacement is certainly possible, but well past 99% of RV owners. Good luck with your project-- look forward to pictures/write-ups of the project!
  8. franks5girls, Welcome to the FMCA Forum. In the upper right of this page is a "search" box. Type in "San Francisco" and you will see a couple of discussions on recommendations in the area.
  9. Sadly, delamination of the sidewalls was a MAJOR problem for Alpha-- a significant contributor to their demise. Just do a search for: Alpha, see ya delamination Reality is it is not economically feasible to repair it. Live with it and enjoy your new RV experiences.
  10. Traveling the back roads through upstate NY before the W Springfield MA, there was an underpasses that I was concerned about. Actually, google earthed to find a business near the underpass. Called and asked if 18 wheelers drove that route. Instant answer, even from the receptionist who had no idea about height restrictions. Answer was, "yes, there is a Walmart just down the road and the trucks go through here all the time. Happier camper time.
  11. Very good basic rule of thumb. If you see 18 wheelers on your route, you are good to go.
  12. Mark, What is your coach height? Taller than a standard 18 wheeler??
  13. Really depends on time of year/WEATHER. Have done all that route (70/380) in our DP. No problems, but yes, some mountain driving. This time of year, verify road conditions-- would not want to do it on ice! 10 south, 62 east, 285 north MAY (never took that route) should be a lot better if winter storm conditions exist and you are traveling on a schedule. CHECK!
  14. Let's get this thread back on track. Website Changes/FMCA Membership directory. Thanks. Moderator
  15. Welcome to the FMCA Forum. Please tell us what port you will be/are considering cruising out of. Then we can help with suggestions. Also, will you need shore power?
  16. Have you verified with a Ford dealer what other vehicles this PN was used in? Very possible it was used in Ford HD PU's or medium duty trucks. LOTS more of them in wrecking yards than RV's.
  17. Ya, Andy-- good post. And, intermittent brake signal will render ANY cruise control inoperative! Brake signal is designed to disengage all cruise controls-- gas, diesel, car, truck RV.
  18. klsprague, Welcome to the FMCA Forum. Are you certain that the OE cable can not be used (with our without adapters)? I would contact these guys with that question-- that is what they do for a living: http://www.rvcams.com/abus.html
  19. Perfect. Unless 120 VAC load is too high, you are both saving fuel by not operating the generator, but also a LOT of wear and tear on the generator. As with any engine, running it at very low loads leads to carbon buildup. Agree, anything less than roof A/C's are you should be fine running on inverter.
  20. A good question. And, the answer is IT DEPENDS. It depends on how large an electrical load you are running. In most cases, your engine-driven alternator can cover the electrical demands of both your 12 VDC and some 120 VAC items. The other issue is whether you have a MSW or Pure Sine Wave inverter and how sensitive the appliances you wish to run are to MSW if that is what you have.

24theRDjoy, Yes, welcome to the FMCA Forum. Sounds like a loss of vacuum. When you tell us what you are driving (basic question gas or diesel) we will be able to guide you to tracing down lack of vacuum (separate 12 VDC vacuum pump on diesel vs engine produced vacuum on gasoline. Default position with no vacuum is defrost vents.
  22. Correct. Just confirmed with Cincinnati: Non-FMCA members can view all posts/the whole FMCA Forum. Only FMCA members can post.
