  1. We'll be on the East Coast but a great idea. It would be nice to meet those who throw barbs at me.
  2. My 2008 had a 10 gallon HW tank. When plugged in, which was all the time we stopped, it was on electric. If we needed back to back showers we would turn both the electric and propane on. Heated up the water real fine. We also had the motor-aide and after about 50 miles down the road we had hot water. Consider the on/off switch on the shower-head. Rinse down, shut off shower head. Soap up and then rinse off. Just the small amount of time the shower head is off the water will be heating up and most thermostats are set to high so it will heat up sooner as the water chills. We have never run out of HW. Now with the Aqua-hot 450D we can have continuous HW. There is price to pay with having the Aqua-hot. Space. It takes up a lot of space that cold otherwise be used for storage.
  3. Before we had the MH with the built in GPS we used the Garman RV 760LMT. It worked fine as any GPS. I have also had TomToms in the past and prefer the RV 760LMT (They have a newer version out now.) It is programmable for RV width and height, etc., warns of low overpasses and can be set or turned off for over-speed. If I had to pick a stand alone GPS I would go back with the Garman 760LMT ( or newer model).
  4. Who would teach it! However, vehicle weight is very important, not only for safety reasons but law enforcement can stop and check anytime. See Joe L, that is how you combine the two.
  5. I used the Demco Silent Hitch Pin for 9 years on my 2008 Winni. I'm about to get one for the 2015 although I don't hear a rattle back there. It may not be in stock at Amazon but Demco shold have it. Part # is 5846.
  6. Brett, I'm not saying who started it, but it was somewhere around post #2. Now, with that said, I know Livingston Escapees do a 4 corner weighing. Not sure during the Winter what the schedule is. Other than Oregon, which I know about, are there any other states that leave their scales open? (That anyone knows about?)
  7. Texas registration has to be performed within 90 days of registration, unless you are out of state. You can register on-line and check the box "out-of-state" and then when you return to "in-state" it must be inspected within 3 (maybe 5) days. I cannot find anything on the House approving it. Senate Bill 1588 Lot's of pro's and cons. My thoughts are that you can have a vehicle inspected and when you drive it off the service station a headlight could go out, or the brakes could fail from defective equipment that was not defective at the time of inspection. Inspections only imply that "on that day" everything was as it was supposed to be. Then there is the registration "check-box" if the vehicle is out of state. Guess I could be out of state for a year then check that box again. Wonder what the Livingston residents do. Looking at it from the financial aspect, it is a tax and as such 50,000 vehicles a day get inspected in Texas. At an average for cars of $25 and diesel vehicles $7, that is a lot of tax revenue that will be lost. Also, how are they going to classify RV's. Presently anything at 26,001pounds or more by Federal Law is a Commercial Vehicle. Not don't get your underwear up in a wad, it is Federal Law. The CDL-2 form that we sign to get a Class A or B licence for a vehicle 26,001 or heavier is a Commercial Vehicle. CDL-2 quote: CERTIFICATION "I will operate one or more of the following commercial motor vehicle(s) that exceeds 26,000 lbs GVWR or GCWR and requires a Class A or B license that is exempted by the Texas Commercial Driver License Act." Note: Operate and driver license act are key here. Nothing that states it is not a commercial vehicle. Link to the Form CDL-2 It is definitely going to be interesting to see how this pans out. p.s., the $25 and $7 is what the inspection station gets and then when you register at the tax office they get the other 50%. So a diesel MH still costs $14, in Texas to inspect. Texas - Cost of Vehicle Inspection
  8. Some states leave the scales on like Oregon. That is where I weighed mine when the scale was unattended. Other states I have seen where there were orange cones set at the scale so one would expect they don't want anyone driving over the scales and they have to go around. I did mine in OR because the first time I went over I noticed there were no barriers so it would be possible to run over with just one side of the coach so the next scale we came to I did that. Joe, my GVWR is 45,660 pounds and my GCWR is 60,660 Front GAWR ias 15,660; rear GAWR 30,000 Not a light puppy by any means.
  9. Wow Joe! You are one brave man! Did you take her over the Love's scale? (MH that is.) Oh, DW doesn't read this forum. I understand. -------------------- Joe S, did you stay under your GVWR? Does your state keep they commercial weight scales open when they are not attended?
  10. Our 2008 Winni that we had for 9 years had a basement AC with two compressors. It ran off of 50A, 30A, or 120Vac. On 120Vac only one compressor would run and was handled by the EMS (Energy Management System). In the 9 years we owned the MH we never had a problem with the basement AC. Oh, on 120Vac, don't try to run a vacuum cleaner, or basically anything else. The only time we ran off of 120Vac was when we were loading or unloading here in the driveway. I eventually installed 50A service.
  11. Tammy is easy to work with. I have given her permission to use my stall whenever we are away. She sometimes get people traveling and need short term storage. As Brett stated, get on the waiting list. The worse that can happen is you have to cancel 'cause you found another place. Don't know yet if we will be away in April.
  12. We keep our MH in America's Storage, Dickinson (now Texas City where they are located) Phone: 281-339-5200 and talk to Tammy. They have some outside storage but it may also be possible to get covered storage for that short of a time frame. Other possibilities would be some of the campgrounds in the area where you could spend some time in the MH and then possibly store on their premises until you come back. Upon return you could move into a spot. Look at rvparkreviews.com for CGs near Hobby. Look at Kemah, League City. Dickinson areas as all are within 20-25 miles of Hobby.
  13. I use 303 on the Slide Seal Wipers and also on the Slide Seals. By wiper I am talking about that visible and flexible extrusions. The actual seal is anther piece on the front of the slide and on the back of the slide when it is retracted. I once had the inside seal break away about 4 inches on a corner and I found some sticky mess was on it. Cleaned it, re-glued it and started using 303. Before I had a ladder for the outside I would use the awning rod. Put a cloth through the loop, spray with lubricant and work it up inside and outside the wiper. The difficult seal is the outside leading edge on the top. Again with a ladder it can be swabbed. Unfortunately I don't have a schedule and do it once in a while when I'm thinking about it. Hmmm! You made me think.
  14. Paz, I have a Mac Book Pro and I have never had a problem connecting to any unsecured WiFi. Here is an article from Apple Support - WiFi
  15. When I had a blow out in CA I used Pacific Tire. The one I dealt with was in WA and they were great. They were also cheaper than any other place for the Michelin replacement.
  16. I had a 2007 Saturn VUE and I opted for the separate light system. Drill additional hole inside tail light assembly and put the holder/bulb in the new opening. I did have Smitty's RV and Welding in Houston, TX do it for me. Great shop.
  17. I'll call WB when we get home. We are leaving today. Cutting the trip short.
  18. Price was right. Besides, from what I have been reading over the last 10 years just about every Mfg has their problems. I'd never buy new though. Nope, no little buttons. Everything flush and no screws.
  19. Or, what's life compared to $1,100 or $1,100 compared to life.
  20. Again, no analysis has been done on break away systems but my TOAD is capable of stopping itself should something happen and it come loose from the hitch. Without a TOAD braking system there is potential there for a severe accident. I have a supplemental air system. I don't know how the inertia systems would work in that situations, Regarding exhaust brakes, I leave mine on all the time except sometimes in light city driving of 30 mph or less I will shut it off to prevent shellacking. Even those areas that have signs stating "No exhaust" brakes or other supplemental braking. I know for a fact that I will stop faster with the exhaust brake on. It is the one time I will break a city ordnance.
