  1. We have a similar situation leaving from here in Colorado after the first of the year. We watch for a gap in the weather, check the roads and run like the dickens, South. If you go straight South, I 5 most of it should be ok. A few places could offer some excitement like over the Siskiyou Mountains between southern Oregon and Northern California. Most along that route the wait times are short and the snow melts quickly. Grew up in Medford, Oregon. As Byron suggested do not hurry and let common sense prevail.
  2. Herman, Two tricks to a windshield looking like that and lighting is not one of them. First step and the work, is to polish the glass clean with 000 or 0000 steel wool. No it will not scratch the glass Second step is RAIN-X! as suggested and again polishing it with cotton towel, wait a day and re-do a second coat of RAIN-X. Polish, you can forget using the windshield wipers. and the bugs com right off.
  3. Richard, Don't worry about the tanks it will not be a problem, however be sure when you park to open the blade valve and re-drain anything there that may have sloshed down the pipe. Blow out the other plumbing with better tha or at least 50 psi of air. Do not allow that air into the tanks, they will not like that much at all. Right on having the ball valves closed ask me how I know. A little of the pink stuff down the drains. I am in Colorado and it has worked for me. How did the recharge go?
  4. Looks like I will stay away from this deal. There is plenty of free camping available in the Arizona desert. With a little effort it is a real hoot.
  5. Sounds like something is amiss here. Interpretation of the symptoms is critical. I do not know much about this coach but mechanics are mechanics. If the airbags are deflating one would expect to notice a body/chassis attitude change while driving. To the Jeep as Kay suggested, could the DEATH Wobble be significant enough to shake the coach to create the illusion of the problem being coach related? I seriously doubt it is the tow bar but it needs inspecting if the Jeep is the cause.
  6. The ACACIA will spice this one up very nicely for sure. The cork is a real duh makes no statement at all and the caulk...a hack's icing. Not everybody has great taste. As Carl said waiting for more pictures.
  7. Looks like he has been using an EXACTO knife...attention to the details is a learned skill and difficult to master. It does not happen overnight. Very pretty Ernie.
  8. I am from Oregon, grew up there. For the most part even today I rarely make reservations as there are many places to just pull off and stop. It is easier yet with your shorty so to speak rig. The small parks along the way in Washington and Oregon are far more friendly to rigs your size than my 43 feet and there are many. Another place maybe not on you stay list are county fair grounds. Many have very nice facilities for very reasonable rates and rarely full. What is more traveling in September is PERFECT for just going with no reservations at all. A couple of suggestions if you like oysters or Dungeness Crab. The annual Oysterfest in Sheldon, Washington and the Dungeness Crab Festival in Port Angles, Washington are held a week apart, just enough time to explore the Olympic Peninsula National Park and Hurricane Ridge. There is a terrific little park near Port Angles named Crescent Beach RV Park, no permanents just lots of grass and the beach water is across the street and the land across the way is CANADA. For you the trip will be amazing. I never run the freeways except as a last resort. The real sights are off of them...you will be fine. Reservations maybe necessary south of San Francisco but just south is a grove of redwoods/sequoia that is beautiful and reservation not necessary. PM me if you would like more info b
  9. Ernie, What is the wood grain? it is beautiful, almost looks like teak, something exotic. One would want to remove the shoes before entering the palace. I like the tile in the side entry but this makes me think twice. Might not be the most friendly right now as we are desert dry campers.
  10. It is very pretty, lots of skill, great job.
  11. CARL, East come easy go😎 I worked to hard for what i have to spend so look for the way toooo streeeeeach it. Those FJ and Pilot places, the fuel prices are /seem inflated taking advantage of the big rigs. I asked a delivery guy one day in Grand Junction what the difference was in the fuel....he replied "PROFIT!!!!!!" I said that is it...He replied "THAT IS IT" so i only use them if in a real hurry or real tired.
  12. There is a truck repair shop in Pueblo, I believe T&T repair, that took care of me when the radiator, self inflicted catastrophe occurred. I'm not telling you all what happened and how. There is also a little radiator shop there in town that was the go to place for the mining and heavy equipment giant Wagner CAT. He did all the big repairs on those huge machines. Old guy and efficient as can be. He rebuilt my huge side radiator, copper core, in less than 6 hours after the new reinforced core arrived. Total labor charged to me was $960 from T&T and $3000 from the radiator shop. Problem was the fan was destroyed in the fray as well. Safari, SMC Corporation used an odd fan and we had to come up with it. Here is what I learned. Fans can be ordered from Kit Master thru a Freightliner shop or through Fleet Pride a nation wide truck shop parts house. They had a one day turn around of fabing up the fan and air freighted it in. Fan cost was under $200 bucks.
  13. Nope we paay cash! I have gotten pretty good on the estimation of miles per gallon and the terrain. Calculate based upon guessed miles per gallon into the miles driven times the cost per gallon, add ten bucks and send Janet in. Pump comes on, fuel up and she goes back for the change. I rarely use the big boys, Flying J and the like, almost always save 10 to 15 cents by using the local stations off the highway., I have been in some crazy places and with a trailer to boot. This year no trailer heading south in January, going to flat tow the new to us Jeep wrangler. Living the dream!
  14. 000 or 0000 will polish the glass like a mirror. It is not always quick but with the Bar Keepers should make it like new and shiney. After that apply some Rainex and they will glisten with a real mirror finish. The Rainex will allow easier cleaning next time and what hits it will sail to the ground for weeks..
  15. I did not know about the recall either and now going to check out the Samsung 18 deal and see if it will fit
  16. Some folks like the dolly thing. I tried it for a season and off it went to another wanting to try it out. I could not be happier flat towing. Now I also use a trailer from time to time to bring other toys along. But flat towing is by far the easiest, less than 5 minutes hooking up.
  17. 960 watts (6 160 watt Carmanas) top side and a 2 Bogart charge controllers, 6 6 volt Crown batteries and do not use the generator unless over 90 degrees, so seldom used. The system will charge at 60 amps Bogart meter inside to keep track of the action
  18. When in the southwest quadrant of Arizona take a trip up to Lake Havasu. Weigh-to-Go resides there and was very reasonable at the 25th Safari Anniversary Party. I plan to call him this winter and have my Panther weighed.
  19. Desertrat The system you have JII RVA is there a small switch panel in the coach with 4 switches, rocker type? One is power with 3 lights green, red, yellow all in a line on one end? There should then be three rocker switches Right, front, Left. If so it is the manual setup. Now before you level, put out your main slide. In different parking circumstances I use different techniques. If front is low after parking I dump the rear bags accordingly to lower back end. If front is high I dump all the air both ends and then bring the back end up. If coach sits pretty level then I just set jacks as needed. If the coach is pretty level to begin with it is not necessary to open slide first.
  20. The reason Bill suggested that you not use caps is in the etiquette of communication it is akin to shouting.
  21. Sorry to butt in again Carl, but REV who owns Monaco anad Safari has no interest in we Safari owners nor do they like sharing info. So I suggest you join safarifriends@yahoogroups.com 1,500 some SAFARI owners and some very astute people that maybe able to help. I would also suggest you call Dave Atherton here on the forum as a one on one which he likes better than the forum notations and have a talk about the question. He is master CAT troubleshooter, retired but giving back in a big way. 605 999 0720 Arizona

  23. I too owned a body and paint shop from 72 till 2000 and then worked it by myself on and off and am still a sucker for the right job and money. The problem is still the same, finding either willing to learn help or knowledgeable available help. The pay scale, that is another huge issue as Elk indicated...no matter the scale they are looking for the next move to what is perceived to be better. I had all the trick equipment, welders, plasma cutters, spot/resistance welder, laser measuring equipment. I had epoxy painted floors like your garage with trim and art all over the walls and a big space 7,500 square feet. I had a national and an international reputation for quality Porsche restoration work. I paid for weekends at the vintage races with banners that promoted our shop. Still the workforce changed and they were not the top line people in the local industry to boot. I was always training someone at a technical level. All 8 of the guys including the newest was I paid nice year end dividends/bonuses, frequently 4 figures, still they looked. The best crew lasted 5 years. Look at the workload Camping world has. They certainly do not look for the cheapest labor in town yet the have countless hacks working there. Numerous studies have been done by the major news networks over the years accessing the honesty of the workers in the trades. The results have always been abysmal and I can attest to it with many I tried to hire and shortly there after let go. Pride in workmanship in my opinion is pretty low. I frequently found the attitude of "if they can afford to restore this Porsche I can take as many hours as I like to get the job done" or "they must have money". Does this sound familiar, just substitute "Motorhome". The workload can be there but you still must find competent, skilled, honest people willing to perform a timely and efficient repair. The idea of a start up business in a busy metro area is at best going to be an ongoing and uphill challenge until there is time under the belt and this does not address the hard costs of a well equipped shop to attract such a workforce.

The other problem they have not been back since the June 11
  25. Rv Parks in the West are often located near the tracks as that is the least expensive land or so it seems.
