Rand McNally's Road Atlas contains a page titled "Stay on the Right Side of he Law". In the chart it list State by State Laws on; Speed limits, Studded tires Permitted, Seat Belt Required, Overnight Off-road Parking Trailer Brakes if Weight Over, Breakaway Brakes if Weight over, MAX. LENGTH OF CAR AND TRAILER WITHOUT PERMIT, Chains Required and Flares Required. This might answer some folks questions. Most State have receptacle agreement with other states on compliance to the vehicle's registered State's requirements-laws. Herman

This brings a point I thought of on our last trip. In a lot of large Metropolitan areas you will see "No Truck In left Lane". Now since the last post says "A class A motor Home is not Classified as a car or a truck" does that mean I can drive in the left lane when posted No Trucks? When on a three lane divided highway I always try to stay in the middle lane and on 4 or more lanes I try to stay in the second lane from the right. This way I don't impede vehicles entering or exiting the freeway. On 2 lane divided roads I stay in the right lane. I try to not have every one out there thinking, there is another one of those big buffoons that thinks they own the road. Be safe. Herman

Thanks Kay, Now I will be looking at all power company connections just to check, thanks a lot. Herman

Nick, Have you had the Jeeps alignment checked. Improper toe-in can cause the Jeep to wander which can cause it to push and pull the rear of the coach, aka wandering. Herman

rv grandma, Julie, congratulations on your new coach. Now back to the highway and don't forget to WAVE. Herman

dd69, Do you know how well this product holds up to out side exposure? I have some thing penetrating the exterior walls of my Garage that I would like to seal really well. Herman

SGCampbell, Welcome to the Forum. Tomorrow give Newmar Tech service a call and they can tell you what kind of sealant they used and where you might find it in your area. Herman

Flat Towing 2005 Cadillac Escalade AWD

Jim, I had a Remco Drive Shaft Disconnect on my last Silverado 2 wheel drive and it worked fine. You might contact Remco and see if they have ever made a disconnect for both the front and rear drive shafts. It seems to me if it works for the rear, is should work on the front. It would mean 2 levers to pull rather then 1 to disconnect and reconnect. Herman -
Need Wiring Diagram: 1998 Dodge Road Trek Versatile 190
hermanmullins replied to cascott1960's topic in Electrical
cascott1960, Welcome to the Forum. If you have a volt meter here is a trick to use. Disconnect the positive battery cable from the post. Connect the volt meter between the cable and the battery terminal. When something is draining the battery the meter will show 12+ volts. Begin to pull fuses from the fuse panel. When you pull a fuse and the meter still shows 12+ volts replace the fuse and repeat the same action again and again until the meter drops to "zero". That will let you know where the drain is coming from and what you can do to resolve the drain. Good Luck, hope this helps find your problem. Herman -
I just open the Forum and clicked on "View new Contents" went right to a list of 8 or 9 postings I had not read, this being one. Wayne, it might be a Marine thing. Herman

Rod, Might I suggest that you carry several extra fuel filter. One of each. On a long extended trip into the wilderness you never know if you can relay on the fuel you purchase. Have a great trip, Herman

Peter, It's been years since I overhauled a master cylinder or wheel cylinder, but if I remember correctly the seals had numbers on them. If you have them apart and there are numbers contact, as Rich said, Federal Mogul and or National Seal. If there are no numbers take as closes as possible measurement of the cups and bore size then contact the same folks. Good luck and keep us up on your progress. Herman

Best Holding Tank Chemicals
hermanmullins replied to DALEDEVON@GMAIL.COM's topic in Water and Holding Tanks
Dale, I have on both vent stacks venturies. They swival and are always turned into the wind when moving or parked. This causes a vortex behind the unit drawing the oders out of the tanks. I got them at Camping World. As Brett said if you have the oder in the coach look for the cause. A good spray and vent fans work well, however turn them off before flushing. Herman -
wellsie, As Tom said, many sizes, shapes and configurations. Here is mine. Several of my compartment doors, when unlatched pull out and up. There are two post at the top and a "U" bolt bottom center. Several times on different doors the plunger in the latch broke. The latch pin was made of plastic, When the plunger would brake it would not move. The top of the door would release but not the bottom. The "U" bolt was secured with a 1/4-20 nut on each side. They can be accesed through the top (long arms required) by pulling the top out and reaching down to the nuts. It is not easy but can be done if you don't have access to the compartment from both sides of the coach. If this it the type of latch you have, might I suggest that when you are able to open the door to contact RB Machining/RV Div. You my find their ad in the Product Connection section of the Family Motor Coaching magazine. They make a very reasonable replacement latch with an aluninum plunger. I would replace every compartment door that has that type of latch with the aluminum plunger latch. Hopes this helps, Herman

Leland, On most coaches with tags axles you may, with the tag axle button, raise and or just remove the downward pressure to the tag axle wheels so they will not drag on tight turns. Also some coaches with air bags may both Jacks and Air Leveling. While some will have only one or the other. Either way the best way to level a coach with air bags is as follows. When you a parked where you want to be, DUMP your air bags. After dumping activate either your air leveling or jacks to level your coach. The reason you dump your air first is to lower the coach so when you start your auto leveling neither air bags or jacks will have too far to travel to level your unit. Momma does not like that last step when it is 2 feet off the ground. Hope this helps. Herman

Bill, Did the headlight switch by some chance get turned. That can dim the dash lights all to way to off. Herman
-
Lowell, Do you have any compartment doors open? The doors under your slide, on a Monaco, have lock out switches that will not let the slides operate if they are open. Herman
-
Dennis, Welcome to the Forum. You didn't say what make of coach you have so let me tell you what I did when our step cover would not work properly. We have a 2002 Monaco Dynasty. The step cover is operated by a air cylinder. The cylinder is about 24" long and mounted to the floor in the rear of the cover compartment. The screw that secured the cylinder to the floor had broken. This allowed the cylinder to push the cover out but not retract it. I removed the cylinder, repaired the broken screw with a larger and longer screw through the floor and secured it from underneath. Space to work in is very small and you may use some extreme naval expressions while making the repair, I know I did. Herman

Have several Garmin GPS units. Car, Truck and MH, two have lifetime updates. Each time I update one it takes from 2 to 3 hours. On each I had to purchase 8GB memory cards. After each update I find no changes other then where the speed limit is 75 MPH it will still show 70 and where the limit is 70 it may show 75. I always drive using the MPH on the GPS rather then the speedo. It is more accurate and I can, if I wish, reset it to show miles traveled for checking my MPG. I will always check routes and roads on paper maps, computer satellite and the GPS. What a world of difference. So "I'm making a list and checking it twice to see which is wrong or nice." Herman
-
FYI, I normally travel 2 to 3 mph below the speed limit, 75 = 72/73, 70 = 67/68 and so on. My normal average mpg is 6.7 to 6.8. Followed a friend last week. His highway speed was 60 to 61 all the way. 7.8 MPG, I did the same on the return trip and it was 7.9 over all. Guess where I will be setting the cruise control from now on. I guess the ole statement "Slow down and save" is true.

Wiring A '99 Grand Cherokee To Tow
hermanmullins replied to tjbeebe's topic in Toads-Towed Behind Motorhome
TJ, Welcome to the Forum. I have used diodes on three different vehicles with no problem. The diodes allow power to go to the bulb but not let it feed back through the vehicles circuit. I have never been one to modify lights by drilling holes in plastic. Herman -
Joe, Is the unit connected to any ducts? Sorry I can't be of much help. By any chance can you send some pictures? Herman
