  1. The original goose eggs were cast aluminum which haven't been available for many years. My aluminum plates just need repainting every few years. I checked into having some cast and the price was about $95 each.
  2. A lot of state and federal campgrounds have restrictions as short as 30 feet. I have a 32 foot DP and have gotten in by fibbing a little.
  3. If you are accustom to resort type campgrounds the rally would seem primitive. However there are some things that those type of campgrounds don't have such as evening entertainment, coach displays, vendors galore, enjoying fellow rvers, etc.
  4. Its probably for Directv. You may be able to change the LNB to get it to work with Dish.
  5. What surge protector do you have? With low voltage they shut off the current until power is back to normal. It takes time for this process, sometimes minutes before it restores current flow.
  6. Check with RV Glass, they replaced both sides of my windshield on a 93 Santara.
  7. Sometimes rewiring is easier than trouble shooting.
  8. I've been in the RV repair business for over 30 years and all of the manufacturers have had problems, which is good for us. I have heard more good reports from Tiffin than from Winnebago.
  9. I guess its like which is better, Ford or Chevy. I have sold both PI and SG and they both do the job if they are working OK. They both have failures and both are covered with warranty. I use SG without issues and I think we see a little better service from SG.
  10. If it is Thinlite the ballast is a circuit board hidden in the center.
  11. Nothing is added to the tires. Centramatics go on before the front wheel and between the rear duals.
  12. The accumulator for rvs does not come with air pre charge. The air in the chamber is compressed with the water. In a home/farm unit, the tank has a rubber bladder which on the air side a predetermined amount of air pressure. This is used with a well pump.
  13. I've used Centramatics for 10 years, 110,000 miles, with success.
  14. Isolators do lower voltage so they are not the best way to hook both banks together. Using a solenoid would not lower the charge voltage.
  15. What they don't understand is the amount of money we spend if we spend a night in Walmart parking lot. Also the amount of money spent on fuel, restaurants, etc. I understand that Illinois state is against overnight parking so we don't stop if we have to go through the state and will not spend a dime for anything. Its a two way street and if they don't allow us to park then we won't spend any money there.
  16. The ones I'm familiar with that have been used in rvs we've worked on in the last 40 years seem to be smaller in diameter and shorter that home units with bigger ballasts. Most of them are made by Thin Lite.
  17. The only problem with dual panes is the windshield which is massive is only single pane.
  18. We always use the Thousand Trails campgrounds on the Or and Wa coasts. There are four in Or and two in Wa. Going to spend this summer at all of them.
  19. We stayed on 101 where 1 started because I thought it wouldn't be as safe and I have a 32 foot diesel pusher with a Silverado toad.
  20. You need to have a device such as a Surge Guard to determine if the power is ok. It checks several things before connecting your coach.
  21. If you use a Road Relay or similar you can tell you mpg instantly as you are driving. You can switch settings and not only tell the mpg but also the percentage of throttle setting when using cruise.
  22. Since you are retired why the rush? To do a trip like you plan I would take at least 12 weeks, that's the beauty of the rv lifestyle.
  23. You need to get the specs from the different mfgr and see what fits.
  24. Years ago when we went skiing and were parked in a snow bank, I got some 1/2 inch styrofoam sheets and cut out pieces that would just fit into the window frames and the windshield (the largest glass area). It reduced my propane usage by 1/2 and the furnace would cycle and still maintain close to 70 with the outside about 0-10. I cut the stryofoam with an electric kitchen knife.
