  1. Having grown up in tornado country and lived in hurricane country, I would never try to take shelter under an overpass.

    Pads For Jacks

Try Interstate Plastics. I got HDPE - High Density Polyethylene - that they cut to the size you want ( I got 12"x12"). You can get it up to 2 inches thick. I am using 3/4" that seems to be working well - $15 each but 1.5" is only $20 each. Go to Lowes or a Home Depot and get screen door handles to attach to the edge and you can use an awning hook to pull them out from under the coach.
  3. We will be in Albuquerque this year for four days prior to Balloon Fiesta. The day after we leave our $32/night space goes to $62. And I understand they still get taken quickly. As Bill said - Sandia Casino.
  4. I put Toyo on my coach in 2012 just before a round trip from Texas to Alaska. At the time, Michelin would have been about $1000 more so I went with Toyo. I have no regrets.
  5. Ken and Nancy, Welcome to the forum. We had a 33 foot Class A gas model until we decided we wanted to full time. We needed more space inside and outside. You will need to do more research concerning fuel stops and parks because of the larger Class A when you are planning a trip. Some state & national parks cannot accommodate larger coaches but we have found many can handle up to 40 feet. Many travels centers now have RV and truck lanes for refueling. It still comes down to individual preferences when making such a decision. It took us about 2 years to decide on the specific coach we wanted. Just take your time looking and compare each coach to lists of "Must Have" and "Nice To Have".
  6. Hi Jim and Carol, Welcome to the FMCA forum.
  7. X2 on Escapees. We have used it since 2011 and never had a problem. Even received our mail on a trip to Alaska in 2012 with no problems.
  8. I have a 50 amp SurgeGard fixed unit but I have read some good things about the Progressive. That is probably I will go if I ever have to replace mine. I like the permanently mounted version because of possible theft.
  9. Check this link on the Newmar website and select the 2003 Dutch Star brochure: http://www.newmarcorp.com/resources/brochures/brochure-archive According to it, your fuel capacity is 150 gallons. Also has a lot of other specs there.
  10. The 36J was a Discovery model in 2014 but no longer listed in the 2015 models.
  11. I have emailed Mr. Lemonis twice in the past and always received a quick and courteous response.
  12. Ron and Bonnie, I don't think any of us said welcome to the FMCA forum - guess we were all busy answering your question - but welcome. Hope you have a good trip. We started full timing in November 2011 and never fail to learn something new when I log onto the forum. Enjoy Colorado - we plan to be in Colorado sometime in August for a little trout fishing.
  13. Those storms will be gone by the time you are ready to travel but may be replaced by others. Just look at the forecasts for the area you plan to travel and stay informed. Oklahoma is no more dangerous for storms than most other states.
  14. I don't know if it is possible or not but you might try a gun club or range in your area.
  15. I am assuming you are talking about downshifting on a hill? Or trying to manually downshift when cruise is engaged?
  16. Try Camelot Village RV Park in Lubbock. It is just off of West Loop 289 on 34th Street. They do not have Wifi or cable hookup but that is probably not important for just overnight. They have 20/30/50 amp, sewer and water and the times we have stayed there the rate was about $23. They have several pull through spaces reserved for overnighters. Also just across the street is Costco. Have a safe trip!!
  17. Welcome to the forum. In 2012 we spent a week in the Raton area and then went on to Yellowstone. I can't tell you anything about the scenic drives across Colorado because we went straight north on I 25 to Cheyenne, WY where we spent a couple of days and then on west to Lander for a couple of days. Then on from there to the south entrance to Yellowstone. There should be someone here with information on Colorado. Have a good trip.
  18. The only time we spent the night at a Flying J was in Gillette, WY. We did run our generator and I don't believe it made any difference with all the trucks with the engines running to keep the truckers cool while they rested. If I had wanted peace and quiet, I would not have chosen to stop at a truck stop. And we rested just fine.
  19. I got rid of the Goodyear 670s in 2012 and put on a full set of Toyo M154 and have no regrets. A trip to Alaska and back (a little over 10,000 miles) and they still look great and ride great.
  20. Welcome to the FMCA forum. Contact Alfateers in Fontana, CA. At one time they had manuals for each year on line that you could download and print. They also may have printed manuals for sale. (909) 428-6775 http://www.alfateersrvservice.com/
  21. Herman, Looks like you are not the only tool nut. I have the items you list plus those listed by mrboyer. Included in my case is heat shrink tubing, water hose washers, water hose repair fittings. I also carry a 30amp extension, extra water hose and sewer hose extension.
  22. Jim, The only thing I know of new is the Thor Axis. It is 94" wide, 11'3" tall and 25'6" long. It is built on a Ford E350 chassis. They describe it as an a different breed of class A - an RUV. One gentleman on another forum described it as a Class A built on a Class C chassis. I don't know anything about it other than what I read on the Thor website: axis-motorhome.com Good luck with your search.
  23. We use Home Defense spray around the tires and any other ground contact - power cable, water hose, tv cable, etc. Ants use these as "superhighways".
  24. Gordon welcome to the FMCA forum. If your tires look like the picture posted by Elkhartjim, that has been a common thing on Goodyear tires. Goodyear 670 tires were standard for Alfa. We had that problem on our 06 See Ya and it is not alignment. We had ours checked in early 2012 and alignment was fine. Put on 6 new Toyo tires and went to Alaska in the summer of 2012 - a little over 11,000 miles since and the tires still look great. Absolutely no abnormal wear.
  25. Tilldee, We have the 50 amp version of the one you are looking at (it was standard equipment in our coach) and we have never noticed a hum. Our original unit had to be replaced in 2012 after a power pedestal problem in Alaska took it out.
